Twin Peaks Catch All

This past two weeks, I re-watched all of Twin Peaks and then Fire Walk with Me. I understand more of what was going on than when I first saw it (at age 10), but still it was pretty weird. So off to youtube for detailed analysis! I will be ready for when this comes out.

Not sure you saw Cobble's post from earlier, but it may be of interest to you ->

The most recent Twin Peaks Rewatch podcast was great, and I'm primed for the premier tonight! Just subscribed to Showtime via Amazon.

I'm going to a party and super psyched to see this. I keep having dread it won't be good, but that's mitigated by Lynch having full authorship. When he helms Twin Peaks it is always amazing. When he's not helming it is when it historically flails. So I've decided to not give my inner optimist chemicals so that he points... to tonight with tremendous, unbridled excitement!

Fire Walk With Me is included in the Showtime subscription. I never watched it, so that's great.

Yep, I'm pumped for the premier tonight. I need some Twin Peaks back in my life.

I watched the series when it originally aired when I was in high school, it was like nothing I had ever seen and I've been a fan of Lynch ever since. Just signed up with Showtime through Amazon, no way I'm gonna miss this.

It was the first R rated movie I saw in a theater. It was, interesting.

Red Letter Media did an interesting chat about it to. It is pretty spoilery though.

Oh god, that opening. I was wondering how they'd handle that. They put up four episodes at once!?! I was not expecting that.

First episode is glorious. I had no idea what to expect, and it still surprised me.

I hate that they also released parts 3 and 4 because I'm going to watch them and then I won't have anything to watch next week.

Check Fortitude... It's like Twin Peaks mixed with The Thing.

About to dive into Ep 3. Damn.

Hey all, was neat to see the new post count light up on this topic, lol...

I enjoyed the hell out of that. Watched 1 and 2 tonight. Saving 3 and 4 for another night. I did the temporary 30 day trial for Showtime - will renew if I have to, was well worth it. One bummer was that I went the iOS route and it won't let me HDMI over to my TV like I usually can. That said, the wife and I snuggled up on the couch with an iPadPro and it wasn't too bad.

I'm up for more. Good stuff! Please, if you're going to comment on spoilers, use the spoiler tags, and maybe label them as to what episode the spoiler is "safe." Just a thought.

Yup, that was a David Lynch joint alright. But seriously though, I'm enjoying it. I wonder what the reaction will be from fans of the original who've never been exposed to Unrestrained Lynch before.

Unrestrained Lynch

I am having some Inland Empire flashbacks right about now. This is amazing, just finished E3 and heading into 4.

I had some super weird and disturbing dreams last night thanks to getting through 3 and a half episodes. All these mosquito like insects kept materializing in my closet, and I desperately attempted to suck them up with a vacuum. That's nothing show related, but I'm sure the show had something to do with weird dreams.

You and me both. I just remember an all-encompassing sense of dread and a shadow. I got through third episode on my commute and am anticipating more tonight.

Three episodes in. I am so glad we're getting this - it isn't at all like I expected. I was anticipating more of a tilt towards Fire Walk With Me than the show - and it has that - but weirdly the Lynch film it feels most like is Lost Highway. But then the fact that there's much nostalgia baked into these characters and this mythos makes it all so much more cogent somehow.

The sound design is not surprisingly amazing. And the imagery is just... Wow. (bobwow.)

Spoiler thoughts for first three episodes...

Spoiler:

-At Ruth's apartment, there is mention of "Chip" - the super's brother, I think - having access / keys. My bet is that is "evil Coop." (Chip and Dale!) Or an evil Coop. Or at least a not-good Coop.
-At first I thought the thing in the glass cage was the statue from the Black Lodge, but on a rewatch it is actually the body of a woman with a severed head, and in place of the head is something that looks a lot like the Tree doppelganger's fleshy... head thing.
-Electricity was a big thing in FwwM and Electrical Outlets are replacing ceiling fans as the mundane objects that become terrifying when filmed by Lynch.
-The show has a very spotty record in regards to diversity. Having Denise was great, but the cast of the entire old series is overwhelmingly white. It was nice to see Hawk have a more nuanced role, and to see some diversity in the new but I can't help but feel that this is still a bit wobbly as of episode 3. Even taking out the old cast out of the equation and giving a pass on that end the new characters aren't quite as diverse as they could be. Especially with so much happening in the South west.

It has stuck with me all day, and I can't stop thinking about it. I'm really impressed and looking forward to catching episode 4 ASAP.

I binge watched the first two seasons of that in a row recently...it's super weird (though not really in a Twin Peaks kind of a way), but great!

My favorite comedic moment so far was from episode 2 or 3:

Spoiler:

Bobby staring at the Laura Palmer picture and hammily choking up. So funny combined with that music theme. Bobby was always my favorite comedic character in the original series.

My least favorite moment which really didn't work for me was:

Spoiler:

Michael Cera getting back to Twin Peaks to see his parents. Maybe it's just because I'm so familiar with that actor doing goofy things that it just felt out of place.

They already have the first S3 Twin Peaks Rewatch episode up!

They wasted no time! Half an hour in and I'm loving their take on part 1 (and their enthusiasm.)

Finished episode 4. Now I'm mad there's no more.

We're watching Into the Badlands and enjoying it, intermixed with TP. Can't wait to see eps 3 and 4.

With the mix of those two, I think my wife and I are both having some pretty bizarro dreams. I just sort of wake up exhausted. lol.

I feel like Twin Peaks is my generation's The Prisoner, for some reason. Maybe I only thought that because of what Coop is going through in the first two eps. I don't know.

Anyway... love seeing these posts...

It was completely out of left field but it totally worked for me. Wally friggin Brando, shine on you crazy diamond.

I just saw episode 4 and I loved Wally. The blocking of that scene was just perfect.

My least favorite moment is the oddly sexist "are you feeling better" "now I am" exchange between Gordon and Albert while Agent Preston walks away.

Everything else has been awesome. I particularly loved Noami Watts and Kyle Maclachlan's scenes together in episode 4.

...how many days until 5 airs?

For those who've seen it, can I get one spoiler?

Spoiler:

Since Lara Flynn-Boyle isn't in it this time, are Cooper and Audrey hooking up finally?

Can't say I'm feeling the whole...

Spoiler:

Cooper personality split/recovery part.. its already dragging and I'm hoping Coop snaps out of it next episode because it's wearing thin. My guess it's tied to whatever the Log Lady told Hawk was missing. Also appears perhaps we have some WestWorld dual timelines happening as well so possibly a giant ugh if that ends up being the whole giant spoiler/gotcha

But so far overall its just about perfect Twin Peaks.

In regards to the above, I'm actually really enjoying how much Lynch is refraining from giving the audience what they would want

Spoiler:

I think most people want to see brilliant/upbeat/quirky genius Cooper. Instead it feels like he's deliberately withholding that from us, to make us look at other things. Tarot card wise, it feels like Cooper has gone from Magician to Fool. I'm blown away by the performance, and I wouldn't be surprised if we never get old Cooper. I also expect we'll get something like that though, but not on our timeline.

Spoiler:

Four episodes in and I haven't seen Audrey at all, but they are still trickling the old crew in so I'd say there's a possibility, but given what's currently happening I also wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get that at all.
