It's your oh-so-timely PAX South 2017 organizational thread! Yay! Check for updates on this main landing page, otherwise, happy posting!
Thursday Jan 26 Slap&Tickle
5pm--Happy Hour at Tacos & Tequila (SA) located at The Mosaic, 1915 Broadway St. The Mosaic has an internal ramp with public parking.
7pm--board & video games at PewPewRobo & Beldera's (walking distance from TNT).
RSVP--Please PM PewPewRobo indicating which parts of the event you plan to attend. This will help make the appropriate reservation at TNT, and will allow PPR to contact you with important details about the games event (like how to get there and where to park). Thanks!
GWJ @ PAXS
Twitter: #GWJPAXS Last year web access in the con halls was spotty at best. Twitter was by far the best way to coordinate with disparate people whose contact info you might not have handy. I suggest the preceding hashtag to filter open discussions to coordinate game sessions or meals. I don't use twitter for anything, but I will for this!
Slack: I've not used Slack other than coordinating around #gencon, but if folks want a Slack channel, well look for it here!
Not sure who to look for in the open tabletop gaming area? See if you can spot Momgamer's awesome GWJ Flag; it may not be flying at all times, but you can be sure good games can be found where and when it does!

Getting hyped!
Never post from an elevator!
Looks like my badge got sent to my old house. Hopefully I can get it, or else I'm out $100 once I arrive in San Antonio getting a replacement... blah.
Landing is at 4:33 local, so I'll probably bounce to the hotel real quick to drop off my craps and head out to the S&T.
Pass in hand and ride down on Thursday secured. Should be there in time for the S&T.
Scythe and Duke are on my to do list... As well as the Acq Inc Live show and chasing down Chris Perkins for an autograph. I'll walk the floor looking through the indie games and the VR. I think the only other thing on my list is painting mini's.
What are everyone else's plans?
If you're around, that'd be awesome. No big deal if not, though.
Have badges actually gone out to people yet? I have no idea if they'd even have been delivered to the old house, and the new tenant over there is nonresponsive to the landlord. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll get forwarded.

Had mine for a bit at this point.

If you have specific games you'd like to try, and none of us own, you might try the official PAX South forums. Worked for me last year with Blood Rage.
Hmmm ok. I will look into it.
Whew, nearly forgot about RSVPing. I'm so excited about attending a Slap n' Tickle event after the GWJ meet up fallout that is PAX Prime [West].
I think I'll be attending the panels for giving pointers on how to GM better. And I very much would like to get in on trying out the Nintendo Switch while I'm there, even though those lines are bound to be ridiculous.
I need to check with a few different folks before RSVPing, but at a minimum at least three of us will be at the apartment for games!
Yes Good Times are always had at the GWJ PAX South pre-conference gatherings!
T minus 8 days!
(I'm part of the RSVPs Fed was referring to, I believe)

I don't know this person.
So they have one of those walkthrough dungeon things and Adventurer's League going as well. I end up being the DM too often these days just to get games going so it will be nice to play.
I am getting pretty excited.
I'll be in the AFK Room Saturday as well, from 11-2. Appears there was some overlap on volunteers. Come chill out and visit.
For a while there it was dicey, but I, and the flag, will be at South. I hope to see you all there!
Looking very likely that three of us will make TnT as well as the party. Trying to sort out a couple people who aren't coming from Houston for a final count.

Okay, I have spoken to all my peeps, and it looks like we will have four for TnT and the party.
Howdy, I'm a bit of a lurker on the forum, so I can't do PM yet. If it's not too late, I'd like to RSVP, it'll be two of us at the TnT and the party afterward.
I'm interested in *seeing* the Nintendo Switch in person, but I don't need to wait in line to play on it myself.
The VR Freeplay looks really interesting, hoping the lines on Friday for it will be reasonable, otherwise might have to wait for Sunday. Also hoping I can keep my lunch down while playing.
I've enjoyed the indie showcase for the board games before, usually end up buying one. Probably try to get there early enough so we can get some play time in.
What's the best way to play/learn Scythe? Board game freeplay? Or is there likely to be some area where I can learn from someone who's played before?
Haven't spent enough time with the schedule to check out the rest. We're meeting friends there at random times, so my schedule will be aligning with them too.
Howdy
Aggie?

Manta is also hoping to try Scythe. If any PAXers from GWJ own it, they haven't spoken up. There might be a copy in PAX's collection as they get games pretty quickly and it's been out for a good while now, but it might be hard to get your hands on. Even if you do, you'd still need someone to know how to play it (you could probably look up the rules now and read through them).
But here's what I did last year (and what I told Manta) - Go on the official PAX forums and find a thread about board games. Ask in there if anyone is willing to teach you Scythe. Last year, that worked for me with Blood Rage.

No commitments yet, but here is the thread and they say meet-up can typically be had via twitter.
There's also a big dry erase board at the board game check-out where you can post notes, btw.
I played Scythe maybe six months ago at a Meetup.com group and was blown away with the components and art. I'm not sure I was wowed by the actual gameplay, but I'm not much of a Eurogamer.
