Doctor Who *Spoilers Abound! We've lost Containment*

Also semi confirmed theory for the christmas special:

Spoiler:

There's a really good chance that the theory that David Bradley will be appearing as the first Doctor is true :O. Some set photos have apparently leaked which apparently confirm this.

Doctor Falls spoilers:

Spoiler:

That finale was a set of good parts that didn't quite gel for me. I wanted a bit more from the Master / Missy bit - seeing John Simm regenerate into MIssy would have capped it for me I think. I was floored by the cute girl from episode one coming back, but reading up on it makes it seem less of an ass pull, and that episode set up rules that were followed consistently here.

There's a bit of overlap with Clara in the last series here - Moff's having it both ways with Bill both dying and not dying which kills some of the pathos of the death, though riding off into the sunset with her girl at least feels less unfair than Bill being fridged as a cyberman. I can see why they do it without feeling satisfied by it, I guess.

Ultimately I feel that Bill deserved a few more series, and it's a shame she won't get them.

Spoiler heavy take from a mate of mine

Bill

was distracted by house guests... going to watch shortly. crossing all of the fingers.

Ok, yeah, that was pretty good.

Spoiler:

Relieved they resolved Bill's story in a non-unpleasant way (that was suitably telegraphed in past episodes, and wasn't a complete deus ex machina...ish. ). That was always going to be my biggest sticking point. And the door is left open for her to show up again later should they want to make it work somehow, which is great.

Disappointed Missy didn't get her big redemption scene...Although, on thinking about it, she kinda did, it's just the Doctor didn't get to see it. What was it he said - doing the right thing when there's no one around to witness it? I have to assume that was deliberate, right?

Yay! Was right about David Bradley showing up. Didn't quite expect it to be at the end of THIS episode though. Cool!

Hope someone remembers to go back for Nardol and the kids :O !

Looking forward to my Lady Doctor at Xmas ...I mean, the number of times Gender comes up over the last few episodes it MUST be fairly likely, right? Either that or they are the biggest, meanest teases of all time.

My thoughts:

Spoiler:

After as much time as they spent on the Doctor/Missy relationship and its growth potential in the last few episodes, i was pretty sad that they only really had the two scenes together. I had high hopes for the Doctor regeneration not coming from his own wounds, but from saving Missy (who was selflessly saving Bill if i could really have everything line up perfectly).

And what did she put in his hand? Did that ever pay off?

That said, i'm really glad that they spent so much time with Bill, and specifically visually found a way to both let her act while also never letting the audience forget that she's in the suit. She has been fantastic this entire run and i wouldn't be at all sad if next season was The Doctor taking a break to regenerate while she went around the universe with companion Heather, calling herself Doctor Who.

Spoiler:

There's no way Missy is his next regeneration. It would mean they would have to use an earlier incarnation of the Master the next time they inevitably use the character, and a villain fighting the resentment of knowing they'll eventually be won over by their do-gooding foil is too good a story hook to pass up.

Ruhk:

Spoiler:

I don't know about that. I'm used to Who ignoring continuity as and when they feel like it. They don't even bother retconning most times. They could have any or all Masters back at any time and not give a monkey's except wobbling their fingers and saying "Timey Wimey Wibbly Wobbly".

For example, last night's episode already directly contradicts several earlier episodes about the origin planet of the Cybermen, since some of the planets the Doctor yells out when he's killing them at the end are meant to be the same planet.

Spoiler:

Second time Capaldi's companions "die" only to be taken away by an invincible girl on adventures in space. The creative juices must have been running short this season

Spoiler:

Like The Doctor said, put enough people together anywhere in a crap situation and eventually this happens. They try to upgrade themselves out of the problem and go too far too fast.

Spoiler:

Loved the episode. I was curious to see if they'd bring it all together, and for me they did. Of course there were the typical timey wimey hand waving, but I've grown to expect that

Was surprised by the water girl's reappearance. Didn't see that coming at all.

Was sad Missy didn't get to help the doctor. However, I liked how they did the resolution.

Nardole is great. One of my favorite companions. Plus, I feel like there's a deeper mystery there, or maybe just I've forgot some things.

I'm gonna miss Bill. I hope she's back, but I assume she won't. At least it's another positive end if she doesn't.

Finally got around to watching both episodes, after being on vacation for episode 11, and having a house guest this weekend.

Spoiler:

It was a very Moffat plot, even down to bringing back dangling plot elements from the beginning of the season, not to mention the whole dead/not-dead magical girl wandering the universe arc at the end.

I am very sorry to see the last of Bill, but I can hope that Chibnall will have some ideas for her. And there's plenty of space for Big Finish to pull in Mackie and Capaldi for some audio adventures.

I suspect it was

the masters dematerialisation circuit

Dr Who Theme mixed with Blondie. :O

You're welcome, ears.

Holy hell! Thanks for that, Pyxi!

I only regret that I have one like to give.

Also, I read a wild theory in the comments for io9's recap of "The Doctor Falls:"

Spoiler:

...the Doctor's already regenerated and still looks like 12 due to something similar to how Bill still saw herself as Bill instead of a Cyberman. I swear something looked off about 12's hands towards the end and I remembered the first look of 12 we got in "Day of the Doctor" was his hand shortly before the attack eyebrows.

Top middle picture has the wrong caption.

Martha is anything but a good character.

I will forever be unfairly baised 'cause she's a local 'Invernesian' and went to a high school where my mum works.

...and I don't remember having much of a problem with Martha?

That said, I might accept Sally Sparrow as a possible wildcard alternative.

Where's the dislike button. That is pretty mean to Jenna Coleman. She was great at doing what she was asked to do. The problem wasn't with her but the writing. They didn't evolve her character- they just switched it from season to season. She was the impossible girl, until she wasn't. Then she was a 'normal' companion. Then she was the companion who thought she could be the doctor (but she couldn't [but she could]).

She did what they asked her to and she did it well. The writing just switched on a dime and constantly had to have its cake and eat it too.

I liked her. The only companion I didn't like was Amy Pond.

eh, Coleman was ok, but I see it more as a critique of the characters' writers than the actors specifically. (excluding my previously stated "local-woman does good" bias )

Agree. The text says character not actor.

A number of things (n), where n divided by the time since first watching Martha's season approaches zero at an exponential rate.

I was being a bit ridiculous in my approach, but what I was going for was essentially, I only love Martha more as time goes on.
