Alright, here's an offseason thread.

This is also a good time to bring this up: I will be stepping down from the NFL threads starting with the beginning of the 2017 regular season. With Grumpicus moving on from running the fantasy leagues, I am going to step up and take on that role.

I will continue to maintain the www.gwjnflpickem.com site for use by whomever takes over the weekly NFL threads. So figure out who you want to make the threads. Maybe you can get someone that will post them on Tuesdays even. But whenever they get posted, it ain't gonna be by me, because

I volunteer for the thread posting duty, largely just so I have a regular forum to mock Blainke Bortbert.

Low hanging fruit. You've got to dig deeper for the big leagues. You have to dig up heroin smuggling kickers from the '80s.

No, no, I have a life. Low-hanging fruit is fine.

Chiefs tag Eric Berry, allow Dontari Poe to hit free agency.

Dammit Poe is a free agent and I'm not a GM. Dammit!

Hey Jacksonville how about Poe right next to Malik Jackson?

So Cousins got franchised.

Huh didn't expect that. I guess he kind of forced their hand with his trade demands.

Hey look, a Legion post I clicked the Like button on.

Fully expected it. The Redskins haven't even offered him a contract (it appears that tehy haven't even reached out to ANY of their free agents). They have hinted that they were waiting for the combine to do something. Its a slow moving disaster and Kirk is perfectly happy to sign a 1 year deal and get paid 24M to play for one year. The skins need to do something or they will lose everything this time next year (unless they are willing to tag again for 28-34 mil)

It just came out that Kirk would be happy to go to San Fran where he has his former coordinator.

The biggest problem is that not only could they lose Kirk, but 2 above average receivers and what do you think the head coach will do knowing that no one in the organization would listen to him when he wanted to keep Kirk.

The franchise tag was expected. All it really does at this point is ensure Cousins does not hit free agency. He is still able to be traded.

It does mean is that negotiations (on things like potential contract extensions) have to run through Washington - Cousin's agent technically isn't allowed to contact another team directly (though the rule is poorly enforced). But it does not take any trade possibilities off the table.

In practice, it means a trade is perhaps slightly less likely than before, but tagged players have been traded plenty of times before. The Chiefs traded for Matt Cassel when he was tagged by the Patriots. The Chiefs also traded away Jared Allen to Minnesota after franchising him.

Yeah, they just have to get Washington to comedown on the draft picks - the same team that traded 2 #1s for RG3 and I think they are going to want something like that back for Cousins

Ooh, ooh! Is the answer "get fired?" I'm going to go with "Get Fired!"

FINAL ANSWER!

Nah, he is near the end of his first contract. They will let him go too and blame him for everything.

and just to be clear, I like Kirk, but I do not think he is worth 2 #1s but that is why I am not a NFL GM.

Well they'll have to get over that, as the trade price for a veteran that you have to re-sign to a new long-term market deal isn't the same as the price for a draft pick that you get for 5 years at a rookie wage.

A 1st round pick swap, San Francisco's almost-a-1st 2nd round pick, and maybe a future 2nd or 3rd is fair trade value.

Or he can just go to the 49ers in 2018 for no compensation.

Yeah, I keep seeing 2nd overall and high 2nd mentioned. I think that's too much for my blood, but who knows what John Lynch is thinking.

Probably better than giving up the draft pick farm now with the risk of him bolting after the season because, you know, 49ers.

It would be with Washington's 1st round pick, #17, in return along with Cousins.

#2 and #34 for Cousins alone would be too much for a guy that's going to be a free agent next year.

oh god all i'm saying is if the 49ers could trade for blake bortles i would orgasm so hard my entire body would turn inside out totally worth it though

The Spring League is selling regular season tickets. On Eventbrite.

God I love these fly by night minor leagues.

Revis is being released by the Jets in one of the most obvious offseason moves around.

Did anyone mention Jamaal Charles was released by the Chiefs? Cause he was.

Charles is a 30-year-old speed guy whose had multiple major knee injuries; can't imagine he has much of an NFL future ahead of him. Hopefully he wound be delusional about his value to a team like certain other aging running backs who may or may not be named "Adrian Peterson".

Dammit, Ravens not using tag on Brandon Williams. Means they'll let him walk and recoup the conditional pick in the future or they'll bring him back if the market for him doesn't bear out. I'm completely not happy about this as they haven't been able to retain young studs for years now.

!Flacco!

The Draft is in Philly which means there will be epic amounts of booing.. I'm hoping to score some tickets.

Be sure to hold a sign about kickers or Bortles so we know it's you.

Yeah, an I Hate Brady sign would just blend in.

Patriots apparently aren't trading Garoppollo.

People are talking about A.J. McCarreon as a QB to trade for, which I find to be asinine.

If I were a team looking at adding a rotational back, I'd be a buyer in the Jamaal Charles market. Come to think of it, Jamaal Charles and Carlos Hyde might together add up to one healthy running back...

Kaepernick's agents say he's opting out of the last year of his deal as expected, and the Chiefs aren't expected to keep Nick Foles and his $6.4 million salary, sooooo.....

Cleveland will trade the #12 pick for him.

You should change your fantasy team's name to the Opting Out Kaeps.

I'm hoping he ends up on a team that plays at Wembley this year so I can be London Colin.

Might I suggest "#7adness"
