Friday the 13th: The Game Catch-All

I picked this up yesterday after watching some streams. Basically, it is asymmetrical pvp, with a a single killer (Jason from the Friday 13th movies) and 7 or 8 Camp Crystal Lake counselors The counselors have to coordinate to survive and escape while Jason uses his powers to hunt down and murder them. I am having a blast with it. It feels like campy 80s horror.

Voice chat is a huge part of the game, which in a public quick match can be good and bad. If people don't talk or participate, it can get difficult to coordinate and complete tasks. If you end up with a good group, the results can be hilarious. I negotiated with Jason in one match by telling him I'd take him with me when I got the car fixed. He liked the interaction and left to chase other counselors for a while. Jason has a set of brutal killing moves that he unlocks. There are also different versions of Jason to play

Asymmetrical Horror PvP is one of my favorite genres, but it can be difficult to balance properly and make fun for everyone. This game really hits the sweet spot. I have several hundred hours in Dead By Daylight and while I enjoyed that game a lot, it never had the same balanced feeling that this game does. I have fond memories of playing the Hidden with GWJers back in the day. This game screams out for a GWJ group. If anyone picks it up and wants to play, hit me up on Steam.

I've been watching this on streams too, most of whom are playing in their own group who seem to have a rapport and it looks like a tonne of dumb fun, especially to someone growing up watching Friday the 13th as my favourite of the slew of 80s horror movie franchises. Even a lot of the game mechanics, particularly Jasons powers ring very true to the lore of Friday the 13th.

On the fence on buying due to a bunch of reasons, mainly being time poor and having little ones around who wake at the drop of a hat and who I cant risk witnessing any of the gameplay. I'd be mainly playing with randoms which I dont mind the idea of at all (cant really schedule sessions with life the way it is at the moment), but I have a strong feeling this game wont have long legs, so its either get in now for a month or three of smashing faces into trees or miss out on the best of it (could be wrong here though).

But hearing the streams, many of which people partially role play awful stereotype characters (in the best way) and all the laughing and screaming does seem very appealing, even though I've been burned on streams making a game look far more fun than it actually is (FF15 was this for me).

I watched a few streams. It looks crazy good fun. I'm not sure where I'd be fitting it in, though. I have reluctantly passed on it, for now.

Oh this is based on the movies. I was hoping it was based on the tv series.

I've been looking at this for a while. It seems like a ton of fun, but I don't have a dedicated group to play with and I'm not so interested in playing with randos. If there was a GWJer group on Ps4, I might pick it up!

Seems like fun, but buggy. Fun can't be patched in, but bugs can be patched out.

So my buddy wound up getting this free. Pre-ordered but didn't like what he was seeing so he tried to cancel the pre-order. They said no, so he said screw you and canceled it through his credit card company. But they sent him a code anyway. He tried to do the good thing and contacted customer support to let them know he didn't pay for it and they said "Eh, enjoy."

Since we're a 'family' I downloaded it and tried to play...couldn't connect at the login screen, it took 5 tries. Couldn't buy or equip perks, took a few tries and a load of time to even connect to a game and even then it was pretty laggy with lots of high pings. BUT, I played about 5 matches just now and it seemed fine, it's late so maybe the servers aren't being strained anymore.

It needs patched, pretty severely. But what's there is pretty fun! Jason is so over powered, but that's sorta the point? Escaping is rare but not impossible.

Some tips: X toggles between walk and job. Both are quieter than sprint which is Shift(sorry these are all PC controls). C toggles a combat stance but I don't get the point because Jason can just grab you?

There's only 3 maps but there is a slew of different Jason's, with room to add about 5 more variants from the movies alone. Is it worth the full price? I don't think so. But it could be great to get on sale after the issue have been patched out.

I bought it and tried out one match before asking for a refund. It is pretty cool and fun to play, I just didn't feel that what they delivered was worth the price they were asking. The devs have supposedly said they are going to add a single player mode, if they do it might be worth it then. Even if they don't I still plan on buying it again once it's on sale.

They're a new studio, I'm curious if they have the chops to do a solid AI to make single player compelling.

I just found out out that the publisher, Gun Media, is based out of Lexington. Which is like an hour away from where I live. That's pretty neat!

