I doubt there will be a major review site that doesn't say it is great. That just doesn't happen to AAA tilted

Yes, but every Zelda game is hated by fans when it comes out and rehabilitated later.

Personally, I'm looking forward to everyone realizing Skyward Sword was actually great.

Who know, but it's not going to be me. I've gone back to TP, WW, and SS. I enjoyed the first two and quickly got bored by Skyward Sword. It felt washed out, and the locations just didn't seem as interesting...possibly because of how they reused them...dunno. Not sure if I will ever go back and finish. That being said, I WILL play the new one someday.

I've got BotW preordered with a friend on Amazon, but it still says the game will get here on 29 March, which is obviously a little later than I would want it. In other people's experiences, does Amazon just do this sometimes but the game gets there on launch day, or should I expect to wait a month? As far as I know, we preordered it early enough, so I wouldn't think we're in the third wave of shipments or anything.

There's definitely something wrong there. They sometimes like to safeguard against promising early delivery dates by giving a further away estimate but your talking a week max (that I've seen with a product) & that's never happened with a videogame in my experience. I'd email amazon directly & see what's up with that ridiculous date.

Maybe you accidentally ordered from a marketplace reseller/profiteer listing?

For what it's worth, my Amazon order shows expected delivery on Friday.

I put my order in back in December before the release date was nailed down, and I had the same issue. I was fairly confident that I'd get it on launch day, but just in case I went into the order page and "updated" the shipping option to what I already had. That made the right delivery date show up.

Edit: And of course, it is now showing that my order has been delivered (it hasn't) while also saying they don't have an estimated delivery date. So maybe don't do what I did? Now I'm concerned.

That sounds pretty close to what we did, so I was hoping that was the case. I don't know that I have preordered anything through Amazon, though, so I wasn't 100% sure. Thanks, everyone!

For what it's worth, I just got an email from Amazon confirming release day delivery for my order.

Mine also says it'll arrive Friday.

So I did the Cave of Shadows in TP tonight, but it didn't prompt me to save my Amiibo after finishing it. Not sure if I need to do it again (I hope not, it took 45 minutes).

You beat all the levels with 20 full hearts? I'm pretty sure it does prompt you to save to the Amiibo. I would have thought something really odd was going on if not when I did it.

It prompted me to save after I beat the first 5. I'd never played it before, so I had to do it in 3 separate segments. I checked again though, and indeed it didn't save my last progress so I will have to play again if I want credit for the full dungeon. I don't have 20 hearts, just 19 (kinda don't want to hunt down the last 3 heart pieces).

It's not clear to me that you need to have a save from the full clear for the companion though.

Huh, yeah, you have to do each of the 3 segments, and it lets you save at the end of each. So, you can beat levels 1-5 for the first time and save (theoretically, if you beat that clean you could save your 19 hearts to the amiibo there). Then you get the same opportunity playing levels 1-10 and then it goes to levels 1-15 or something along those lines.

I'm certain you get a chance to save your progress to the Amiibo at those end of stage points.

My Wii-U preorder also seems to be on track to arrive on Friday. I'm a bit anxious that the framerate will really detract from my enjoyment, it's been a long time since I've even tried playing anything that targets 30 fps - hell, I'm so used to 144hz even 60 is choppy to me now. Maybe I'll just get used it again after a short while, who knows.
But even if I end up not being able to enjoy it fully, my wife and daughter both are super into Zelda as well, and I'm the only fussy one in the family regarding technical stuff, so there'll be fun times had with the game in our home even if I'll end up watching more than playing myself. Either way I'm looking forward to it.

So is the consensus to get this on the Switch (after I can finally get the console), or is the Wii U is fine? I had the new console pre-ordered on Amazon until they cancelled it due to accidentally overselling (I grabbed one during their very last batch).

Famitsu:

Zelda: Breath of the Wild (NSW / Wii U) – 10 / 10 / 10 / 10 [40/40]

Four out of the 24 perfect scores from Famitsu have been Zelda games. Crazy. First game to get a perfect since Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in 2015.

Who has two thumbs and couldn't get launch day shipping because they did the pre-order alongside Art & Artifacts?

Also the first perfect score for a Western game since Skyrim and the first ever perfect score for an Ubisoft game.

The edge to your joke is so dry it took me a while to figure it out.

We can look at the book and imagine how awesome Breath of the Wild would be :p

That book is pretty freaking amazing. It rivals The Sky for top spot in my shelf.

Nintendo peeps: roughly how long till a person can hop on Amazon and casually order a Switch?

I ask as someone who doesn't follow consoles; my understanding has always been that Nintendo is it's own quirky animal when it comes to meeting supply and demand(?)

Well... not quite "casual" but there are Prime related promotions on the 3rd.

No one knows how much stock there will be with the Switch. History says it might sell out and be tough to find, but maybe not.

Uh, BotW reviews are pouring in and they're even better than expected. People are basically calling it a watershed open world game and one of the best games Nintendo has ever released. Wow. The praise is intense.

I'm honestly not surprised. I was disheartened last year to see how many Western open-world elements Nintendo was chasing, mechanics that I don't necessarily assume making anything better (whoo. more crafting. yay.), but I've since softened on the stance. Even so, that Western outlets love it so much is honestly kind of expected for me since it feels built for them.

But, that doesn't mean I'm ignoring all the Nintendo touches that will be brought to the open-world, and since last year's E3 I've been more and more interested (though honestly, the hype didn't start until the story trailer. That's what has me excited).

That's a lot of perfect scores. It's good to see that Nintendo splashed out for more than Famitsu this time, but damn.

I suppose I'm obligated to dislike this one now or else ruin my street cred.

Hey don't forget a bunch of stuff, like crafting, started out in earlier Zelda games like Skyward Sword.

But clearly not enough money was dropped to improve Switch scores.

Did it? I only played the first dungeon or so. I stopped at the one where you go down into the... tree? Rock? There are mole people. They talk to you. I had the bug thing.

It's been a while, but I know the stamina meter carried over from Skyward, at least. Completely forgot it had crafting.

Fwiw, I keep seeing people mention that crafting is played out in most games, but that they enjoy it in BotW. Obv it'll come down to personal preference.
