I was a member of Karmafleet for a few months until my subscription lapsed and I moved on to other things.
Karmafleet is a subsidiary of the Goons, correct?
Sort of. Karmafleet is a corporation that is in the same Alliance as the goons. The main Goon corp is GoonWaffe (GEWNS). KF shares all of Goonswarm's web resources (forums, mumble, single sign-on, etc) and in-game space, but aren't really "owned" by the Goons. A lot of the corps in Goonswarm Alliance were founded by original Goons that wanted to play with other friends that weren't on the Something Awful forums, or just wanted to experiment. KF has different recruitment requirements (namely, create an account on their recruitment page and fill out the form with some effort). To join the main goon corp, you still have to be a paying SA member or be sponsored by one.
The Goons had a reputation for scamming and killing new players that wanted to join up, particularly if the new players didn't have a paying membership on the out of game forums, Something Awful (I think that's the name). Overall, the Goons had, at best, an unsavory reputation.
The Goons have very explicit instructions for how to join and what the requirements are. In fact, their recruitment web page specifically says that if someone tells you they can get you in without those requirements you are definitely being scammed. If you paid ISK to be a member, you are being scammed. Even the mildest amount of internet research would avoid you losing your stuff if you had any brains. The Karmafleet info says the same thing and they do not allow recruitment scams and will punish members severely for it.
Being on the inside of the Goons forums, mumble, and culture for a few months was a really amazing and surreal experience. The over whelming majority are just normal people being normal gamers, just like GWJ. But there is definitely a large current of early Internet, leet speak, douchebro thrown in there, too. They are fiercely loyal to each other and their friends. They tend to have a pretty sarcastic and dark sense of humor about everything. They love shit-posting and relentless mocking of each other on their own forums. They have taken the mantle of "Ignore those guys, they're just Goons" and worn it very hard. They are lovable goofballs and also vicious jerks. They also don't give two shits about honor, or gentleman's agreements or anything like that. They prohibit cheating by breaking the game's software, but essentially any other tactic is fair game. They're also often hilarious and fun to hang out with and drink with while playing the game.
Years ago, the Goons made their own Goonwaffe Newbie's Guide which includes some early history of the corp and a good intro to playing the game and living in Goonspace. It also gives a very good sense of their general tone. If you find this amusing, KF is right for you:
I highly recommend getting a corp, it's what has kept me playing this game. The three big alliances all have associated newbro corps/alliances (Goons: Karmafleet, Pandemic Legion: Pandemic Horde, TEST: Dreddit), and there's a couple other "independent" newbro corps like Eve UNI and Brave (which I'm in, though we're technically allied to TEST right now). All of them should have plenty of resources to help out new players. Null sec is a lot more fun than high sec IMO.
With the plex changes; Do they mean that 1 plex now gives 30 days/500=0.06 days = 1.44 hours?
No, you can only use Plex for account time in 30 day amounts
RIF
...you got fired from EVE?
I just logged back in as an alpha clone and began a new character. Did all the tutorial opportunities and now doing the Sisters of Eve arc. I was enjoying myself, but I wish there was a way to buy a prefab ship with weapons and modules already installed. Doing it all manually is so tedious I quit my last session.
You can put an entire ship and its fittings into your market quickbar, which makes acquiring all of the pieces easier. But you still have to shop around or make compromises sometimes. Join a big Corp.
Join a big Corp.
Yeahhhhhhhhhh, I already have a full-time job.
All I wanna do is use the Agency for PVE stuff, really.
Join the GWJ channel - there may be one of us on there who can sort you out.
Actually, Veloxi, join small active corp. The corp I'm in is recruiting. Mind you, it's a bunch of RPers who are Amarr loyalists (well, moderate Amarr loyalists), but we're not big on demands but big on helping each other. We do a variety of things: PVE, mining, manufacturing, wormholes and even some light PVP.
If that's not your speed, post here what you'd be looking for, and I, and probably others, can make suggestions.
My podcast co-host is an EVE addict, and runs a small corp for us, so I'll be join them, thanks though.

