That which has been seen/Vasectomy Snip-all

Hope all went well, Sally. I presume a "Welcome to the club" is in order. Now our pillow talk can be about getting our testicles snipped.

If there was a cheev involved you'd be OK

Best of luck!

There is one, actually. When you don't listen to the doctor and "clear the pipes" and get an accidental extra kid.

Only 1 in 2000 have the Recanalization cheev. It's super rare, and not worth it.

And I hope you went for the liquid valium like I suggested.

I expect I'll be asked to join this club in the future. Anyone do the non incision version of a vasectomy?

I'm also planning on getting this done relatively soon. Not sure who to go to at the moment though. Have to do some asking around.

Hope all went well Sally!

I have passed my "clear the pipes" test so I am in the clear.
Personally I would say the procedure was not bad. My doc just used local painkillers and I hardly noticed it. Until the local stopped working a few hours later when I got home. Then it was uncomfortable.

Also don't be like me and think if everything is feeling goodish it is ok to stop the supportive underwear before a week. I ended up getting some internal hemorrhaging that took 2 weeks to go away. Not much fun.

Just feeling a bit morose and melancholy today. Pain isn't bad, just feel very tight and uncomfortable. Really didn't expect the bruising - it is about 50% deep purple down there!

Spoiler:

Really the image of what they cut out is what keeps playing through my mind and that is the most upsetting thing to me.

Girls and wife are being great an letting me play games and chill for the weekend, though. Going to be hard to not workout for 2 weeks.

If that is the same as the non-scalpel vasectomy, I had it done about 7 or 8 years ago.

Same here, back in 2004. They numb everything, punch a little hole in the front with a spreading tool, pull out the tubes through the hole, snip, clamp, and push them back through, then suture the hole.

It took all of 9 minutes for me. My wife was annoyed because her Starbucks coffee she picked up on the way in was still too hot.

I had no soreness to speak of (I took 1 regular Advil that night), no bruising at all and no discomfort at all. No stitches, no bleeding, nothing at all.

Shaving everything was more annoying and painful.

"Doctor, the pain is manageable, but every time I pee all I hear is 'Highway Star'."

I was waiting for that one. I knew I could count on you, Dan.

Friday is the day for me. I gotta say, I'm rather nervous. I'm being a weenie and being sedated for it, so I probably shouldn't worry. I have a couple of athletic supporters that have a cup pocket which will be perfect for inserting ice packs into. Any last minute words of wisdom?

I would say: don't be offended when the medical staff seem so casual about the whole thing. It's a big deal for us, but the procedure is so minor and so fast that it's just a walk in the park for them. Ultimately that's a good thing, but at the time I felt a bit alone and adrift because of this factor. My surgeon has performed thousands of vasectomies, so it was really just a sign of confidence and competence.

12 days until V-Day for me. Trying not to think about it too much.

There's nothing to think about. It's easy. The shaving is the hardest part. Seriously stressful.

V-Day doesn't sound right; it could be too easily confused with V-E Day, for example. I suggest "V-X Day".

Seriously. The Dr told me "it's a safety razor, your testicles are perfectly safe."

I didn't believe him.

They were.

Although dry-shaving really, really sucks.

Oh, do you have to dry shave? Damn. My clinic said "If you normally shave, go ahead. I if you don't, then don't. We will do it."

If you have 12 days to go, and have to dry shave, can you wet shave now to get a head start?

I think I've mentioned it here before, but if someone tells you a product called Tend Skin will help with the shaving, kill that person.

Or believe them, try it, and then realize I was right the first time.

You definitely can, and it'd probably make it easier.

Nothing in this thread has disturbed me more than this comment. I know I'm the noob here, but you've got to be kidding, right?

Right?!

About a week in and mostly it was painless, just made me a bit tired. The bruising was unbelievable, however.

My Dr. was about my age and we spent the entire thirty minutes talking about Mass Effect and Witcher 3. Was a positive experience, as those things go.

Spoiler:

Except when he showed me what he cut out. That was upsetting and I have had a hard time getting that picture out of my head.

Hardest part so far has been not being able to workout or do my walks.

Spoiler:

I have made it seem much more uncomfortable to my spouse so that I can have some additional TLC.
It really isn't that bad.

Yeah, I am nervous but ready to get it done. My two biggest concerns now are 1) I have to shave in the morning and am nervous. Using my wife's personal trimmer/razor which should help. 2) since I am being sedated, can't eat or drink after midnight. Too bad my procedure is at 2 in the afternoon. Boooooooooooooooooo. Better than the 3:15 it was at least. Thanks for the kind words all! Good luck when your time comes Nomad! I will report back sometime this weekend.

Right?!

My Dr gave me a kit that had a special dry-shave razor in it.

And yes, he said dry shave.

Only 2 things have been more terrifying to me.

1 - Waiting for my wife's breast biopsy results
2 - Waiting to find out if my youngest had MS.

Mission complete! Uncomfortable but not bad. Still have the local so waiting at the pharmacy for pain meds.

Shaving was no big deal. Did it in the shower using my wife's Schick Hydro silk razor. Highly recommend! The one she has includes a trimmer on the back which was awesome so I wasn't trying to shave a forest. I will note, the key here was stretching everything out to try to get as smooth a surface as possible.

Sedation was great. Got undressed in the prep area, laid down on a gurney and then had an IV installed. Gave me a bit of fentanyl to relax then wheeled me into the OR. Got me on the table, hooked up and next thing I know I am waking up in recovery. Now to be a couch potato and relax.

Well done, Sir!

May I suggest that delicious snacks and video games are in order?

Thank you! Oh yes. Mario kart 8 came for the switch today and I picked up uncharted 4. Delicious meals and vegging on the couch this weekend.

Uncharted 4 sounds like the perfect kind of immersive/narrative distraction. That should sort you out nicely. <3

Well, the deed is done. Lying in bed now trying to sleep. Got some footage of the process for those of you brave enough to look.

Kidding. I'm sore but not that sore.

My wife actually watched, brave soul that she is. Well done. Get well soon, man.
