Playstation 4 Games Catch-All

I didn't try Tearaway on Vita, but I found it obnoxious and challenging to control on PS4. It was obviously custom designed for another platform and didn't translate well.

I really enjoyed Tearaway on the Vita, so I'm looking forward to trying it on PS4. I can see myself stopping before the end, but it'll still be fun to return to that world.

I got in maybe 3 matches of Disc Jam beta a couple weeks ago before I got bored and deleted it. It's a neat concept but the execution was lacking, imo.

I have so many Vita games from my PS+ account, I'm actually considering buying a Vita.
Alternatively, I'd consider buying an official Emulator app from Sony for my PS4.

I was just going to say the same thing. I haven't looked into its pricing over time to see when is a good time to buy.

February 31st is the ideal time to buy a Vita. Any other day, you shouldn't bother.

Severed is really awesome, guys. Its one of the best games I played last year.

I've been curious about Lumo since it released.

I bought it in a PS4 sale a while back.

It is VERY reminiscent of the old C64/Sinclair/Amstrad isometric puzzle/platform games (think Head over Heels, there is even a box of donuts in the first area of the game).

It's almost a love letter to that genre/timeframe/gameplay. One trophy is for finding all the Zzap64 logos hidden throughout the game, for those old enough to remember the publication (and Jaz Rignall rings a bell).

Some of the jumps for the bonus items are maddeningly precise, but the feeling of elation when you nail them is delicious.

April's games for NA were announced:

Full lineup:
Drawn To Death, PS4
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, PS4
Invizimals: the Lost Kingdom, PS3
Alien Rage – Extended Edition, PS3
10 Second Ninja, PS Vita (crossbuy with PS4)
Curses ‘n Chaos, PS Vita (crossbuy on PS4)

Looks like the same for AU/EU

All of which leaves April’s full line up looking like this:
Drawn to Death (PS4)
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (PS4)
10 Second Ninja X (PS Vita, Cross Buy with PS4)
Curses ‘n Chaos (PS Vita, Cross Buy with PS4)
Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom (PS3)
Alien Rage (PS3)

Looks like the AU/EU store ranks the PS3 below the Vita, go figure?!?!

Well, I'm almost completely uninterested. I'll probably give Curses ‘n Chaos a go and since I own Lovers apparently I don't own Lovers, so I'll give that a go.

Drawn to Death is a David Jaffe joint, so I'll probably hate it.

You can play FFXIV without PS+, right? I'm really considering letting it lapse. I just haven't played any of the games in a while.

Correct.

I don't know if I'll renew my sub when it's up. I bought a year when I was heavily into ESO and The Division, but I don't know the last time I played a multiplayer game.

Drawn To Death, PS4...

Ouch - AFAIK, this is Drawn To Death's first release, and it's already a free PS+ game. I don't think David Jaffe's had a success since the first God Of War.

I've heard Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime is tons of fun co-op, though - it's been on my "if it's on sale" list for a while.

This isn't the first time a game launched on Playstation as a PS+ freebie. Wasn't Rocket League that way when it hit Playstation?

It was! And it's success is why there have been other mp-focused games released on PS+.

I don't not believe it was the first to do so, but it was probably the biggest success.

That said, Drawn to Death has gone back and forth on being free and paid for, so I'm not surprised they went this route based on the buzz being not so great.

Rocket League released simultaneously on PC though, during a window when practically nothing else big came out. Multiplayer needs a critical mass of players, and if the audience for Drawn To Death is just PS+ members who bother to download it because they're not busy playing Horizon Zero Dawn, or Zelda, or Nioh, or For Honor, or Nier Automata, or Mass Effect Andromeda...

This seems like Sony thinks the game won't be a success, but had a hole in the PS+ schedule that they could fill with Drawn To Death.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on whether the game has microtransactions and DLC. In which case you have a chance to make more money by getting it in as many people's hands as possible to make money down the line. The word of mouth helped sell people on Rocket League even after it left PS+ and encouraged people to buy microtransactions.

Again, these are not the first games to release like this.

I'll be happy if it turns out to be a hit; I'm always up for a surprise success story, and I've got a lot of good memories of God Of War (I've carefully edited out my memories of that last level) and Twisted Metal Black. On the other hand, I'll only hear about it; I enjoy couch co-op with friends, but that's as far as I go with multiplayer.

I wanted to see what this game was about so I went on Youtube to look up videos of it. The first one I found showed a character that carried around a monkey as a weapon. How is a monkey a weapon? Well, it defecates into its hand and flings it at your opponents.

Hard pass.

Abzu and Tales from the Borderlands for PS4 in May, pretty solid... if you don't already own them. Abzu already played and really liked, so did my son. Glad I resisted Tales in recent sales, looking forward to it.

This is one of the least favorable months for me in quite a while. I have Abzu already but bounced off it, and I never got into Borderlands enough to care about Tales. I am curious about Type: Rider though, being that it is cross-buy. The other cross-buy game has the word "disco" in the title, so that's an automatic "nope".

The full lineup:

  • Tales from the Borderlands, PS4
  • Abzu, PS4
  • Blood Knights, PS3
  • Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants, PS3
  • Laser Disco Defenders, PS Vita (Cross Buy with PS4)
  • Type:Rider, PS Vita (Cross Buy on PS4)

I will enjoy Tales I'm sure. Glad I resisted Steam sale.

Same. I almost bought it there. Supposedly it's Telltale's best yet, so I'll check it out.

Folks in EU will get Alienation instead of Abzu

I'm bitter sweet about this.

Sad because I lot of people won't get to access Abzu, but happy, because I bought Abzu in the last sale, and was yet to play it (so cursing and buyer's remorse are now dissolved, /selfish-yeah!)

Tales from the Borserlands is Terrific! Holds true even if you're not into the Borderlands series. Give it a try.

Own both of next months games already but both are pretty great.

I personally hate the writing, world, and characters in the main borderlands games but I loved tales from the borderlands. Easily my favorite telltale game. Also has one of the best sound tracks I've heard in a game. The openings to each episode are amazing.

Ah, must have checked the US blog, assumed they'd be the same as they have in a while. Own Alienation too so no difference to me.
