NFL 2017 Post-Draft Offseason

Eric Decker to the Titans, which seems perfect.

Time to fire up those Fleaflicker leagues, eh, Legion?

Fantasy thread will go up the Thursday before the season starts.

I get back from a business trip at the end of June. Start of July, it's time to get fantasy rolling. Oh god why did I agree to take over?

Derek Carr says deal with Raiders is done.

Welp, there goes my fantasy of a bitter contract dispute leading to his trade to San Francisco/Jacksonville/LA Kings/Back to Fresno State I don't care just somewhere I can cheer for him.

Cripes, he's now the highest paid player in the league.

Until the next franchise QB signs his new deal.

It sounds like Carr's deal is basically Andrew Luck's plus a small percentage, not something that's going to move the needle further.

Carr's deal is the big one right up until Winston and Mariota come along for their next deal. I guess there's a chance Cousins or Stafford wind up with the Next Big Contract as well, depending on how things go.

Especially if Cousins hits the market. That will add a premium to his deal, which could move things further.

But besides them, Matt Ryan. His last contractual year is 2019, while Winston and Mariota have 2020 option years that will unquestionably be exercised barring meltdown.

My prediction is that Cousins will approach but not exceed Carr/Luck after he has a good but not earth-shattering 2017, and Ryan will temporarily set a small bump over Carr's mark before whichever of the Winston/Mariota pairing emerges as most elite sets the new benchmark.

Which will stand until Blake Bortles becomes the next QB who suddenly figures it all out in his 30s and, now completely hairless, smashes the market with a blockbuster deal that moves the Jaguars finally down to the halfway mark of the available cap space list.

Excellent points; seems like you've finally figured this QB evaluation thing out.

Uhhhhh . . .

Seems appropos that Legion is running the fantasy football league this year, no?

See the problem with Bortles is that the hair is holding him back. He keeps fighting the hair loss, which is why he struggles. When he finally gives up and lets it all go, he'll discover that the hair was a parasite his body was trying to get rid of, and now free from its shackles, will finally throw passes towards receivers' hands instead of their feet.

Considering his accuracy, wouldn't it just makes more sense to tell him to aim for receivers' feet, which probably gives him a decent chance of hitting then right in the hands? It's like the Stopped Clock theory of QB accuracy.

They tried that, but he just started hitting linebackers' feet instead. The hair parasite is tricky like that.

Linebackers, yes, but not in their feet.

That was clearly Yeldon's fault. Every coach says, if it hits you in the feet, you better catch it.

All I can say is it is a damn tragedy that Josh "King of Unintentional Football Comedy" McCown and Blake "Apparently the New King of Unintentional Football Comedy" Bortles have never been on the same team.

Even better (sadder?)... that they have never started against each other.

You'll likely get your wish. Jags play the Jets in Week 4.

I dub that game Gagnarok, as it will be the twilight of the Football Gods.

Chiefs are looking for a GM after firing Dorsey.

‘It caught everybody off guard:’ Chiefs fire GM John Dorsey, extend coach Andy Reid

Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt maintained for months he was pleased with the job done by coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey the last four years, and that he would discuss contract extensions with the two this summer.

The Chiefs announced Thursday afternoon that Reid signed an extension, but Dorsey is no longer with the team, effective immediately.

“I notified John that we would not be extending his contract beyond the 2017 season, and after consideration, we felt it was in his best interests and the best interests of the team to part ways now,” Hunt said in a release announcing Dorsey’s departure, which was sent about a half-hour after the Chiefs announced Reid’s contract extension. The original five-year contracts for Reid and Dorsey were set to expire after this season.

“Shocked,” one NFL decision-maker told The Star of the decision. “Top-to-bottom best roster in the league.”

The move also generated internal surprise, according to sources, as the news interrupted the vacations of multiple members of the Chiefs front office during the only down period of the football season.

“It caught everybody off guard,” a source with knowledge of the matter said. “Nobody saw it coming. Nobody knows (what happened) because everybody is out of the building.”

The source said another primary reason for the surprise was that the Chiefs fired Dorsey with a year left on his contract and have to pay him for this season.

