Fire Emblem Catch All

Ugh... I dont think I have a setup that can handle the map or time to level characters that can.

My highest group is only 27. Struggled with normal. Don't think I'll even get to try hard before it's gone.

Probably better ways to spend my energy at this point.

Yeah, I have my doubts about hard. Even if I get my main team up to 40. Abel, Fae, Roy, and Lucina.

It definitely feels designed around having certain characters. Probably a good idea going forward to get as divers a group of toons as you can b

I blew through both first try.

I almost failed the Hard version when the archer and troubador brought Peri down to 1HP, but that was my own dumb fault for just throwing her out there first. Thankfully she didn't die, and then Sheena cleaned up house.

I assume you have a much higher team than I do if you blew through both. My highest level character was 30 and the rest were 26 & 27's.

My main team is all 35+ and all 5*. Even at 35 they still took damage, so it's definitely a tougher fight than the usual.

I feel like we should have a separate thread for Fire Emblem Heroes. Or else we should rename this thread. I appreciate all the renewed Fire Emblem enthusiasm, but posts like this are becoming like needles in a haystack. Anyway...

I just picked up Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and I wondered if people had any advice for who to work to level up.

I remember way back in the Sacred Stones that you kind of had to work to get Ross but when you leveled him up he was a great powerhouse.

Is there someone in Birthright that I just shouldn't miss using?

In my experience you either won't miss them (because they're super easy to recruit or you get them automatically) or they're not that impressive. I've only made it 16 chapters into either Birthright or Conquest, so I might be wrong, but so far Fates feels more like Awakening than the GBA games as you might expect.

One aspect of the modern 3DS Fire Emblem games is that they don't gate characters off the same way they did in the GBA games. Most characters, as far as I can tell, can be recruited by talking to them with the protagonist. And there are a few underleveled characters who become strong (Mozu comes to mind), but it's nothing like Ross from what I've seen so far.

That's a good point, the earlier games did have specific talk scenarios that you could possibly miss by not having someone in your army. I forgot about those. Hmm, maybe it's time to revisit the earlier games, are they on VC?

They're both on the Wii U VC. Honestly I re-purchased them a while ago on GBA and I play them on my PSP. Hopefully they release them on the Switch and I can get completely legit.

Hmm, I don't think I want them on Wii U VC. 3DS VC I'd be all over, so I'll wait and see as well.

I bought them on the Wii U as well. They're alright, but I prefer portable, obviously. I've double purchased them at this point, but the PSP is still better.

fates question

There's a 30-page long Fire Emblem Fates thread if someone wants to go deeper.

There's always one person in each of these threads saying we should post in the other thread. When you guys iron that out let me know.

Right, but wasn't this supposed to be the general Fire Emblem thread? And now it's a Heroes thread, basically. Even though we also have a Heroes thread we're not using.

I was trying to ask the question before just creating a "Fire Emblem Catch-All (this one for sure)" thread.

2 things I still don't understand in FEH.

How do I greet other players? You GWJers visit me all the time and I want to return the favor. Greet is not clickable for me.

How does "Defense" work in the Arena. I don't see a way to put in my teams for that.

PewpewRobo started a heroes thread but was told that we were all supposed to be in the catch all thread so it didn't go anywhere. (We tried to leave, but were told not to.)

I've read that you auto greet the first friend that greets you and you only get one greet a day. Most people see it greyed out because the first thing they do logging in is click on the friend that is greeting you.

No idea about Defense.

It tells you in the help for that screen. It uses the team in your first team slot for defense.

Ahhh! That makes sense as to why I get a lot of repeats.

Thanks.

I am starting on the actual game impressions and tips - which doesn't really start until page 8 or 9. Until then it is just all of us talking about how excited we expect to be for the game.

I know. I'm happy to create another catch-all. Just didn't want to step on toes.

I still like it, although less enthused now. I'm hoping Echoes dials back the love simulator.

I'm sure the next one will be called Fire Emblem: Waifus.

Don't forget Fire Emblem: Husbandos.

Pre-order bonus is a body pillow of the main character in relevant gender form.

The love simulator is one of the best parts.

Is this a Conquest / Birthright situation where it's the same game and those are the two halves?

I just hope the Switch planned one in ~ 2018/2019 is more like Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn. As aside, I had forgotten that I (for a short period) owned a Wii for RD -- was misremembering that they had both been on GC. Definitely waiting on a quality confirmation before throwing down that kind of money.

As to Echoes, if it doesn't sell well I can definitely see it going under the bus to the excuse of 'See, nobody likes the older style anymore'. Granted, that'd be completely ignoring the fact that there's probably a reason it never got ported over here years ago. Reading indicates that it couldn't decide if it wanted to be an RPG or JStrat game and was heavily watered down on both fronts.

I miss the older style of games. It's nice to have difficulty and units-survive options, but I find the result is a slightly less finely tuned experience. The early games were tense, interesting, and honed to a razor fine edge. A lot of the new mechanics, such as pair up and the increase power of support, have made the decision of unit choice less important.

To be honest when Heroes came out and it wasn't a full-on love simulator I was kind of shocked. They could have stripped out all the strategy instead.

If Nintendo were ever going to jump into the visual novel genre, Fire Emblem is the franchise they'd spin-off with.

I suppose it does me no favors that Awakening was the first time I really played Fire Emblem, but I feel like the support and relationship elements force me to consider my pairings more in order to ensure a good variety of units that all work together. Which units make up for another's weaknesses and such.

It's not a perfect system, as often enough you essentially halve your number of units since they must be paired to reasonably survive. Early on I just have units side-by-side so you get more attacks, but by the end it's just better to have them paired so you can avoid taking too much damage.
