Illustration sketches for Summer in Orcus by Ursula Vernon.

This isn't really a spider, but damned if it doesn't belong in this thread.

Oh, that is so cool.

There are not enough nopes in the world.

Spiders on the sides of upper floors of apartment buildings isn't that strange, is it? I know my aunt in Chicago used to get spiders outside her windows every spring.

Here's a direct youtube link for anyone who (like me) may not have been able to play the video on that page:

(Not kitty-cat dance. I promise. Cross my heart and hope to die. And have Huntsman spiders at my funeral as pallbearers.)

That is some serious grip strength on those legs to carry that literally dead weight across the front of that refridgerator.

Let me just plug a good creepy book for those scared of but not put off by scaring themselves with spiders. It's called "The Hatching" and it's the first in a trilogy by Ezekiel Boone (great name for a horror writer, no?). The second one, "The Skittering" is also out; third is early next year, I think. Anyway, good old-fashioned jump-scare spider horror built on a mystery thriller framework. Kind of early Stephen King crossed with Max Brooks.

Again, it *will* creep you out, so only for those who like their spiders scary. And skittery.

Much to my wife's dismay, I found what I thought was a wolf spider in our house this morning. After a little research, however, I discovered that it was actually a bold jumping spider.

By way of apology, and to honor such a worthy name, I decided that he deserved a new hat.

Dashing chap

I love those guys! They have personality. Wolf spiders just run around... these guys will look at you and hang out in good areas to catch other things. I almost always try to save them.

Not a picture of a spider, but I'd love to speculate over what mutant species caused this: Mystery bug bite lands Arizona man in the hospital

I was going to guess brown recluse initially but what little I've seen of their bites' effects is more necrotic than bruising. I say this as someone who looked at some Google Images one time after my wife told me the spider i was playing with was a brown recluse.