Yep, bought it and played just under 2 hours, going to refund it. Had a lot of shouty fun and yeah its bugged a fair bit but most of all I don't think I'll be able to play with anything other than randos and that removes a considerable amount of fun.
Would keep it at half the price (especially given the exchange for me here in Aus), but yeah, thanks for the hour and a half of fun Jason.

Betting if there was a Corey Feldman skin I'd have kept it too.

I'm having a ton of fun with this. I mean the franchise is close to my heart, so maybe I'm bias. The first few matches were clunky, but ive grown accustomed to it now, and I'm having fun. Sort of a slower version of PUBG feeling.

There were alot of twitch streamers playing last night. I ended up in a few streams -- like this guys at 1:09. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/148171121

I basically ended up as a glorified and frightened GPS for him.

I'm also still having a lot of fun with it. You can easily lose 3 hours in a blink of an eye. I don't really mind the limited maps because the core game play feels so good. Yes, Jason is extremely powerful, but as counselors learn the mechanics and get perks it actually balances out very nicely. If you get into a good group, it can be hilarious and fun.

Yup, confirmed with another night of playing. Not regretting this buy at all. Hit me up if you wanna group up Jakeleg.

Bought it for Ps4 last night but couldn't connect to any matches. Looking to do some private matches tonight. Anyone gonna be playing?

Yeah, but I'll be on steam : (

I've been looking for an interested group wanting to get on Discord and play private matches with my friends. I livestream on pc and can only chat through discord while players on ps4. Anyone else is welcome, I'm going to be getting on Saturday evening 8:30MST

I might be down for that if it's on PC tomorrow night.

Now I'm wishing I would have bought it on PC...

I've been watching the ONE_shot_GURL play and it seems fun!

So I traded in some old DS games for a Steam card and had credit from a return burning up my Steam Wallet. I perused the store for a bit and decided to give F13 another shot since it would basically be 5 bucks. I thought I should play Jason at least once, so I bought it again and re-installed. Several matches in and I'm glad I did. I've really enjoyed myself, but I think for me playing as a counselor is the most fun. Jason is fun as well, but I'm not nearly good enough with him yet. My technique requires I resort to playing one of the Jasons that can run. I still question the price tag for a non fan of the series. Three maps seems a bit light, but the developers are supposed to add more content so fingers crossed. Either way I think as a fan of the films and gameplay it is easily worth the money. For someone looking for the next Dead by Daylight with no interest in the source material I'd say wait for a sale.

Oh and I would most definetly be down for a GwJ community slasher night. Slashers with Jobs! Anyone playing on PC add me: Glycerine74

Just a PSA for anyone playing on PC that I will be on sporadically tonight after 7PM EST so send me a friend invite. If we get enough people maybe we can set up a private match. It would be really cool to get a whole group together and work as a team to try and take down the big guy.

Gametonight?

Finally found some time to play this weekend! Logged onto my PS4 and selected "Quick Play," found a game in 6 minutes!

Then the connection timed out... -_-

Still trying to find a few GWJers to join me on a Discord chat so I can stream ps4

We've got a 4 stack on steam right now if anyone is interested in joining! Msg me!

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday our Family likes to stream a few games here and there and this one is currently our flavor of the week. Check it out if your interested in some goofy fun Hah.

Is this game worth buying I have been fighting the urge to buy it for some time now.

It is a lot of fun if you have a group of people to play with. Quick match pub queues can be hit or miss. There are still quite a few bugs, but they have fixed a lot of the more serious issues they had at launch. That said, I'm not sure I would give it a 'buy' for $40. If you want asymmetrical horror survival PvP, Dead By Daylight is still pretty good and it is now available on consoles. It is $12 right now with the Steam sale. DbD is more suited to random queues. F13 is fantastic with a good group using voice comms together.

I wish I had grabbed a second copy when the sale was hot over the weekend. I def would give this to a friend. Played with some of the Conference call folk. Twas a fun!

Been watching a lot of streams and it looks fun, but not "$40" fun... and it didn't get any markdown on the Steam summer sale.

I question the longevity of the community, and it's obviously not like there's any single-player experience to fall back on.

Can any PS4 players offer their views on the amount of variety offered in game and - consequently - its likely longevity? It's £30.99 which seems a lot for what's on offer.

The game this most reminds me of is Evolve, because of the asymmetric multiplayer. I never got round to playing Evolve as I envisage its player base shrinking quickly. Is this going to have a similar fate?