“It was no secret John was looking for a contract extension,” the source said. “Now you’re paying him to sit at home.”

I haven't seen it commented on yet, but I wonder if Hunt was looking to repair damage done by the way Dorsy released both Maclin and Charles. Both moves made sense, but the manner in which they were done did not sit well with Chiefs fans. Cutting Maclin via a voice mail message was particularly galling.

New Chiefs GM can only mean it's time to start the pipeline again. Give the Niners and Shanahan a year to boost Brian Hoyer's stock, and get those 2018 picks ready to deal.

Does anyone with some free time want to make a Downfall video to properly capture Legion's attitude towards the future of the 49ers and Jaguars?

This wasn't done already years ago?

As confident as I am in the coming resurrection for the Bork, I am even more confident that you all would love playing Rainbow Six: Siege. It's on sale in the Steam summer sale.

I missed that part of this saga yesterday.

Is Andy Reid the defacto GM now?

Too bad they let Chris Ballard get away.

My first thought was that there was no "de facto" to it. He was GM in Philly after all. But apparently the Chiefs are going to replace Dorsey.

They currently have an odd arrangement where they have co-heads of player personnel: Mike Borgonzi and Brett Veach. I'd guess that kind of titling was done to hang onto guys they didn't want to lose, and that one of those will be an internal promotion to take the GM job. Veach was a strong candidate for the Bills GM job that went to Brandon Beane - Shady McCoy was even banging the drum for him to get the Buffalo job, having been together in Philly.

They should hire Ryan Grigson.

Wouldn't that be Godderdamnerung?

The Rams have have really outdone themselves for the upcoming season. New uniforms:

When the Rams originally announced the changes, the new look was unveiled in a series of illustrations. It wasn't until this week that fans actually got to see what the uniforms would look like on an actual player, and let's just say things didn't go well when the team unveiled the new look.

Here's a look at Connor Barwin modeling the uniform in a Facebook post that the Rams shared on Flag Day.

IMAGE(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DCT2yRkXgAAMGZt.jpg)

After the picture was posted on Facebook, the negative reaction was almost immediate.

"I'm sorry but the new temporary uniforms look ridiculous," one fan wrote. "The helmet, jersey, and pants are all completely different from each other. The Rams should have just stuck with the old unis until the complete redesign when the new stadium opens."

That guy's opinion seemed to be the general sentiment of every fan on the Rams' Facebook page.

"These uniforms are horrible," another fan wrote. "They look like the freshman football team where everything is hand me downs and nothing matches."

Another fan said that it looks like a toddler handled the redesign.

"This uniform concept looks like it was thrown together by a pre-schooler," the fan wrote.
Another fan simply wrote, "Trash."

I'm assuming he was referring to the uniforms and not the way the team played last year.

The reason the uniform is kind of weird looking this year is because the Rams are in the process are in a complete overhaul. Unfortunately though, they're not allowed to modify for their jersey top this year due to NFL rules. The team is hoping to unveil a new jersey top when the Rams' new stadium opens in 2020, which means Rams fans could be staring at uniforms they hate for the next three seasons (The team had originally planned to unveil the new uniform tops in 2019 when the new stadium was originally slated to open, but now, they'll likely delay the new look since the new stadium has been delayed).

OK, so that looks unquestionably horrible.

If the helmet means that the complete uniform redesign is going to go full-on 1960s Fearsome Foursome Rams white-and-blue, then I am overwhelmingly in favor of it.

IMAGE(http://static.nfl.com/static/content/public/video/2012/10/04/0ap2000000069044_video_cp.jpg)

I really don't understand half-assing it.

Actually, I might. It's not a great excuse, but I think I know the reason for changing the helmet now. The NFL does not allow you to change helmet designs for alternate jersey games. (Throwback jersey games, yes, but alternate home jerserys, no). $5 says some version of their new jersey design is going to become their alternate home uniform, and their helmet will match with that. So between throwback games and alternate home jersey games, they will be able to wear white-and-blue multiple times at home this year.

Is that a good reason to make the team look awful the rest of the time? No, of course not. It looks cheap. And not in the amazing bargain way, like Rainbow Six: Siege at 40% off. Which it is right now in the Steam summer sale.
