Idle F***in' Thumbs Podcast

Today's first 20 minutes of the Twitch stream is pretty funny.

Thanks for this

Oh wow

That is the best.

Did they say, "Great stuff" when they saw him?

There it is.

Nice! Demyx got me a Coldblum for Xmas this year and hid it in our tree, best gift.

I don't know how I missed Mouth Sounds when it came out, but if you somehow made the same mistake, you should probably go correct your error now.

Downloading for the train ride tomorrow. Hey, he's Lemon Demon. I am as out of touch as Jake.

Instead, I have much more niche things with which to occupy myself, like: now that the Idle Thumbs pod is officially branching out from video games, what does mean for the new theme which, if history is any indication, will be coming next week? Games, video games, long form TV, contemporary lit, robot news, Jeff Goldblu — u — u — um

The Thumbs have started going through the latest Wizard Jam games and i'm only about halfway through their first stream and one of the games called Pizza Tonight is just utterly perfect. Starts at 1:17, goes until about 1:25 (embedded time doesn't seem to be working, sorry). Just watch, it's beautiful.

That was awesome. Let us know of any other gems, I'm not going to have time to watch the whole thing anytime soon.

If anyone loved Pizza Tonight do also play that person's game from the last jam - Shoot that Pizza. Both are a tour de force.

Idle Thumbs is over.

What?!?

I haven't seen the news yet, but I can guess what's happening. And to be honest you could see it coming for a while now. Everyone on the podcast is more socially aware and more interested in other pursuits besides video games. They're busy making video games and real life has a way of butting in on the hobby.

I'm guessing they're starting a new podcast with a different focus?

But it's coming back (again). They explain in today's episode, but briefly: episode 300 is forthcoming at some unknown future date, and it will be the last episode of Idle Thumbs as we know it. There will be some podblasts in the meantime. After episode 300, Chris, Jake, and Nick are going to launch a new show with a new feed, all about whatever Idle Thumbs is about now.

f*ck Chris, congrats Nick. Everything is upside-down.

Edit: Yeah, what DSGamer said.

Why are we f*cking Chris? I haven't listened in a long time.

Last episode they announced they were going to move away from just video games with the occasional tangent and do more general pop culture stuff, so I guess it makes sense to start fresh.

I had started listening again recently through youtube because the timestamps made it convenient to skip sections or games I wasn't interested in. Having the original 3 casting together was good and when they had played games to talk about I really enjoyed listening to them again. In particular I get a lot of listening to what Nick has to say about games.

I can't say I'm all that interested in a pop culture stuff. I enjoyed when they'd talk occasionally about a non-video game thing like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy or the more recently Jurassic Park but I'm not sure it's something I'd want all the time.

Hmmm, that's a bummer. I'll probably listen to whatever they're doing next, but I'm going to miss their hot takes on games. No one talks about games the way that they do, particularly Remo.

I'll keep listening to whatever they do. I'll miss the focus on games talk, but it will still be there and as insightful as ever. And this new format basically means more tangents. Looking forward to the first episode of Oops All Tangents.

Oh, I haven't listened to the last couple episodes yet. If they're still talking about games, just less often, that's cool. I thought it was implied that they were abandoning them entirely.

I wouldn't imagine they would abandon it entirely. I assume if they all get stoked about the Switch they'll talk about it. But last episode Christ mentioned that he was starting to view playing games for the podcast as a bit of a chore. Good for him for realizing it and making a life adjustment.

I think it was last week they said they don't want to feel obligated to play games to have something to talk about on the 'cast, which takes the fun out of it. So there'll still be games talk, just when they have something to say.

Edit: Yeah, what DSGamer said. Again.

I've started to care less about 'gaming only' casts. . . I listen to IT for 'Robot News'!

Yeah, this actually makes me look forward to the new cast more. I don't really listen to gaming podcasts anymore given how few games I actually play (though I do play a lot of those few games), so I'm looking forward to the non-gaming material from the crew.

I'm two weeks behind on the eps, but that's a bit of a bummer. Understandable but disappointing.

However, this makes me concerned for Idle Weekend which I feel like already fills the 'let's just talk about pop culture for an hour' niche. I really hope this isn't a sign R&D are packing up their show.

R&D are both on waypoint now though?
I had hoped when i heard the news that they were spinning off a pop culture episode and keeping the gaming one but alas. Get my culture from other podcasts and my games from thumbs so i'm not sure what to do now! Maybe i'll try waypoint or see what daft souls are up to now.
(i didn't really enjoy ep 299 which was their first official foray into non-gaming).

Rob Zacny has not joined Waypoint.

Ah!
