The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild Catch All

I don't understand why they would have to put positive spin on optional additional content for a game. It'd be different if Breath of the Wild seemed anemic or unfinished, indicating they chopped out crucial bits to make the DLC, but has Nintendo ever done that? This is all due to gamers getting burned on crappy DLC and season passes, now making blanket judgements that those things are always bad.

Never understood the need to apologize or make excuses for DLC. As long as you get a "full" game that delivers value for the price who cares about optional content.

Well it doesn't help that there's not a lot of detail currently about the content in the packs. I'm sure that'll get fleshed out as they work on them but that certainly helps people make early judgements.

The key thing for me is what exactly "hard mode" entails.

This is part of it. The greatest backlash I've seen thus far is that hard mode is being held back. Should be noted that most of those are also folks that are action game fans that point to titles like Bayonetta 2 having multiple difficulties that remix enemy placements and a multiplayer mode for free, calling back to a time when additional game modes were bullet points on the back of the box. It's something I understand but at the same time recognize that we're making more complicated games now than we once were, and the scale of a game like Breath of the Wild means there's a lot more balancing you gotta work on than with a game like Bayonetta or Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden.

Even so, the positive spin is definitely there to make it sound like this is the best thing for consumers. If we're being honest, the best thing for consumers is to get this content for free once they've bought the game. But that's not necessarily feasible for a company to do, so the best you can hope for is a decent value.

I'm probably gonna snag the season pass the paycheck following the system's release, so I'm in either way.

Edge, Zelda: Breath of the Wild Review - 10

I've a feeling BOTW will bag 10's all over the place. Glad to see such a positive first review.

Booooooooooo... I'm hoping for more 5s to 7s so people will pass and just go play NieR.

I am curious how people will respond. I wonder if there will be a divide between Zelda fans and Skyrim fans because those are very different types of games.

I'm in big trouble this next few weeks. Horizon, Zelda, Mass Effect. Come on! Could have spread it out a little.

In that one actually has great gameplay & the other is Skyrim

I actually loved Skyrim for exploration purposes but the combat was a bit stale. I think Zelda will have great combat, enemy encounters that require different tactics as well as being way more responsive, extremely well thought out puzzles, superb physics & great animations. Add to that the world looks a joy to explore with tons of secrets hidden all over the place, plus climbing!!!

It was bad enough going back to Fallout 4 with that ropey, dated engine after playing The Witcher 3.

Oh, boy. That's encouraging considering I decided on Zelda as my one game purchase for the beginning of 2017.

Sorry Nioh, Horizon, Nier, Mass Effect, and Persona. We will have to dance another day.

It used to be the case that a perfect from Edge used to mean something. Now they're just handing out 10s like candy on Halloween.

Spoiler:

;)

More gold.

I doubt there will be a major review site that doesn't say it is great. That just doesn't happen to AAA tilted

I expect it to get stellar reviews, but cynically, it almost seems to have been crafted to get those scores. It seemingly combines every major trend of single-player gaming right now, wrapped up in a comfortable and familiar IP. It's The Legend of Zelda: On Fleek

Yes they cert didn't try to do something new. They seemed to take the current trends and put it in their IP. To be fair that is great for me but I don think anyone will describe it as "risky"

More Zelda hype train because that GIF always makes me happy:

Triforce Heroes is so underappreciated.

It really is. Not my favorite Zelda game, but it's among the most fun.

I play it with my two buddies whenever we get together. There's nothing like being in the same room with the other two players and just mashing that cheer-leading emote while one of them tumbles down a cliff.

Or taking advantage of the local-connection being weaker than WiFi to troll them.

Yes, but every Zelda game is hated by fans when it comes out and rehabilitated later.

Personally, I'm looking forward to everyone realizing Skyward Sword was actually great.

Personally, from the second I saw the first footage of this game I thought it looked amazing. Everything I've heard since makes me think it's exactly what I want from a new Zelda game and more. I can't wait until this weekend. Reviews... I really couldn't care less about them either way.

I'm curious for reviews because I'm somewhat worried the game is coming out hotter than how Nintendo tends to release games. Chris's post on the previous page from Bill Trinen kind of scares me in that regard, as does putting hard mode in DLC (with the caveat hard mode could be more than health adjustments, as mentioned).

I'm stoked you'll have access to all the tools you need after the first hour.

I hope that the open world at least points you in appropriate directions or else I'll be using a guide and a map for this one. I realize I might be in the minority for that.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to just picking a direction and exploring.

That's true. I guess technical issues are really the only use I have for reviews these days.
