Conan Exiles - Crush Your Enemies, See them driven before you!

oh yea, to get invited to the clan you have to meet face to face in game with someone.

Hopefully with more time, I wont die as often. I was able to get to a point where I created a mat and had a spawn point, but of course when you die you lose everythign and I went downhill from there.

I'll try to find someone tomorrow

I'd love a password too!
Edit: Sorted, thanks.

can't get on this morning. looks like there was a patch a couple hours ago the server hasn't gotten yet.

Ruh roh, I know it's early access but this is not promising.

This game is getting compared to Ark a lot, fairly I'd say. I had fun playing Ark, but one thing I'd always wished for is more PvE content. The world felt very empty when it was just a few friends and and island full of dinosaurs.

In Conan I ran into an NPC you could talk to. He didn't have much to say, but its interesting that the framework is there. (I think he was invincible too, because my friend saw him punch a crocodile to death).

The combat is a lot better than Ark too, though that might be damning the game with faint praise.

It's been awhile since i read a RPS article. I see that they're still just as hyperbolic as they were last time i read them and do as little as possible to push out a story. If they were printed i'd call them a rag.

Still it is early access and they're actively working on problems. Some full servers at launch were having issues, but they immediately patched the player limits and it was playable. There's still some lag on full pop servers, but it's definitely playable.

I'm busy wandering looking for the stones that tell the story.. the first one is easy to find, right on the road after your unsuccessful crucifixion. The second one is in the river underwater as you move up it toward the east side of the map, right around the two large statues that are holding pikes. I'm guessing they'll be introducing storytelling more as it moves toward later patching. At least, I hope that's the case.

I ran the update and restarted the server. Let me know if it is working now.

confirmed it works now.

The RPS article is pretty accurate as far as the performance went the first night.

The lag has been mostly cleaned up and as Ran mentions, it's quite playable. Since I've had the chance to climb the tech tree a little, I'll go as far to say that I'm actually surprised by the depth and even polish (!) I'm seeing in the interlocking systems.

Yes it's derivative, yes it's janky but the lessons they have learned from the likes of Rust and Ark are good ones and it's in way better shape than either of those games were in the early days as well.

As for the jank, I think Funcom has big plans for this and they seem to be gung ho about giving it robust support. There has already been 2 significant bug squashing patches since it launched 2 days ago.

I love anything Conan so I'd be bullish on it unless the game was a complete sh*tshow. It's not so I'm having good times and anxious to see where they take it, especially with the story stuff which would be a non-derivative thing to do in this genre.

I guess there was another update, server shows up as Invalid now

So could I and my son play on a local server by ourselves or would I have to rent a server and make it private for that to happen? Basically, is there a version of LAN play like a 7 Day to Die or Terraria?

Server was working this morning -

Learned a few things:

1) don't die in water that you can drink in. Your body becomes frustratingly unrecoverable.

2) Why in gods' names does crafting show up with like 20 produced goods? Trying to find the right one is annoying as all hell.

3) are we co-op at all? I don't mind sharing with others.

Everyone in guild can use other members items, but I basically don't mind sharing. Only exception is that if a high end resource is used it gets replaced or i get notified. I got hit with a building bug so i started on Outpost Bravo earlier than i wanted.

My t1 crafting stations in Outpost Alpha are also available for whomever to use, but dont laugh at my storage usage for them! So you dont HAVE to spend training points for them right away.

I think you can. You can invite friends to your local server for Coop. I assume 2-4 people would be the limit there. Not tried it myself.

Outpost alpha?

Yea it's my first base i built

If you look at the 2 small islands on the west side of the southern river. Goto the eastern edge of the 2nd one then go north you'll see it.

I settled in a spot in the east, about halfway up the map. It's in the mountains near a waterfall. I was hoping for easy iron access, but it turns out I'm in spider country. Every day is a fight with a hundred spiders. I've been making a lot of banners out of silk.

My Outpost Bravo is right in the middle of Coal/Iron deposits, but surrounded by hyenas and rhinos.

My first settlement is easy to see if you're north of the oasis, likely where ranalin put his up. Mine is in front of the yog worshippers temple and is the rather large complex. If you need iron bars aplenty and a fair amount of leather but farming bark is a pain in the ass. There are other facilities there for all the crafting as well.

I kind of wish this game had a map you could pin. That would be helpful.

And buzz, I'll trade all the iron and coal to you that you want if I can get silk. I'm kind of digging the hyrkanian bow.

I did also jaunt into the temple today, for yog cares only for the flesh and not whether it's one of his followers or not that is delivered to him. I'd had taken a screenshot if I weren't dodging about five billion arrows. I get tier three armor next level and it'll likely take me a couple to fill it out....

Not sure if this is a good place to set up a wheel -- beating those followers with my iron sword takes some work -- I'm not sure a truncheon is going to cut it.

Guys
How is the PVE content ? Do you think the game has enough content to be a open world pve survival game ?
I dont mind co-op to take down difficult enemies but am not interested in fighting pvp duels.
Do you use a mic or chat box with other players ?

there are a couple of us that have things set up in the last two islands in the southwest.

i finished building that tower to get up the to broken bridge only to discover at the last minute that you could get there already. wish i found the entrance the first time i looked, oh well at least its a lot shorter going up the tower :p

also looks like there were two patches in the last 12 hours. is there a way to auto update the server? at the rate they're putting out patches it's probably going to drive you nuts doing it manually every time.

i set up a local server on a VM on my network and it worked fine in terms of connecting and playing etc. The server software itself is still flaky and a pain to configure. I also have the problem where I can't connect to the admin interface in game which is annoying.

I would suggest just letting whoever has the better PC start the coop game and connect there vs setting up a separate server at this stage.

Server shows up as invalid for me - can't join. Thoughts?

there were 2 patches overnight, server hasn't been patched yet.

I setup a scheduled task to update the server every hour as long as the server is not in use. So if people are on with an older client it won't update. I set it up to force an update and restart at 6am EST every day. I hope this reduces down time. If Funcom were to schedule releases at consistent times this would be easier.

they did post something today about not releasing stuff in the middle of the night, etc. hopefully that'll help.

The server hasn't been showing up for me in searches for the last two days- has the name changed or is there some new option in the server list that I'm missing? It was working fine initially.

The server browser is flaky. You have to refresh a few times to get it to work sometimes. A trick I have been using is.

1. Right click Conan Exiles in steam
2. Select Properties
3. Click Set Launch Options...
4. Paste "+connect 208.66.79.34:7783"

Then every time the game starts it should try to connect to the server. If it fails it brings you back to the main menu.

I created an account for Ranalin to be able to update and restart the server as well so if something is wrong and I am not on try messaging him. We can add more people in the future if needed.

.

i've had good luck in Steam going to View->Servers and saving it as a favorite there. You can launch the game right into that server from there. no having to load the server list, etc.