Cool.
On another note, if you ever want to shoot Drifters (as in shoot them and survive the experience) and see what's inside those Unidentified Wormholes, let me know. I'll introduce you to the ARC people.
For that matter, who are you in game? I'll drop you a buddy list invite; I'm Jennifer Starfall.

Sorry for the delay, life happened, but I'm back in game and we're gonna be streaming it a few times as well. I'm Velox Thiesant!

What is the general plan for the MMO Meetups? Group PvE? Small gang PvP? I have a newish Amarr alpha character that is near your spot and could be useful. I probably need to run some missions to make ISK first.
I'm guessing more PvE, since many of us will be newer characters like myself. I'm working to finish the big Sisters of Eve epic arc right now before Sunday. I'm hoping, personally, for some exploration. That's my favorite.

I like exploration, too. I think my toon in Amarr space has some scanning skills.
I honestly love scanning and wormholes. I'm working toward a specific scanning cruiser, can't wait.
I scanned down so many Wormholes I hear the scanning noise in my sleep sometimes.
We lived inside a wormhole for a while, where the doors moved every day, so someone had to sign in, scan down the doors, (one out to highsec, one to another wormhole, and one in that wormhole out to lowsec), and update the corp bookmarks.
More recently I find a highsec zone that has had a lot of AI kills recently, indicating it's had a lot of missions run. Then I use combat probes to scan down other players who are running missions. Then I warp to them in a salvage ship and take all the loot dropped by the ships they're fighting.
Some people take that better than others.
Hah, that's great.

Why stealing salvage doesn't give kill rights is beyond me. Shooting filthy looters just gets you the Concord Surprise, and this is just one of the many reasons I cut back my playing time.
Concord Surprise?
Also, I ran into an odd situation last night. As part of the SoE arc, I was to choose one commander, so I chose the Amarr commander, and was supposed to report to her. I flew out to her, and nothing happened. Was there anything I was supposed to do besides?
Thanks!
Concord Surprise?
When you shoot someone you shouldn't Concord shows up and breaks all your toys.
It's important to remember Concord exist only to punish, not to protect.
Oh geez. This kind of thing is why I hope to avoid PvP.
Concord only do their jobs in highsec and are there as a deterrent. They will get revenge on anyone who attacks you without cause and sometimes the revenge is fast enough that you're not dead when it happens.
Their major power is putting an economic calculation into the heads of would be attackers: is the satisfaction/potential loot from killing this target worth more than the price to replace my ship and its fitting?
It's been a while, but I seem to recall that Concord wouldn't shoot you if your target was flagged as being in combat to you. And the act of looting flagged them as hostile, so you are free to shoot them once they stole from your cans.
The best way to handle loot thieves was to stop running missions for a bit, and to avoid running missions in busy systems at all. Just flag them as friends so you got a heads-up if they were online.
You might want to avoid PvP in Eve, but it's going to find you eventually. So even if you don't fight, make sure you understand the rules of engagement.
And how does one do that?
And how does one do that?
There are some online guides to PvP that are worth reading just to understand the mechanics so you can avoid or escape engagements. I don't remember any names right now.
If you pull in salvage and place it in cans stealing it lets you combat them. If they tractor it in before you it's totally Concord-approved.
Also watch out for the trick of a weak ship partnering with a stronger ship. The weak ship will steal from your can and you'll think "that little bugger! I can take him!" so you'll start to attack him which means his bigger bud in his squadron is now free to defend him.
People also put things in cans marked "Free stuff!" so that is anyone takes anything the can owner can wreck them. Those can sometimes be fun to look through, once or twice there has been something worth grabbing, if you are already aligned for a jump and have some waypoints in the system you can usually grab stuff and warp out safely. The trick really only works on people that actually think those are things being given away, unless the people that set the trap are really on the ball. Often they'll really whine at you for stealing their stuff too.
Well all I wanna do is PvE (like exploring wormholes), which is why I'm so happy about this new agency thing.
