Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Catch All

You can shoot out tyres, at least for civilian cars on the road.

Tagging - there's an ease argument for everyone getting a tagged object, but there's a counter in terms of exploration/completion. Some people - like me - like tagging things themselves.

Difficulty - I like being able to set my own difficulty, apart from the host. My question is how that difficulty handled. Does it just make enemies' guns more dangerous when fired at me, or does it affect their AI too? The latter is more interesting.

I've pre-ordered. Yes, the game is not ideal, none of them are, but for what it's trying to accomplish, it does it really well.

Hopefully they will improve on some things with patches but I haven't had so much fun cooping with friends in a long long time. Playing solo was also fun, especially in the second province.

I on the other hand am in but on the Xbox because that's where my friends will play.

It's not the most well put together game. Not even close. It's not even the most well put together game coming out in in the next couple weeks.

But it's a game my friends and I will have various kinds of cool/awesome/stupid fun in for hours and hours, flaws and all.

It's like giant open world terrorist hunt from the older Rainbow Six games, but with a bunch of aspects of the Mercenaries games layered on top. The AI was always braindead in t-hunt modes too and it never stopped us from having a great time with those.

Yeah, it's a janky and kinda stupid game if you look critically at a lot of parts of it, but honestly all we need is the goofy bits and the cool action movie moments and we'll be good to go and happily ignore the rest because, well, there isn't another four player co-op game like this that does these things.

To be honest I was out right up until I got in with a couple good friends and we played the entire beta on Thursday night and again Yesterday. But we had a ton of fun with it.

So, undercooked though it may be, Ubisoft is the only chef offering us the food we want at the moment.

Sometimes you just want sh*tty pizza.

I am in on PS4.

I played a good bit of the beta on XBone. This has got a very similar feeling to other open world games and I think I've had my fill of that.

I've had a couple of crashes and the odd bug but it all seems to work but on a pretty basic level. Poor vehicle handling, bullet drop only for snipers, dodgy AI, lots of samey missions- agree with all that.

I've had some pubbies in games trying to play 'properly' and that was quite interesting. I can imagine this being fun with friends but a bit hollow feeling outside that.

I might change my tune if the full map was unlocked. There might be variation in the main missions and enough difficulty to keep things interesting. That said, the second region had the maximum five skulls difficulty and I managed to romp through that with randoms.

My pet hate is helicopters. It seems like any kind of attention from one inevitably draws in more of them and I have nothing to get rid of them.

I was giggling like a wittle boy playing this with two friends yesterday. I think a large factor to my giddiness was the length of time since playing a co op open world actioner. the last one was Crackdown?

But there's nothing about Wildlands that screams out for a full price purchase. The whole thing felt charmingly last-gen not counting the excellent scenery. The driving feels terrible which is unforgivable with how much of it you're expected to do. Movement and shooting felt stiff. General atmosphere way too self-serious.

Could be a nice beer night game at best.

If they really manage to satisfy hardcore players and arcade mode players, they will have achieved something remarkable. For myself, I may buy this game somewhere down the road at a discount. Right now I'm planning to give the new Zelda my best shot starting Friday.

Note to open world game developers: Please consider setting your games somewhere less mountainous, with fewer switchback roads, if you are going to want players to drive a lot. Thanks!

Roads are for wusses.

With helicopters parked everywhere, why would you "drive a lot"?

I was going to say we were flying helicopters everywhere. Especially after we found the big one with a minigun mounted on both sides that the two riders could shoot.

The only time we drove is when a mission took us specifically in a vehicle or on foot somewhere where there was no helicopter. Then when we got out we drove... straight to the nearest helicopter.

I guess I didn't play enough to find helicopters plentiful. Still, I consider driving more fun, as long as it's not a chore.

I must say, it's a tribute to this game's realism that I felt bad about carjacking people, or accidentally killing them. Even though I'm trying to play it lighthearted like Mercenaries, I found myself thinking a lot about my team, their mental health, and the things that real soldiers go through.

That's true, we did the same.

But also when your destination is downhill-ish, try to just drive there without using roads. It's a lot of fun! People complain about the game's driving physics but if it results in so much fun off-road driving, I am fine with it.

Wrecking havoc in an APC was awesome.

I'll admit the off-roading was fun especially surviving cliff jumps in a regular sedan or pickup truck. Our party was also constantly keeping an eye out for helicopters, unfortunately all of our aerial trips were always cut short by typical open world mayhem/bad piloting.

Will likely be picking this up on the PS4.

You know what the biggest problem with this game is?

That I can still hear the satisfying thump of the bullet hits and my squad saying Tango Down, and Clear. My desire to play the good parts is eroding my dislikes. Watching a few more videos on the jungle areas looked very interesting to check out. Even the updated Season Pass content posted looks ridiculously interesting.

I'm probably going to end up caving and picking it up on the PS4. I'll just have to be conscious of the voice content for younger ears that may be around.

For any interested, a redditor seems to have gotten a copy early and is discussing the pre-day1 patch.
Edit: User provided proof of game disk.
The interesting summary of the discussion was:
Day one patch is 2.72 gig in size
Gun Smith zoom bug now exists - probably not the final day1 patch
Vehicle controls are still not great, but may have some car steering improvements.
AI seems slightly more reactive
No single player AI customization

Got my key from GMG this morning. Unfortunately, not able to preload as of yet. Hopefully we'll be able to.

Yeah it'll probably open up for pre-load around 1 today. Most game stuff waits for around 10 pacific(like Steam) and Ubi usually opens up pre-loading the friday before a game comes out.

Awesome, thanks! I don't think I've ever preordered an Ubisoft game that wasn't via Steam, so I wasn't sure.

On another note, for anyone who wants to scratch the Wildlands itch before Tuesday and owns Arma 3, the mission Hunter Six might be right up your alley.

Playing the Division until this comes out. Had a blast in the beta. I'll be playing this on the PC. Shooters and consoles just dont mix well with me.

Well, I caved. I watched one too many videos and want to explore everything.

If you're on the PS4, feel free to send a friend request and see if we can assault something.

I'm really itching to play this.

[Homer voice] Stupid Tuesday release dates. [/Homer voice]

It's the weekend! Gimme gimme gimme.

My copy has shipped. Don't let me down, USPS!

BTW, preloading did start on Friday. And Greenmangaming have sent out their codes.

I forgot to start my preload over the weekend, gotta do it tonight.

Does anyone know at what time the game goes live?

12 am EST

If you are in the US, it should be 12AM eastern, 11pm tonight central, etc.

I like the idea of the 4v4 MP mode that will be released later, that could be a TON of fun.

Pre-load complete. Will look to get some time in with it tomorrow.

I played about an hour yesterday around midnight. Bad news is that I haven't really noticed anything different from beta aside from the unlocked provinces. I wish driving control was a smudge less sensitive even after I moved the options slider to 0%. Good news is that the network seems to be more stable than beta, we had no problems connecting and playing coop within an hour from release.

The game looks great and plays great, can't wait to dig in tonight!
