I too remember the hype for the Wii being AFTER launch, not before.

yes, but the console was released here months after the US, so there was a lot of hype coming from there.

Maybe there was not much people that listened to the GWJ podcast, or the 1up Yours* from spain on those days, and that's why there wasn't much hype here before release.

* Or the Brodeo xD

While Super Mario Cart was only 2 players max, it felt like more. It is technically multiplayer, but I usually think of 4 players fitting that bill.

Ummmm....

As for games from 2007 that we still play today, CivRev came out in 2008 and is still on weekly rotation at my house.

This week I played a little of Tomb Raider (2013), Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age: Origins.

Right? Mario Kart says hi. All the way from fricking 1992.

I meant ONLINE multiplayer!!!

Technically Mario Kart 8 still beat Splatoon to the punch on that one.

CivRev needs to be ported forward to newer platforms other than iOS so very badly.

ooh yes ... with some new scenarios, maps and leaders.

Something to consider regarding motion sickness: sea bands. years ago, I dated a woman who got motion sick when watching a first person game. A pair of these, purchased for under $10 at a convenience store, sorted the problem out every single time.

Sea Bands are a great idea. By the way, was the woman's name Rio?

And this, because you will all seek it out anyway.

Conceded.

I've heard ginger tablets work for some people for seasickness, so possibly motion sickness as well? Also I don't recall you mentioning field of view, if that's an option on a game I hear increasing the FOV helps some people.

Re: Boardgame question, correct me if I'm wrong, it sounded to me like the person was describing a strategic deficit, not a tactical one. The things you said are good, I would add that a lot of eurogames have some kind "get bonus points if you fulfill this condition" card so you can pick one of them, and make it your goal to achieve the requirements of that. Like the tickets in ticket to ride, there are a bunch of big eurogames that have something similar but they're optional, and you can grab them early . Or it might be the building or space or whatever that gives the most victory points, you might look at the requirements for that and start thinking "what am I going to need a lot of to complete this?" and go from there.

If you're talking area control games, I'm probably similarly hopeless there. Just don't ever play vanilla Risk or any Risk that isn't Risk Legacy, because they are bad anyway

Oh and re: older games, retro stuff is all the rage right now anyway. As long as you're doing it with the right lens and with respect to each game's limitations, why not revisit 2007 in ten years time, and put up a "teens react" vr holostream about it?
