Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Catch All

So yea... Whomever gifted me the key... Please let me know so i can send some beer your way?

Count me in the crowd that didn't get in.

Maybe they'll do an open beta at some point and I can kick the tires then, but it seems unlikely given how close we are to the release.

Lucky!

Yeah no invite either. Bummed

Grats man!

Still a chance for open beta. For Honor is having one within a few days of release.

I'm pretty shocked the keys were so limited. This is the first time I haven't been in a Ubi beta since...well since they started doing them.

Looking on the website it said there was no NDA am I right? I'm very wary of such things.

Folks are streaming on Twitch and I think the FAQ said no NDA.

Great thanks. In that case:

My early impressions are surprisingly favourable. If I'm honest I was going in to this demo with low expectations and, in my mind, I had decided that I'd probably play for an hour or two and then delete it to go back to the other Ubisoft open world games I'm currently engaged with but I'm going to play this over the weekend and I'm probably going to play single player rather than team up with people.

I've been a fan of the Ghost Recon games since the start and there are a few things I associate strongly with early Ghost Recon games over and above the exquisite tension of moving methodically through an open environment straining to spot targets and hoping you don't suddenly die from a bullet to the head:

1. Fighting through dense undergrowth and trees and desperately trying to pick out targets.
2. Green night vision. No other night vision variant has ever been as cool to me.
2. Being shot at and even killed without ever seeing the person shooting at you (see 1.)
3. Having your fellow A.I. Ghosts call out targets and even take out targets when you didn't see them
4. One shot kills.
5. Fighting from longer ranges. My very first shot was at very long range (comparatively) with a silenced pistol and the guy died instantly.

I'm delighted to report that all those things are present. It feels like Ubisoft went back to those early games and picked out what made them special.

I'm fascinated that so many commentators are giving the impression that the game doesn't really work well when playing solo. I can see that, if you have four mates and they all want to play the way you do, then it would be fantastic but, right from the first little encounter, I found the single player to be very 'early Ghost Recon' and therefore fun in a slightly masochistic sort of a way. If, like me, you see Ghost Recon at it's best as the slowly and methodically clearing out an area, with the constant danger of a quick death looming over you, then the solo play is very satisfying.

Hey uh maybe they still had some more codes. Check your e-mails.

I've been watching some streams, and it could be due to the streamers, but something feels like it's missing or off. Firefights don't seem as intense as they probably could/should be. Again I am not sure if this is a streamer issue or not. I know I don't like the two rifle thing because I feel like that takes away from authenticity as well as it diminishes some of the tactical aspects and tension. Another streamer effect could be that they are just moving through the quests and seemingly not needing to make a decent plan - which is not something you could do very often in GRs 2001-2006.

I see a lot of comparison to FarCry+Division, which is worrisome since I bounced off both of those game. I guess I was hoping more for GTA5+Ghost Recon 2001+GRAW.

Definitely would like to hear more of your impressions during this weekend since you have been playing them from the start, I stopped after GRAW2. I am trying to see if it's something I want to buy two copies (for me and my son), have fun for 60+ hours, and not feel like I have to push myself to play. I guess that's the risk of any game nowadays.

I would like to point out that I watched Kinda Funny play this, they're garbage at games and they were taking a LOT of bullets so at least for that aspect this isn't like past ghost recon games.

Got 3 invites. Let me know if you need a code.

Yes, sorry you do take more bullets on regular mode but you do die pretty quickly (I don't know if Kinda Funny had it on easy.) In the harder modes it's one shot deaths.

Wow, thanks to you, this game just skyrocketed into the first position in my "should I buy it?" list.

Will this game be enjoyable for 2 people? How will it work with the AI teammates? I hope each of the human players is able to control 1 AI.

This can potentially be tons of fun for me and my son. Speaking of which, how much swearing and gore is in this game?

Huh. Guess I spoke too soon. I got an invite email at about 5am this morning.

I haven't seen anything in my email yet, but if I do, I will probably have to take a really long lunch.

Ditto, got mine at 5am (PC)

To be clear, the game isn't exactly the same as those first Ghost Recon games. I'm sure it's more accessible and forgiving but I'm surprised how close it plays to my memory of those games.

Not sure about who controls the other A.I if there is two of you. I've mostly been ignoring them and they are fine. Interestingly, when being stealthy, only one guy follows you closely. The others seem to hang back. I think that's a smart choice. I'm going to look into seeing how to use them better.

Interestingly, I hit 'open fire' at one compound and, rather than just staying close to my position and firing, the A.I. moved forwards into the compound and started taking out enemies ahead of me.

I'm pretty sure my main character said, 'S**t balls' during a fire fight at one point (which endeared me to her enormously) so there is swearing. There is also swearing in the cut scenes. There is a little puff of not particularly red blood when people are hit. There have already been mocked up photos of bodies and references to torture. Unfortunately, I suspect there could be references to some of the horrendous things the cartels are known to do in cut scenes, etc.

Im still looking for a PC or PS4 code. Preferably PC. Save me one!

Same.

The difficulty differences is something I didn't know about, and I think it's pretty awesome. Good to hear it's there.

Having played some more it looks like you will get very powerful, with all kinds of abilities at your disposal. You'll be able to play sneaky and methodical or go in guns blazing.

optimistic remembered his ol' pal *Legion*! Thanks, dude!

Higgledy, thank you for all your answers!

If anyone has an used code nearby, I would appreciate a PC code as well!

I got halfway through creating a character and suddenly it stopped responding to changes. The server activity spinning circle symbol thing came up, never went away, and leaving the game basically killed windows. Couldn't bring up task manager, open a browser, or basically do *anything* with the PC. Won't even let me restart the PC.

Fun times.

So I still haven't played the actual game yet

It stopped accepted changes for me so I just continued on and it loaded the game just fine. You can change your clothes and stuff at ammo boxes.

I'd love a code if someone has an extra or gets accepted late.

Also, for those who are playing how intense does combat feel?

Make sure to update your drivers. AMD released an update a couple days ago to support the beta.

I would love a pc code, if anyone has one available - unless the beta expires before Sunday night, which is when I will be able to play. I've already preordered the game, but the chance to play early sounds awesome.
