He did start in comedies, didn't he?

Sorrrrrt of? Like ccesarano said, the movies he started in weren't so much comedies as they were heist movies with some comedic elements. It really was, for me, the Crank movies as well where I really began to enjoy his work.

If you wanna see his comedic chops on full blast, though, watch Spy. OMG he is so amazing in that.

I already watched that and, yes, he's great in that.
I haven't watched Snatch and Lock Stock in quite a while, but I did always thought of them as comedies.

By the way, I started re-watching the F&F series from the beginning.
Oh boy, the first movie doesn't hold up. Cheesy lines, iffy acting and the action scenes aren't nothing much.
Do you guys remember that two guys from Vin Diesel's family have gone AWOL (one of them was friends with Vin since the 3rd grade!).

I remember Jason Statham first in The One, but for me, his true debut was in the Transporter series which came out 4 years before Crank started up.

Yeah, I thought The Transporter was his action lead debut.

The concept of Crank seems like it would have been a perfect video game.

Ted Levine put in a performance that was way above what that movie deserved.

I know the Transporter came out before Crank, but I saw Crank first.

My buddy and I were actually laughing as we walked out of the theater that the only original member of Dom's "family" remaining is Letty.

Welp, I was wrong. Checked IMDB and one of them appears in Fast Five. I don't remember him at all.

Saw 2 Fast 2 Furious.
This is probably one of the dumbest, if not the dumbest, movie in the series, but, unexpectedly, more fun than the first. Much better action set pieces. This movie also seems to be the spark for the franchise going all down in the fun stupidity route.
Paul Walker manages to do an even worse acting job. He just looks and sounds ridiculous.
I liked Roman, but he seems different in the later movies (he's tough in 2F2F, but a scaredy-cat in the rest).
The rest of the cast is just... there.

As an aside: I got real tired of the over abundance of "bru" and "cuz". It wouldn't even be a fun drinking game.

Yeah it's the guy Vince from the first one. He still doesn't like Brian much.

Is 5 the Brazil one? Think he's hiding out down there too, still being a wanted criminal in the US.

They are all pretty stupid but fun.

Yeah, it's the Brazil one or, how I like to call it, The Vault Movie.

I think it is the one with the cars in it.

Or as some of us call it, The Best One.

That's my other alternative subtitle.

They're going through a subtle transition to tanks and submarines.

The next one will have space shuttles. I'm calling it.

I think the Saints Row route is the way they should go.

You mean like President?

Just saw it. A step down from the high of 7, but not the worst. Little Nobody isn't a patch on Brian, but thanks for bringing the Subarus. I cannot believe I forgot Helen Mirren was in this movie, that was a genuine surprise. But I can't forgive

Spoiler:

killing Elena. I spent the whole movie up to the point wondering what she was up to, since we keep losing the badass women in this franchise but can't get rid of Letty. And then they take Elena away too.

That is some bullsh*t. Not even Jason Statham's airplane fight can make up for that. Also, he killed Han, Dom, don't forget about that.

Saw the last one this weekend.
It was alright, although Statham becoming part of the group seems really, really odd. Talking about being odd, the best action scenes didn't involve cars.

By this time, I'd be okay with them getting rid of all characters, except the Rock and Statham. I like their bickering.

If someone murders your best bud it is only natural that the murderer becomes your best bud. This is pretty much true for all relationships. You kill someone's roommate you become their roommate. Kill their dog you become their dog, if you don't you are just a bad person.

You guys there is never ANYTHING wrong with more Statham. Ever.

By all reports, there was supposed to be an after-credits scene with Statham and The Rock bickering while beating each other up that was being used to possibly set up a separate series of movies with the two. However, because Diesel has a real problem with The Rock (due to a feud/disagreement while filming), he canned the clip.

If only someone had told Theon Greyjoy. Then John Wick would have been a very different movie.

I read that that spinoff is still happening, though.

The Rock should kill the Big Trouble in Little China remake and film the Statham movie instead.

Wasn't that feud a marketing thing?

I doubt these movies need that type of marketing at this point.

Finally saw this yesterday. I missed it because of all the family stuff earlier in the year.

I was really shocked at how good it was. I love this series, but I was really worried that I wouldn't be into this post-Paul Walker. Thoughts.

Spoiler:

Jason Statham injected new blood into the series. The scene with the baby was incredible, as was the fight in the prison. I'm all in. Even though I didn't 100% buy the rehabilitation of Deckard Shaw initially, by the end they'd done enough and I was invested in the idea enough that I was okay with it.

I would say that Shaw needs to do more to be someone that shows up to cookouts with "Familia", but he saved his son, so that's probably enough.

I didn't like Buster 2.0. Really lame character and I don't necessarily buy it. I guess if they needed a white-guy-who-loves-import-cars character for the team they had to start with someone with military experience. It would have been too much to fly in Lucas Black from Tokyo to be part of their military operation and just assume he'd catch up with the rest of the team.

The casualness of that Berlin heist amused me. They're basically GI Joe now. So if you add someone that person has to have some plausible transition from street racer to special missions team. But man I didn't like Little Nobody.

I think in order for the full redemption of Shaw to take place we need to find out Han is still alive. Maybe that's coming.

Overall I was really pleased and glad I waited until I was in the headspace to really enjoy it for all the silly fun it is.

Agree with everything you said in the spoiler. Especially:

Spoiler:

Statham saving the baby. Can I get a whole movie of this please? His facial expressions ALONE.
He needs to do more comedy.

Incidentally, he's hilarious in Spy. Half of his lines in this movie made me think he was playing the exact same character and I was okay with that.

Spoiler:

Yeah, Statham has some serious comedy chops, and he should get the opportunity to flex them more often.

Spoiler:

Oh god, I love him in Spy so, so, so much. As great as that movie is all around, he really made it for me.

Spoiler:

My fiancee, who is a music teacher, almost died laughing at the "take up piano at a late age" line.

Same here.

Spoiler:

Not because I'm a piano teacher, but because my mom played. And I quit piano when I was in 4th grade. One of my biggest life regrets. Frequently I go to stores like Costco and eye the electric pianos and wonder if it's possible to pick it up again. I've been thinking about starting again since I was in my late 20s.
