PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS

See you out there r4n4lin.

Ha! I stopped using leet speak back in my 20s.

I just went the backwards route of Nilanar instead of my normal fall back of Ranakyn.

I picked this up as well. I should be on tonight to try it out.

Had fun with this game last night, thanks to Ran, Jake, Free and Druid. I've only run a few solo games, before joining you guys last night, but I can see how four-man-squad games would really ramp up the difficulty.

Maybe this can become a regular Thursday night thing, I know I'd be down.

Great games last night. Sorry for the itchy trigger finger.

This is some of the best 4-player gaming I've played in awhile. Really enjoyed it.

Played some more solo this morning. Finally got a top 10 finish! Really tense stuff at the end.

There's an art to knowing when to engage and i suffer from itchy trigger finger too!

Just played a bit this morning. Decided to duo with random people and it was a great success! 2/3 had mics. One of them had a great round with me, so we decided to party up. Ended up placing 4th out of 40-some teams! Super stressful at the end.

If I had one request, I wish the circle wouldn't move so fast at the end. It becomes a little too panicked and leads to less-strategic situations (we get shot in the back a lot). Otherwise, fantastic game.

Squad games were a blast, if a bit unforgiving.

Congrats! No worries, it is difficult for me to know when to engage and when not to. I have a tendency to go into 'post-mortem discussion' mode after losing a round to try and figure out what tactics might work better. Apologies if it is a bit annoying. I'm finding coordinating with a 4 man team is a lot more challenging than a duo. I am trying to get into the habit of calling out compass direction and distance whenever I spot an enemy to help be concise and accurate in my call outs.

Agreed on the circle. After a certain stage, it moves faster and chunks your house A LOT more. One thing to be aware of: the circle does much more damage once it stops than while it is moving.

Not at all. It's easy to sound like a jerk when doing that, but you were perfectly fine. I think it's good to talk about what went wrong in a positive way to improve for the future. Just have to approach it the right way (which you did).

Part of that is just familiarity with the game. Like I didn't even know we had a compass until halfway through our session last night. Also there are so many other systems at play (incl. inventory) that take my mind away from the tactics. Once all that stuff is muscle memory, tactics will be a lot easier.

Luckily the antidote is more games!

Enjoyed the games last night!

Put a few matches in this morning and I'm starting to hit my old BattleRoyale routines.

  • Drop into a cluster of folks, duck, dodge, dive, and duck for a bit until I get plastered.
  • Drop into a less hot zone, fight it out with 2-3 over a few houses, and lose to the last guy.
  • and my signature move. Pull chute early, float to worlds unknown, get well geared, and hustle back to the circle for position. Get headshot on first encounter.

Man, I love this genre, but my aim can be just garbage.

I may turn the stream on tonight after the kiddos are in bed.

This is my first BattleRoyale game and I've already encountered all 3 of those scenarios. Luckily I've had enough success to keep playing!

I actually hope they never institute a public Elo rating or "League" system above what they already have. IME, this would just turn the community toxic and place way higher stakes on each game.

Obviously, hidden MMR and balanced matchmaking based on that would be great, however.

This looks so good but with my crappy play time availability and possibility of dropping out due to kid issues, I may have to solo a lot which can be challenging I'm sure. Still enjoying watching vids and game recaps!

Squads are a hoot, but solo is great too. The dev team tries to enforce no teaming on the solo servers, which is nice not having to go up against squads with comms. Teams in solo will still happen, but they run the risk of receiving bans.

This is very much a Rocket League type game where it's easy to put in a quick match, and then maybe another and another and another.

How would you even pull that off? Do you both just hit "find game" at the same time and hope?

Yeah, this actually reminds me a lot of Rocket League. All the crap stripped away to focus on the purest forms of gameplay and competition. I'm so glad there is no crafting in this game.

Awesome, thanks!

Picking this up and will be playing late tonight (Anywhere between 10pm-1am central). I'll hop in the Curse channel if anyone is interested feel free to join me!

Linky

I guess they're points that were made in a dev stream.

i caved and picked this up too.

You can definitely have a ton of fun playing this solo, but we had an absolute blast in squads last night. A couple #2 placings and a bunch of #3-#9s.

Agree. This game is just plain better with 2-4 people. However, I HIGHLY recommend playing Solo to cut your teeth. Obviously, GWJers will be happy to walk through the finer points of this game, but it's nice to practice aiming the guns and learning the map while you play Solo. I feel like the stakes are lower because no one is relying on me.

Great post, Propa. If they reasonably hit those milestones, I'll be super happy. I really love that they're communicating timelines and being upfront about stuff with no ETA or long ETAs. Gives me lots of hope for the future that they're so concerned with setting the correct expectations.

I played solo a bit last night to get a rough sense of what I was doing. My best finish was placing 4th, and felt like I was finally getting a handle on the different weapons/ phases of each round. I'll probably be on tomorrow night and try to try some group rounds

This seems like a different version of Tarkov. Am I understanding the game correctly?

The current state of Tarkov is battleground oriented, but that's not what they said the end product will be so not sure where they're going.

The modding options for weapons is definitely more advanced in Tarkov, but actual gunplay is on par or better with BATTLEGROUNDS and it has better performance currently.

i've been pretty terrible so far, placing in the 40-50s. I guess at least i'm not those guys getting knocked out in the 80-90s.

Gumbie, Ranalin, and I just got our first squad win (at least it was my first, I think it was theirs too). We even won with only 3 against 4man squads.

After a very quiet start, we had to move quickly because we couldn't find a car for a long time. Ranalin died a heroic death in the midgame, killing 3 guys and securing us a boat and safe passage from a hot zone. Gumbie and I turtled hard, only engaging when we needed to. We used a line of concrete Jersey barriers as cover while we prone crawled our way to within the circle. Ended up encountering 2 more squads of 2 each. Wiped the first squad from a distance and had to have a close firefight with the second. Gumbie went down, but I was able to kill his attacker and revive him. However, Gumbie had no 5.56 ammo left and I only had 7.62. We couldn't loot our victims b/c the circle was closing fast. Gumbie quickly switched to the UMP and we headed uphill. We finally encountered our "final boss" squad, but had excellent position with a ridge. I took down someone from a distance with my AK while Gumbie covered the flank. In the final moments Gumbie charged the last remaining guy and got him down to almost 0 HP with his UMP. The circle finished him off while I watched and (presumably) smoked a cigarette.

This game is almost too good. I'm gonna be chasing this high for months.

I am seriously considering this game, but I cannot tell if it's a game I just like watching or I would like playing.

Just got it and played my first game solo. Top 12, got no kills getting that far and had a lot of health taken away learning to run AWAY from the boundary! Damn was it fun and intense though! Can't wait to get in some squad loving with you guys!

f*ck it... I'm done after this round. OK one more round. OK one more round. One more.... 3 hours later... 30 minutes before my alarm is set to go off.

Okay, I did it. Do I need to create a Curse account for comms?
