Portland, Oregon Meetups

Sounds like fun. I could possibly join in if it was earlier in the week, but I've got stuff Thursday onward. If it's in Beaverton/Hillsboro I'd probably drive and could possibly pick you up tuffalo.

If you're still living in the same area you were and driving through/by Portland to get to and back from that area, that could work out well for me. I work downtown still, so I could meet up wherever. As long as I'm in Portland around 8-9, I can get the bus home.

Depending which day it is I might be able to go. My work is downtown so I could drive in and be a possible ride as well.

Let me know which night you settle on.

Stupid work didn't get my Trip ID yet, so I haven't been able to book for sure. But through our travel provider, the flights I was able to search had me getting in around 7pm pacific on Mon. So that could be late by the time I got to the hotel and checked in. Didn't seem to be anything earlier. Even leaving at 6am here ended up with a long layover.

So probably leaning towards Thurs. Training ends at 3pm so should be plenty of time for dinner and a few drinks.

I'll hopefully have something concrete figured out Monday so we'll have at least a week's notice.

Confirmed trip details yesterday. I don't get in until 8pm Monday night.

So looks like Thurs is the best night for me. As I said before training ends at 3pm that day. So we can meet up for food/drinks pretty early, at 5pm even. Maybe some 3DS gaming? Whatever.

I'll be at the Courtyard Marriott in Hillsboro, so you guys tell me where's a good close place.

My work has Thursday afternoon meetings weekly, so at earliest I'll be free at 4:30, so I can likely head out that way between then and 5.

Tuffallo, I'm just off 5th and Washington now , above Spella Cafe (we moved offices). I may try to figure out ahead of time where I'll park since I usually take the Max and maybe I can meet you at the garage.

You must be here already, Stele! I didn't realize time was passing so quickly. I have a new vehicle now as of today, believe it or not, so I can just drive to wherever Stele wants to meet up at 5ish on Thursday. I could also give anyone a ride from Portland if they want to carpool or whatever to and from Beaverton.

I'm looking for a good place to eat and hang out near the hotel, but I'm not seeing any GREAT options. There are mostly good Asian food places in that area of varying good to awesome degrees.

Do you have any interest in me going out and grabbing you in Hillsboro and driving into a place in Portland so you would get a chance to see the city and hang out in a fun place? I could leave work a bit early, and if you get done at 3, maybe I could pick you up at 4 and hopefully get back into Portland by 5 or 6.

I love and drink a lot of beer, but don't mix it with driving period just because I'd rather not deal with the whole questioning your sobriety thing personally, so I'd just stick to food, talk, and games. We could definitely hit up one of the breweries in Portland that's conducive to a small to medium-size group.

I could easily drive you back to Hillsboro and then head home to Sherwood which wouldn't be a completely out of the way return trip.

If you want to stick with restaurants in that area, the best places in my opinion are:

Nona Emilia's: (Heavy but ridiculously homey, delicious Italian food in a charming and cozy building)
Happy Panda: Some of the Best Chinese-American food I've ever had. Perfect if you have a hankering for that sort of thing.

I'm not sure about more pub type settings in that area unless you were to hit up chain type places. That's kind of why I was suggesting bringing you into Portland and being the DD.

Edit: Do you have Tri Force Heroes? That would make for some great local 3DS coop.

Arrived. Long flight, long train ride. Tired.

Can still discuss here where to meet or go for Thurs.

PM me for phone # for the actual day.

Welcome! Hopefully you're able to rest up well. It's always tough while travelling.

I do love Italian food. Had the hotel shuttle stop at Mod Pizza on the way to check in.

But yeah I'm cool with more of Portland. Saw a bit riding the red/blue line all the way out here but I'm down for more. Looks like the Trailblazers play Thurs night so consider that when picking a place, if there's arena traffic or whatever.

I don't have Triforce Heroes but I do have Metroid Federation Force. Need co-op to ever finish that.

