What the everyone's guess on price? Looks like the most popular answers re $399, $449, and $499. I have to believe that $399 is their best option, but that might not be realistic.

I think that's best case scenario.. though I'd guess that even that price will make the internet angry... $299 would be the price that makes the internet happy.

If they're dropping the price of the S to $199, then $299 is realistic. No way it's higher than $399.

Edit: Looks like the S price drop is temporary and only on certain bundles.

I don't think $299 is realistic. It's a premium product and should be priced accordingly. I think the best we can realistically hope for is matching the PS4 Pro

According to Geoff Keighley, Scorpio will be $499. I'm guessing MS leaked to him to avoid a total meltdown when the announce.

Won't work.

I've assumed all along that $499 was the peice, but did kind of start hoping the $399 was real. I think $399 would make the splash MS wants, but I guess that is not realistic.

Spencer has always said it was going to be priced as a premium console and that the One S would remain their best seller.

I'm in, but I'm not expecting near the positivity coming out of the pressers now.

$499 as the entry SKU is a disaster.. I'm not sure Microsoft recovers if that is the case.. All that will happen is that MS will piss off those that do jump in early after the price is dropped $100 months later.

MS will end up pushing the message that why buy Scorpio when you can buy a PS4 Pro AND a Switch for just a bit more and get a fantastic catalog of games to choose from.

They better hope those games blow us the f*ck away. I'm picking lip my 4K TV today, so I'm in. But I don't expect $499 to bring along nearly as many. In particular, it's not going to get 360 users that moved to PS4 to jump back. I think $399, with a full library and 360 BC gets a lot of them back and lets Microsoft head into the next gen with momentum.

They would be able to match the PS5 with an updated Scorpio and not need all the R&D and launch expense. And unless Sony embraces the generationless console, MS would have a monumentally better library of games at that time to entice shoppers.

But this is going to put the brakes on t he momentum they have built over the last several weeks.

Woof. The idea of mid-generation hardware upgrades is a good idea for a variety of reasons, but both Sony and Microsoft seem hell bent on doing it all wrong.

Agreed. At least I can understand why Microsoft wants to do this. I don't understand the PS4 Pro's existence, at all. But at $499, I can't necessarily explain Scorpio's existence either.

And I'm a sucker that will buy day one.

I'm still thinking Scorpio is less a mid-gen upgrade and more the first salvo for the next generation (ignoring Switch for obvious reasons here). MS absolutely needs to do a "reset" right now and pitching Scorpio as a new system is going to be part of that. I expect that's part of why the leaked price tag is so high too.

At least the Scorpio may give gamers what they want, but at a price higher than we'd prefer. The PS4Pro is, imho, a product without a purpose. Honestly, I think it was a cynical move by Sony.

I think $399 is the right price for Scorpio, from an adoption perspective. That said, I'd much sooner buy one for $500 than a PS4Pro even if it were $300.

500 is a dealbreaker for me, considering that I have to buy a tv to use it. Hope that Knightly is wrong.

If Microsoft and Sony have messed up anything worse than everything else, it's this. More than price, more than availability, they've screwed up the messaging around TVs. They've emphasized 4K gaming strongly and consistently, but they've failed to communicate that there can be benefits for people on boring old HDTV's, too. And there can be! Throwing that kind of grunt at 1080p can make some beautiful games. Instead, both companies have left people with the impression that if they don't have the right kind of fancy new TV, they shouldn't even bother.

Agreed. When so many current Xbox One and PS4 games run at sub-1080P renders and low res textures you would think they would make more effort to try and sell to all those sitting on 1080P sets. Not to mention 60fps!! Lol

I've done my part by tweeting Phil Spencer that 1080p 60fps is way more important than 4k.

I'm planning on Scorpio, but not planning on 4k for a long time.

I hope they can afford to sacrifice the starting loss of pricing it at $399 to stay on the Console business.... Sony will make a price cut on the PS4pro with a big announcement tomorrow to steal the MS press conference of today.... so they at least got to start even.... if they go $350 they'll knock it out of the park, and if they start at $449 or over... they are out of business...

I'm probably still in day 1 but this gives me a bit of pause, especially if there is not software to justify it. The Sony exclusives lineup is really kicking Microsofts butt and this will be an important E3 if MS hopes to regain any momentum. If they launch Scorpio at that price without compelling software......

Well it won't be original lauch level of disaster but it will make me wonder what their strategy is besides boasting about dem teraflops.

I have been thinking $499 ever since the official reveal several weeks ago. They were very deliberate in pointing out ahead of time that Scorpio is a premium device and will be priced accordingly. $399 just doesn't seem realistic for the included hardware unless Microsoft is willing to take a huge loss on each unit sold. I'm not convinced they are.

I guess we'll find out in an hour!

Sony needs to either phase out the original PS4 so that they only sell the Pro, or they need to quietly shelve the Pro and let Microsoft kill that whole upgraded console idea off. Sony's messaging with the Pro has been terrible, as has their execution.

4K! Please clap.
The focus on resolution is so silly. Especially since the consoles are not really strong enough to run games efficiently at 4K anyway.

ugh...that guy's sh*t eating grin always bugs me. dunno why.

Wide Colour Gamut! For Reals!

"Xbox One X."

Well. At least it's a better name than "Scorpio."

could they not just, like, put a PDF of the specs online or something...would be a great deal less boring for the rest of us.

I'll say this for Microsoft so far... it's had a woman in it's initial teaser reel thing and now a woman driver in their car game. 10 points for Slytherine.

AND two professional women drivers demoing the game. Damn, microsoft. way to learn from your past mistakes :O

Liquid cooling. At least that is nice.

But the numbers talk does not fit an E3 press conference. People who like that (which I kinda do in the right context) will probably rather read an article reviewing the performance anyway.

What I really wonder going into MS conference is if they will keep with their strategy of all Xbox games also releasing on PC. I sure hope so.
It is a super consumer-friendly strategy, which I can only admire them for. On the other hand, the only thing that could get me to buy an Xbox, would be if they abandoned it.
It is difficult to walk the balance between being good for consumers and getting their money

Edit: Look its a car-game! Not to be outdone by EA.

"This car has never been seen outside the walls of Porsche, and is unveiled tonight for the first time."

*cough* or just get it on windows 10 *cough*

oh! new Metro game!

non-radiated surface area to explore! Nice.

Showing actual gameplay. Good job.
Sure looks pretty.

they never said exclusive either, so that hopefully means Steam as well as their terrible store (and PS4)
