Does this mean the rest of us need to add that swanky new tag to our friends lists?

""We needed to win,"" Texans coach Dom Capers said, ""it was do or die.""

Right on the bubble for a playoff berth, the final third of the season proved to be make or break. ""We lose anymore than two games, and we''re done,"" Capers said.

The calm, cloudless Houston skyline betrayed the intensity of the moments to come versus the New York Giants. Having lost a close battle to Baltimore, Strahan and the rest of the G-men were prepared for retribution against the mid-level Texans.

Jonathan Wells, backup to Domanick Davis, had worked out vigorously the week before. While Davis would be the dominant carrier, it would not be uncommon for both he and Wells to be over the century mark.

One thing became clear early on: The hits hurt.

""I rolled out right and waited for Andre [Johnson] to come across the middle,"" quarterback David Carr said. ""The DEs pinched in, our blockers held the line, Jabbar [Gaffney] and Billy [Miller] were covered, so I just went for it. I had wide open space from here to the goal line.

""It was like a trap door."" Carr shook his head, as if the bells still rung. ""I think I tried to dive. Something. Whatever it was, I did the wrong thing.""

Carr was nine for fifteen, with 137 yards and two touchdowns. When the dust cleared, the score was 13 - 35, Texans.

""Despite the score,"" Capers said, ""it was a defensive game. There were a few points where a quick break from [Tiki] Barber could have changed the game, but our LBs were good about making sure he didn''t get away too far.

""Tatum Bell was one of our unsung heroes,"" Carr said. ""The guy was all over special teams and made the tackles he needed to keep them back. How he managed to block the point after attempt, I don''t think any of us will know, but we''re glad he did it.""

Bell evaded offensive blockers to tackle the kick holder before Steve Christie could ever make his attempt after a blown coverage led to an Amani Toomer touchdown.

""I thought we just had a bad start,"" Toomer said to reporters. ""We didn''t come off right, but after we scored I thought we were back in it. It was getting close to the end of the second [quarter], we would be getting the kick next half, we weren''t in that bad of shape.

""When they blocked the kick attempt, I didn''t know what to think.""

Michael Strahan was reached for comment, but grumbled something about ""his Female Doggo"" and drove off.

With one week left, the Texans fate is in their hands.

""We dug ourselves into a hole early on in this season,"" Capers said. ""But now we''re in a position to dig ourselves out of it. These guys have really turned it around to fight for the playoffs.""

On NFL Total Access, Jim Mora commented, ""Playoffs?! Are you kidding me?""

""This game was one of positioning,"" DE Gary Walker commented. ""Our D fought and put ourselves in a position to where our offense could fight for a score. I''m really proud of these guys. They dug deep and held on.""

[All in all, Cabbot - it was much closer than the score showed. All I have to say is that you have Ron Dayne - use him! =P]

I replied to you in another thread about playing tonight. I do want to say, though, that let''s move kickoff to about 11:15 Eastern. Have to register for classes online at 11:00 on the dot.

Sorry aboot last night Leg. I''ll try to get it straightened out today.

Ohhh... what happened?

He swapped gamertags and I didn''t get him invited into the league in time. Swampy, check your PMs.

I''ll get on LIVE as soon as I get home and mess around. Start a league, get them to NOTICE ME!

I also emailed tech support. My .net passport is definately linked. When I log onto X-box live using the passport it shows me logged in as SwampYankeeGWJ and I see all of you on my friends list.

Cool. Then I''m guessing all you need is to get that new tag logged into the 2k5 Xbox (vs. web) servers... Just go online and create a match should be enough.

Yeah, hopefully!

Warlock, any night after 9:30c (or by special appointment)...

Alrighty, Wednesday, 9:30 CST it is!

Warlock, I need to push us back about 30 minutes or so. I''m watching the kids alone tonight and they''re not doing a very good job going to bed. Sorry about that. If you can''t do it later, perhaps Friday

I will see you at 11am EDT Thursday Morning Stric - be gentle on me - I will just be getting up from my 2 hr nap after working all night.

This just in: Chiefs 2nd string beats Jags 2nd string. Fans demand ticket refunds.

No one has been found to take the Rams over? I hate the idea of not playing the last week of the season before packing my bags for my FIRST PLAYOFF GAME EVER!

Why''d the Chiefs have their 2nd string in? Congrats, Swampy.

Edit RE Rams: We can probabably find one of the coaches who are out of contention and in a game that ""doesn''t matter"" to take over the Rams for the final week.

Well, I had locked a slot, and didn''t want to get any of my key players injured. Which was good because Legion was playing to injure, and I''m pretty sure one of his guys brought a box cutter onto the field an slashed Jerome Woods.

Thanks. I don''t expect to get far against the other tams that have made it, but I''m glad to have made it nonetheless. I think it was the trades.

SpyNavy I didn''t see you online this morning so I went ahead and let the computer play for you. Unfortunately it lost 35-0, here is the final score and stats if you want to see how your team did.

Heh. I believe the Jags receivers to be descendents of the Wicked Witch of the West. When the rain starts dropping, so do they.

And you left your first-team offensive line in, and they mauled the fux0r out of my second-team front 7.

I was going to offer, but I then realized I''ll be playing SpyNavy, which isn''t (looking at his record) a game that does not matter. Someone else will have to take up the reigns on that one.

Maybe you could play your game against him, drop, pick up the Rams, and then play me? Honestly, up front you''ll be playing my second string but I promise to tell you lies and bad jokes. I''ll also have punch and popcorn.

Well I just checked next week''s schedule...

Cleveland @ Washington
Jacksonville @ San Diego
Kansas City @ St. Louis
New England @ Indianapolis
NY Giants @ Philadelphia
Green Bay @ Detroit
Houston @ Carolina
Pittsburgh @ Baltimore

...and, believe it or not, there''s not a single game that ""doesn''t matter"" as far as the playoff race is concerned. I guess maybe someone can double-up if necessary...

Note: I didn''t highlight PIT and SD but, depending on how WAS does this week, they may still have a shot at the postseason as well.

I would be willing to do both games, since that''s apparantly the only real option.

We might as well just give him the bye.

(Just kidding. Obviously, it will depend on how quickly you can get your game with PHI banged out. If it doesn''t get played until the deadline... We''ll work it out next week but thanks for volunteering. Thinking out loud, I think we might just give it to the first person that A) get''s the regular game played and B) volunteers.)

"Grumpicus" wrote:

That cuts me Grumpi. It cuts me deep!

But seriously. Yeah, it doesn''t matter to me if someone else plays it. I was just offering. Long as Swampy gets to play his game

It is all about me, after all. Glad you guys are finally seeing that.

Yikes I need some help. Here''s to Cleveland and Carolina (Psycho & LockNLoad) winning big to finish out the week!

Wait, I also need someone dominant to take over St. Louis, and then I need some of the other players at 8-7/7-8 to have serious hand injuries so they can''t play next week.

Ah, it looks sad for the Pack. Damn Certis and his silver-toed placekicker!

Texans finish strong in the finish, baby. Got to make the playoffs.
