DC Catch-All [Spoiler Zone]

We loved it. I especially dug the social commentaries that were layered under the main story.

The degenerate in me thought that:

Spoiler:

Diana was probably right about not needing a man for "pleasures". I commented to my wife that Steve must not have gotten her that excited because if he had, she might well have ripped his junk off.

We enjoyed it -- easily a top 10 superhero movie. My son, though, said he was bothered by the inconsistencies. One scene she would have sword and shield, then she wouldn't, and then she would. I did not notice this -- was he imagining it?

I think he was talking about the final fight.

Hmm I don't remember that.

But what did you think of the movie?

I will be seeing it again so I will watch for it but in the last fight Hades destroyed the sword. I can't imagine them not being more careful with consistently than to put it back in after that.

You mean Ares? Somebody needs to bone up on their mythology.

Saw it with my roommates. I enjoyed it overall, particularly the music. The main theme is my favorite with its update, but also I just love me some awesome cello.

I LOVED it. LOVED.

My favorite thing about the movie is how earnest and forthright it is. It's a great antidote to the grimdark of Zack Snyder's DC movies. It's also like an anti-Deadpool. Don't get me wrong, I love me some snarky movies. I love some sharp, quippy dialogue, but sometimes it's nice to watch a movie that is what it is. I think part of that feeling is Diana's character, and part of it is the historical setting. For me it all just adds up to a very pleasant just-over-two hours.

I have to somewhat agree with complaints I've seen about minor characters not being very well fleshed out. The thing is, Diana's character (and Gal Gadot's performance, for that matter) is such a force of nature that no other characters could possibly keep up. So while it might have been nice to give the sidekicks a bit more presence, I think the contrast works in the movie's favor.

Visually it is spectacular - as a superhero movie should be, I suppose. I love the way the story unfolds. The pacing is fantastic. Action sequences don't go on forever as in some superhero movies, and the story sequences and character moments never stall the pace.

If I have one complaint in the movie, it is that one fight scene in the middle of the movie seems excessively and obviously CGI. Sort of uncanny valley stunt work. It is a brief sequence, though. Most of the action, however CGI-heavy it gets (and it does get very CGI in several places), works spectacularly well.

Highly recommended. And see it on a large format screen with a good sound system if you can. Well worth it.

Was this intentional? Being in WWI helps sell the conflict for Diana's beliefs and worldview. I mean if this were WWII like in the original that would mean Nazis. Especially in media, Nazis = evil dudes-sometimes cartoonishly so, it's like a shortcut. The audience wouldn't need to consider if Ares is corrupting anybody or if the conflict was driven by mankind itself.

Of course even my Mom thought it was WWII for half the movie due to not consuming pre-release media and being familiar with her origins. (I just looked at their technology.)

Watched the first episode of Supergirl tonight, but that did nothing for the hype. It's great to see lots of women talking to each other about themselves and their problems and their aspirations, but the special effects were lacking and the fight scenes had all the kineticism and oomph of a Captain Picard fistfight.

It gets better.

The Amazons except Diana also looked a little silly and cheap in their costuming,

Say what? Costuming was great, hardened leather seems appropriate. It's usually the first gripe I have about any superhero movie.

Plus WWI fit in with the themes. WWI was the first "modern" war. As Dan Carlin points out, the French military at the start of the war looks very reminiscent of Napoleon-era militaries. At the end of the war the militaries of the world look like modern soldiers.

So Diana and mankind in general are faced with new and devastating forms of warfare on scale never before seen. A lot of the movie's undercurrents are about the adjustment to this new, deadlier world.

As someone who hated the tone of the Superman and SvB movies in this series, I loved Wonder Woman. It was a great movie and Gal Gadot did an amazing job in it. I am now on board for Justice league.

Somehow in the hunt for a WW thread I missed the DC Catch-All. Link to my experience with seeing WW.

I saw it last night again and aside from putting Ares in place of Hades they didn't have any inconsistencies I saw.

In the final battle she didn't have the shield at all and after Ares destroyed the sword it never appeared again.

In the first trench battle she did have both and used them at different times but not at others but they were on her costume even if she wasn't using them.

Thank you for checking. I'll let my son know he's hallucinating.

I'd love to know the deal with the sword in BvS then. Was it reforged? Was it a recreation?

Replica swords. Very popular.

Only $23! She probably has 10 of them in a cabinet in case one breaks on a mission.

That was a different sword.

Just watched the movie last night. I liked it, wouldn't say it was great. Casting was the best part. Wonder Woman was great. The CGI was really bad at parts. The lasso was cool but relied on to much cgi or the cgi just wasn't good on some scenes. I thought ghost rider's chain was done much better in agents of shield.

I think what keeps it from being a great movie for movie is that the villain isn't all that fleshed out. We get some flavor for him towards the end but it isn't enough. Contrast this with animated Wonder Woman War which had the same villain but he was much more fleshed out. In that he was in it from the beginning to end not just a tagged on to the end. I hope they can do better in the next movie but I'm not sure which villain they can pullout since Wonder Woman doesn't have a real nemesis.

I thought they might have made a mistake at the end of the movie. They show her in a office with a bunch of stuff making it seem like she has been active since WW1. If that was the case Superman and Batman should have known who she was. Maybe she was working in secret though.

One thing they really nailed was the look of the movie. Every setting London, the island, the war zone, were all great. Also Wonder Woman and the amazons outfits were great.

I'll probably watch it again. I missed part of the middle-end of the fight that I want to see.

They show her in a office with a bunch of stuff making it seem like she has been active since WW1.

I think that was related to her job. I can't remember exactly what the narration said but I feel she decided to learn more about mankind and their history and at this point she is a curator at the Louvre.

Got our tickets for Friday.

Was at Old Navy the other day and looking at the superhero t-shirts, they don't have a Wonder Woman shirt for men. So weird.

Also their Teen Titans t-shirt for boys omits Raven and Starfire. Really weird, huh.

Guess they just forgot.

Probably sold out.

I need a good wonder woman t shirt.

Baron said "good". I could go to the mall and have a comparable shirt printed. But you can't get an Old Navy Collectables heather t-shirt with faded logo, like you can for The Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, Punisher, Superman, Captain America...

I was thrilled the other day to discover that Target has graphic tees for men with Disney Princesses on them.

Sadly, no female super heroes except for Black Widow and Elektra in the background of a generic Marvel hero shirt.
