Everspace. A roguelike space exploration and combat game.

This game ever go on sale during the steam sales? Definitely picking it up but pretty sure the summer sale is right around the corner so I'm trying to hold off on any PC game purchases until then.

Doesn't look like it's ever gone on sale throughout its early access history. Whether it will go on sale sometime after release - only the devs would know.

I've been eyeing this for a while now. It's currently 20% off at Humble.

^ Rock. Thanks for the PSA on that.

Aaaaand enabled.

Thanks!

This game is definitely pretty. I really dig the random space-hulks that you can fly through and find things in.

Also the "shotgun" weapon is awesome.

When Godzillablitz showed me the video for this game, I bought it pretty much instantly.

I'm a sucker for pretty space-combat games. I don't have a lot of experience with roguelikes (pretty much just DCSS), so the combination is a little jarring. Intellectually, I knew what to expect, but it took a while for the two concepts to mesh in my noggin. I only had an hour or so, and was drinking from a firehose the whole time.

I'm really enjoying it so far. 6-DOF combat is a hoot, even with a mouse. The dim shapes of different strategies are starting to become visible. The learning curve is steep, though it seems more graspable to me than Elite or DCSS have been. It's firing some of the same neurons that Elite on my C64 did 30 years ago.

Does the game have a number of different starting options/styles, or for the most part do you start from the same situation each new game?

At least at the beginning, you get only one ship type (a good all-rounder, they say). It appears you can eventually upgrade starting ship types, though I don't remember the mechanism right now.

You also earn some money during your outings that can be used to make improvements to your ship, like extra slots, etc. It seems to be a spend-it-or-lose-it thing.

I'm not real certain about these two points, as my understanding of the game is still pretty limited. I tried to Remote Desktop into my gaming machine at home and check, but that... didn't go well.

Full release is out.

I'm hoping they update the release on XB1 soon too! I've really enjoyed the Preview version, and it plays really well on the XB1 Elite controller.

This game is strangely addictive! I will finish a run and somehow an hour has flown by.

Also KB and Mouse absolutely FTW. The feel of "Descent in space" is STRONG with this one.

Yeah, they said this was the way they intended the game to be played.

The first time a full on warship shows up (not a corvette)

Even your little Jarvis AI buddy is all "GTFO NOW"

I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick this one up this weekend and give it a go.

I played a couple of hours tonight. Thumbs up so far! I didn't get that far because I switched from a Mac to a Windows machine halfway through and the save didn't sync, so I just started over on the Windows machine.

I like the way you spend credits from your previous run to upgrade your starting ship on the next run.

I'm starting to get the hang of combat, but my starting ship struggles mightily.

I like the balance between exploration, combat, and building up your ship.

And it sure is pretty.

I've seen a lot of descriptions of first impressions, maybe one more mention and then nothing. Has anyone put more time into this? Does it have lasting gameplay or does it get repetitive pretty quickly?

Its been out for almost two days - A bit early to ask if it has lasting gameplay, isn''t it?

For the sake of my sanity I've been keeping it on easy level. Only penalty is -25% credits, but honestly credits have not been that hard to come by. I've already been able to purchase a gunship (the other 2 ships you can get cost 10k each).

Starting to upgrade the ships is making a noticeable difference, and slowly accumulating ancient glyphs is neat.

However I could see this getting old after a while. I've gotten up to sector 5 so far, but the environments, while very pretty, are not incredibly varied. That said the core mechanic of acquiring enough materials to upgrade your ship and keep yourself fueled is pretty fun. The combat is solid for an arcade space shooter.

I've been playing the Game Preview since it launched on XB1 - 6 months or so?. I don't know how much of this has changed with the full release.

It's FTL with 3D movement. Each node is a pretty self contained encounter. Some have Outlaws, some have Okami Fighters, most have resource collection of some type. Fuel is a necessity, as each jump will consume some, and eventually if you're not keeping the tank full you will run out, which has various consequences. As you collect credits, you upgrade your ships out of a run with Perks which are generally passives (everything from item find chance to resource collection boosts to critical hit % and critical hit damage, module damage reduction etc.) and additional slots for weapons and special equipment. There are 2 other ships, both of which have different specialties, and cost 10k credits - which means you need to end a run with 10k total credits saved. There are special containers in each node that hold blueprints, items, more fuel and so on.

Overall, the lasting power will depend on what the encounter spaces are and become over time- story events that can happen, other encounters, and so on. The game is gorgeous (even on XB1) and it flys pretty well. I wish is was more geared towards space, but I understand why they're doing it in an air flight simulator style.

Thus far, it's been a great palette cleanser from Elite:Dangerous, and a good game in its own right.

Quote is not edit. Sigh.

According to Steam, I've put in 33 hours between the Early Access and the released version. The Early Access was a little repetitive, but the released version is significantly better in that regard - more weapon variety, more defense variety, more tactical choices, more varied opponents, more ship types with very different gameplay, and more variety in situations. The storyline is additional icing on the cake.

I wish is was more geared towards space, but I understand why they're doing it in an air flight simulator style.

One of the enhancements trades reduced collision damage for reduced inertial damping. If you then get your inertial damper damaged, you can get to almost Newtonian. I get why they did it though, because maneuvering in tight quarters is ... difficult without the inertial damping. I also love that they worked it into the game, instead of just assuming it.

Fobos-Grunt and I played last night for a few hours last night, and time just flies by with this game. Things I like...

- Dogfights are fun.

- The game can accommodate different play styles. I wanted to get better at combat so I sought it out. Fobos-Grunt was more cautious and exploratory. In the time that I did 20 runs, he did 5. He got much farther than I did each time, but in the end we probably ended up with about the same amount of credit/upgrades.

- So far I'm finding there is just enough variety to keep me interested. Lots of weapon, device, and consumable options make ship building interesting, although I usually don't live long enough yet for it to be meaningful. The zones and situations I'm running into are varied enough that it hasn't gotten repetitive yet.

- Towards the end I started thinking rather than just coming in guns blazing, and things went much better. In my last game, on arrival I had three enemy fighters on each side of me and three trading company fighters off in the distance ahead. Rather than just stay and engage in a 1 vs 6, I hit the afterburners straight for the trading company ships and managed to get there just as the six enemy fighters reached me. The trading company ships engaged the enemy ships as well, and I was able to survive the 4 vs 6 without a problem. You can also play the two enemy factions against each other if you work things right.

I'm looking forward to playing more. It's the type of game you can jump into an play for 15-30 minutes at a time, which is perfect for this busy time of the year for me.

PSA: if you have a HOTAS you can use x360ce to do a serviceable job getting your flight stick to work with this until they put actual support in. Flight stick + VR with this game is pretty sick if you can get it running correctly.

Putting a jump suppressor on an elite Okkari corvette is just plain mean!

Yeah, there was no way out. Guess that's what I get for playing on hard mode

"Performance as per spec. No fault found. Recommend return unit to service."

Killed a non-elite corvette that had a jump suppressor today. Thing about those corvettes, their lasers are pretty easy to dodge, so if you have enough firepower to get through the shields and do some hull damage, you can take them down pretty easily. The kicker is whether you have enough firepower to kill them before reinforcements arrive.

Woo! The XB1 version is updated

I cant remember the name of it right now, but the giant, 1 shot photon torpedo of death weapon you can get is beyond amazing.
