Hitman (2016) Episodic Catch-All

I got the Angel of Death, but it wasn't clean. She always had at least the Colonel, and sometimes 3 other guys, escorting her. Resigned myself to a screwdriver to the back of the head in the lamp shop, then losing myself in the crowd and bolting to the exit.

i didn't have time to get to the Angel of Death, but i managed to watch GB play it on UPF, in a split screen 4 player contest. That was painful to watch.

I got her as well, shot to the back of the head from behind cover while a decent distance away, she was busy looking at some shop on the main market. I wasn't 100% sure everything was clear behind me, but luckily nobody saw me and I could just walk out. Took me ages to actually find her in the first place though.

Indeed it was.

I just posted up on the rooftops by the agency drop with the Jaeger.
Patience is key.

Why this game is great.
I need to start capturing my play to make gifs.
I rarely do things like this but sometimes.

I'm a master sniper now.

Oh man the Scarlatti covenant is great and makes you do an absurdly tight run.

Took out the new Elusive Target, The Guru. Anyone else attempt yet? I didn't think I would try so early, still learning the Sapienza map, but I thought I saw an opportunity from the briefing vid.

Spoiler:

I spawned in the ICA safe house with the Jager, and took him out through the window while they sat in the cafe across the street from the mansion. Took me longer to run to the speedboat than to kill him.

Watching Jeff shaking his head while Dan played HITMAN™ on UPF yesterday was hilarious. He plays it like playing MGS without using stealth. Running around strangling randomly and throwing people off railings at will. Madness.

From watching all of Metal Gear Scanlon, I'm 90% sure that Dan did play MGS without stealth. He was always saying things like "oh, I just ran through this area with an assault rifle."

I finally got to try one of the elusive targets. It didn't last very long.

I get the feeling the elusive targets work better when you've been able to take more time to learn the levels. Having just come to the game now, I haven't had that chance. On this one, I wound up getting into an area of the map I hadn't even known about before now, got stuck between two guards, and killed. This is probably the first episodic game I've run across that probably worked better if you played it episodically than just starting now. I might just pony up and buy into the next season at the beginning so I can experience that.

I can't wait for season 2.

You're not wrong.
Do some escalations, learn a map better, get some unlocks.
I find escalations so much more rewarding than straight challenges that I only ahve paris and sapienza to level 20 as they had enough escalations to do that for me.

I have sapienza up to about level 10 so far, and just started playing around with the next one. The problem is that I only have a little bit of game time each week, so I haven't come close to getting to know most of the maps in-depth. That means I get to either try the elusive targets basically blind, or just don't try them. I guess that's what I get for waiting.

Escalations escalations escalations escalations

Escalations definitely teach, if only to find the objects you need for the mission, like the sword in Paris. I need to do more.

As soon as I have time, yup, I'll do some escalations. At about an hour or two of game time per week, I should be ready for elusive targets some time around next Christmas.

I have one week to learn the Bangkok map. Haven't been there yet.

Successfully (if, clumsily) killed. I feel like there wasn't too many useful options with this one (e.g: I couldn't spot any useful accidental kills or anything) so i just ended up resorting to...

Spoiler:

...throwing a knife at the back of his head while he's in the kitchen, then quickly darting into a side room and changing into an alternative disguise I had waiting in advance, then just walking out. Not a high score but it got the job done!

If anyone DOES spot any inventive ways of taking him out, I'd be curious to hear about it.

You can clear the kitchen if you're pretty patient. One of the escalations involves the freezer area.

Elusive down.

Spoiler:

Started as security guard with the silver baller.
Went to the kitchen and cleared the pantry area.
From there it was just a waiting game until homeboy strolled into the kitchen and a quick 1-2 downed him and his guard. Walked to freedom.

Chameleon has met his end.

Spoiler:

This was maybe my favorite elusive so far.
Spent a few runs scouting the compound, finally figured out he was on the second floor of the main house.
After that I took my time slowly ko'ing every other ai on that floor and stashing them in the bedroom.
Then, a simple baton to the head on Mr. Chameleon, a laptop hack and a swift shove over a ledge finished off an elusive where I didn't just use a sniper rifle.

