US Soccer Catch-All

Glad to see the games are all on channels we have too. I'm watching the last 30 minutes of Uruguay vs. Brazil now.

What? According to ESPN FC that match doesn't start for three more hours.

Whelp I just posted something in the 2016/2017 Soccer thread that I meant to say here. TLDR check the go90 app for many of these matches, particularly those airing on bein Sports. Colombia - Brazil is on now.

Apparently I was in some sort of alternate universe this afternoon. I turned on BeIn Sports and they had Uruguay vs. Brazil on, and I watched the last 30 minutes of a 2-2 tie. Then I did stuff, and saw that the game didn't start for another two hours.

Really confused I am. Sorry for anyone caught in the blast radius.

I'm glad you're back in our timeline.

That said, if you saw that the US is going to win tonight, go ahead and tell me now.

TONIGHT!

Btw there are other WCQ matches on beforehand, and tons more later this weekend. Lots of soccer to watch.

Somewhere, Jurgen just ordered another Schnapps.

So, that was good.

Hopefully they saved a few for Tuesday.

The 6:0 scoreline was, of course, flattering. Honduras missed a couple of sitters, and they had some nice buildup that had decent looks. Luckily, it seems that Brooks was dehydrated and not injured, so we should see him in Panama.

I feel bad for Lletget. A dream start like that deserves more than 17' on the pitch. I hope he's OK; if the TV gave more info on his injury, I missed it.

Pulisic + 4 years = OMG!

Pulicic is so good at 18. Not potentially good, damn good right now. It didn't completely clear the bad taste in my mouth from watching my Badgers lose the best game in the NCAA tournament on an overtime buzzer beater, but it helped a little.

Double post

I totally agree. He looks much better than he did even a year ago, though, and it was fun to watch him play then. I can only imagine his ceiling should he continue to develop at this rate.

Tonight! The USWNT vs the Crazy Ivanas, part one!

Russia was pretty disorganized (especially defensively), but we wasted a lot of opportunities, and our passing in the midfield was lax enough that I think other top teams would have dominated us.

That said, the team finally managing to score in 2017 was an important step, as was keeping a clean sheet.

I am trying to decide if they are going through a breaking in period or just are not a top 4 team anymore. Whatever the case, they have been rather brutal to watch lately. That said, nice to see some shots go in the net, regardless of opposition.

Hopefully the collapse in form over the last year will be fuel for training. I have to think we still have one of the best player pools in the world.

And did y'all see Rose Lavelle last night? She was fantastic!

TheWalt and I are out here, and it's a gorgeous day by Houston standards - heck, nearly by San Diego standards! USA up 4-1 at the half, and I assume the possession numbers are absolutely gaudy.

And a University of Wisconsin Grad at that.

At least I think she graduated!

This allegedly leaked practice shirt is gorgeous: http://www.footyheadlines.com/2017/0...

I'm a bit annoyed, because it would be our best jersey in years if it was for games.

Some folks are taking this as a hopeful sign that our rumored-to-be-good Gold Cup jerseys are going to be absolutely amazing.

I just want to know when I can buy this thing, and whether they're making it in kid sizes.

They tried the Stars thing before.

Somehow a lot of people still love that one.

Again, this Is a practice shirt, but damn, so nice. I may buy two.

Very cool. I'm not 100% convinced on the contrast between the white stars on the bottom and the dark blue stars on the top, but it's certainly creative and a step in a different direction.

I could see this being quite popular. I could see a few of these ending up in our house too.

Great article on Josh Sargent, the scoring star of the U17 USYNT team who was called up to the U20 USMNT team for the U20 World Cup in South Korea, put in the starting line-up, and scored 2 goals in a 3-3 vs. Ecuador and the only goal this morning in a 1-0 win over Senegal. They are on top of their group after two games. They face Saudi Arabia Sunday in their final group match. Unfortunately, it sounds like Gideon Zelalaem tore his ACL. Such a shame.

Highlights from today's Senegal Match

Sargent's goal today was a sick, sick move.

US U20 Round of 16 game is on right now on Fox Sports 1. Up 1-0 vs Kiwis on a deflection goal by Sargent.

Well, it could not have gone much better for the US. With three players sitting with cards and Zelalem out injured, they scored five second half goals, no cards or apparent injuries, and were able to use all three subs in the 6-0 win against the overmatched All Whites. Sargent is really, really good. No wonder he dominates on the U17 squad. Very few negative touches, has a wonderful positional sense and game feel, and he is a goal scorer.

They face Venezuela late Saturday night/early Sunday morning in the Quarterfinals. Portugal and Uruguay are the other teams in their half of the bracket.

Only woke up in time for the second half; still saw 83% of the goals!

The USMNT has a friendly this Saturday night a few hours before that U20 game, but I don't think I'll be able to stay up and watch.

We're about to hit a period with a lot of games for both the men and women. It's a great time of year!

Perfect time to DVR the U20 game (with an extra recording time to cover a possible OT/Shootout) and get up earlier in the morning to watch, with some fast forwarding as necessary!

What's amazing about this U20 team is how many players aren't on the roster.

Matt Doyle has a great article about it here:

It would be, but I can't watch games that have already taken place. I used to do some DVR delays, but I can't not look at the results. Once I do, I don't want to watch the game.

Btw one thing I didn't mention before - both the USMNT friendly and the Men's U20 game are against Venezuelan squads!