I think the only multiplayer 3ds game I have is Smash Bros, but I'll bring it with me. Depending on when or where, I might be up to carpool, but no real need on my end. I'd eat most anything, but I'd be lying if I said the idea of getting food closer in to Portland wasn't appealing.

Traffic might be an issue because of the game. Honestly, I've been commuting via bus for so long that I'm rather out of touch with particularly bad traffic times.

What are your thoughts on Nona Emilia's or do you have any other ideas for places in the Hillsboro/Aloha/Beaverton area? It kind of depends on how many people too. At Nona's, we could probably just reserve a regular table or booth if there are only like 5 of us. If there are more, we might want to do a more pub like situation.

Who all can make it Thursday besides Skylarhalk, Stele, and me? I know DS and Rahmen are maybes. That's only five people max, so that would be pretty easy to do anywhere. Also, what's your vote for location and do you have any ideas? We're just kind of wondering how traffic might be if I try and go pick up Stele and bring him into downtown during rush hour on a basketball game night.

I have one other idea for an eating place if we do a small group. There's a Ramen place in Beaverton called Yuzu that's wonderful and better than any Ramen I've run into in Portland. I've only been once thanks to a friend and would love to go again.

I'll try coming up with a couple Portland places that might work well to meet up at.

If we went the pub style route with good food, beer, and a not too loud environment, I would probably say Hopworks Urban Brewery would be great (2944 SE Powell Blvd, Portland, OR 97202). Burnside Brewery is really good but a bit loud usually and crowded, so it probably wouldn't be a good option. Green Dragon might be good. I guess it got turned into Rogue Eastside Pub & Pilot Brewery (928 SE 9th Ave, Portland, OR 97214) now which is fine. Rogue beer and food is some of the best pub food around.

Those are the first two that come to mind for me. If anyone has better Portland ideas, let us know.

In the city is fine with me. I'll probably be sticking to Beaverton/Hillsboro for food tonight and Wed, so something different will be good.

Cool! Well, let us know if you are interested in anything in particular. I don't think traffic should be a huge issue, but there will probably be the usual stop and go stuff here and there. To avoid traffic, it might be easy for you to hop on the Max and then I could pick you up somewhere in Portland and drop you off in Hillsboro on my way home.

I can likely make it Thursday night.

I'll throw out one more option in roughly the same area of TuffaloBuffalo's but I'm good with anything.

I've never been there, so I'd definitely be good with trying out that place if it's what people want to do! Mostly, I'd rather do something on the East side of the river like that just because parking is a pain on the West side and the food generally isn't as good.

That looks cool too.

Also Triforce Heroes is $20 new at GameStop now. Not sure if I want to buy it just for one night but it's a possibility.

I'm down. I like the sounds of this place.

I grabbed Sushi Go and Hanabi at Target today so we could have something easy to play that doesn't take up hardly any table space.

What time would be best for you, skylarhawk (Choose your Tag Congrats!) and Rahmen. I imagine you'll want it to be right after work, skylarhawk, since you don't live downtown (or at least didn't). I'm thinking I can get Stele in Hillsboro and get to Teote around 5:30-6, but it's all gonna be traffic dependent. That's allowing for some stop and go, and I can leave work a bit early around 3. Since there's probably only 4 of us, I don't think we need to be super specific with time so long as we have a rough idea of what to shoot for.

Is DSG still in? Haven't seen any comment from him since the first one where he said he'd love to see people.

He might not even be in Portland at the moment. I know he's got a lot going on. Hope he can somehow make it because I haven't seen him in awhile!

Any time is fine for me and I live near by so it's easy for me.

A couple notes about Teote is it can get crowded but I'm hoping a Thursday night might be easier but the food is great. Also don't be confused by the small entrance as most of the tables are up stairs.

Yeah, I live way out in east county now, so I'm probably just going to head over after work. I'd guess I'll be there around 5:45/6. Best of luck in traffic and I'll see you there. ^_^

Lunch done.

Soon...

We have arrived. Grabbing a table upstairs

Just got on the bus. Should be there in about 15 minutes.