It's so succinct.

I love this game. Bought it during the Holiday sale. I'll be very surprised if it doesn't end up in my top 3 games of the year. It's so, so good.

Dictator Elusive report

Spoiler:

Started in the suite and did the room service into climb transition to get access to the suite.
Then I did a cheezy proximity duck throw before going into what seemed like every single room to try to find the data stick.
It was in the other tower's security room.

Surgeons Elusive report

Spoiler:

I went to the bathroom area under the sushi bar and waited for no one to be around but the guard, and then knocked him out. Oops, the guy around the corner saw me, so gotta knock him out. Oops, the guy in the smaller bathroom came out and saw the guard on the ground, so gotta knock him out. Finally went back upstairs as a guard, then behind the bar, down the stairs, and outside around to the small storage room under the heliport. Knock that guard out, and stumble into the pilot going out the door. Stashed him next to his guard buddy, went up to the heliport now dressed as the pilot, lured the head surgeon down into the storage room to get his pill fix, and then took his clothes and tossed his body over the side. Just to be sure. Went back in through the door downstairs and hung a left, upstairs into the morgue and the stem cell research room where the virus syringes were. Around the corner and up the internal stairs, the lady doctor was at the end of the hall on the phone. She hung up and walked into the room on her way to the adjoining waiting room, and in a panic, I knock her out and find that you can't inject someone who's already knocked out. Oops, snapped her neck. Made my way out and up through the sushi bar thinking the other target is the one who's always suspicious in there...nope, no sideburns. As I go around the side exposed to the courtyard to avoid him getting suspicious of me, the doctor with the sideburns strolls in. I follow him in as he goes into one of the dining areas, and then he proceeds to call me a weirdo because the only noisemakers I have on hand are a crowbar and a screwdriver, and, well, I decided to go big or go home with distracting him. I follow him back outside and marvel as he leans on the glass fencing with a view of the heliport. With the syringe at the ready, I misread the prompts and shove him over the side. Oops. The guards waste no time in opening up on me, and it's all over.

TL;DR missed it by that much.

Surgeons Elusive

Spoiler:

Started as ninja.
Transition down the mountain to become pilot -> surgeon.
Then I cleared the morgue and explored, finding the virus in stem cell storage.
3 or 4 clean coins later I'd Silent Assasin'd my first elusive on Hokkaido.
The woman I took in a hallway when she was isolated, the duder I just poisoned in the central courtyard.

I've finally returned to this after giving it a try in December. I've focused on the initial training area and completed all of the challenges and escalations except for Hammertime. I've only put in about 7-8 hours so far, and seeing that I got this on a really good deal from Gamestop ($15) I'm already happy with the value I got from this and I still have a ton of content left. I'm curious to see how the non training levels are compared to the initial one.

It's kinda fun to try to do the different permutations of the levels. Would a good order to play be:
The story for that level-> the challenges -> the discoveries -> the escalations (if I decide to do them)

What else am I missing? I know there are elusive targets, but I don't know what they are yet. Where do they fit into the order I describe above? Is there anything else I should be playing and if so when should they be played?

This game is pretty darn good.

Also, I notice I use the minimap a lot to keep tabs on where enemies are. Do you guys keep the minimap on or turn it off?

Holy crap Paris is so much more confusing than the training level - as I guess I should have expected. It's so much more open that I don't even know what to do! I was tailing one of the targets for a while after getting a disguise and tried to find a moment he was alone. He wasn't alone quite enough when I tried to off him and I got shot to death.

I started Paris with the story mission. Doing some challenges would probably help me with the story mission, but ti seems like it would take away some of the more natural discovery by exploring.

I'd also like to hear what order everyone else approaches the maps in. I picked this up in the Humble Freedom Bundle and have put about 20 hours into is so far. Been jumping around a bit in Paris completing the challenges and doing some of the escalations. Tried out Sapienza last night and really enjoyed that level, very different feeling than Paris.
