Star Wars Misc. Catch-All

Wow, no way, can't believe that's actually happening. In a good way, of course.

The gifs in the comments are summing it up nicely for me.

That looks like a password you'd type to continue your Metal Gear game on the NES.

It'll do I guess. Can't say it's that exciting.

Look, this is a franchise called Star Wars. None of the titles are exciting.

I kind of thought the Phantom Menace was a cool title.

I'll grant you that one is the closest they've come to exciting, and it doesn't really make much sense for the film.

Ever been harassed by a ghost? The movie's actually an origin story about how Qui-gon won't leave Obi the f*ck alone. Shame that part of the plot didn't come up much.

With all the bullsh*t unnecessary changes Lucas made for special editions, why didn't he ever replace that incorrect plans graphic with the dish in the center of the equator?

Speaking of The Phantom Menace, a question: what was the "trade dispute"?

I mean, I've had discussions before where it was pointed out that trade disputes are not the most thrilling things to base an adventure story on. But on the other hand, I've watched some compelling television about what were, essentially, trade disputes. They had more logic behind them, though, and actual emotional stakes for both parties. What did the Trade Federation actually want? Why didn't Naboo want to give it to them?

The Republic wanted to tax the Free Trade Zone. The Trade Federation was pissed at that idea because it's a free trade zone. Palpatine was playing both sides - egging the Trade Federation on to be more militaristic and petitioning the Republic to pursue the tax policy. Why Naboo? That's where Palpatine was based.

Wait, what does invading Naboo and then hiding that it was an invasion get them?

Palpatine wants a humanitarian crisis to go unanswered as long as possible so he can force the no-confidence vote in the senate. The Trade Federation are just portrayed as gullible and greedy and go along with pretty much anything.

edit: no it's not remotely obvious. Because the prequels are a hot mess.

As long as someone, somewhere thought that through.

Really, TPM is trying way too hard to be clever. It's a double-secret Sith plot where they do exactly what he wants! The Queen switched places! This kid is going to be special! The mentor dies (at the end where it doesn't matter for the plot)!

Some of that stuff could have worked if they were more straightforward with it. Really, the only actual twist in the whole saga is in Empire Strikes Back. There's some questions and reversals (Will Luke defeat the Emperor? Who is Yoda?) but the films have nearly all of their cards on the table all of the time.

This right here is why the internet is wonderful.

Fails the Scooby-Doo test:

Scooby-Doo and The Last Jedi.

Crossposting from "Post a video" thread.

Where is that going to be at?

Planet Coaster!

We still have two spots open for a Edge of the Empire RPG sessions we are going to start soon. Let me know if you have any interest. Target play times will be on a weekday between 8pm-midnight EST.

Thrawn is out tomorrow and I can't find a review of it online yet.

Oily, I was looking earlier too and couldn't find anything. Definitely looking forward to this and Rebels did a good job with him.

Spoiler:

I'm also interested if they cover the time period Palpatine sent him off to unexplored space as mentioned in the Aftermath Trilogy and what he found - possibly Snoke related.

Yeah, I might just buy it. I haven't decided yet.

I should have it from Overdrive from the library at release (I'm #4 on 10 copies). I'll either get to it this week or next most likely.
