I'm really hoping for Dykes to the Rams to become a thing.

Too bad Kiffin is taken. What about Alabama's new OC?

I think Cal just got sick of Dykes' annual song and dance about going back to Texas. Despite a pretty bad record, every year he was interviewing with some school in Texas. This year Baylor and Houston came calling. He has never made a secret about wanting to go back home. The press conference on his release this afternoon basically repeated the words "We want someone committed to Cal", which is certainly hinting that Dykes was always looking for a way out.

Chip Kelly certainly seems to be the sexy name thrown about but I don't see it. Even if Cal can get him for cheap because the 49ers would be paying most of his salary, that won't last forever. I think the good money is Jake Spavital being named HC for a modest raise (he was named interim) or former Cal DC Justin Wilcox coming back as HC.

Dykes did some amazing things for Cal's football program culture and academics, and the restrictions on Cal's football recruiting are only going to get harder. Unfortunately the season ticket base was dwindling. A recent WSJ article highlighted that Cal has the largest fiscal deficit of all athletic departments int he country. The state of CA isn't going to foot that bill so the school needed to do something to kick start revenue. Who knows if some big donor is footing the buyout, but there is a long road ahead to start righting the ship from a fiscal standpoint.

We'll see.. while most Cal fans are probably relieved, there's still a lot to figure out.

So I guess I need to pick Clemson. I can't imagine anyone not picking Bama to roll.

Really? I know most people (myself included) think Bama will win, but I don't hear many claiming that they are going to roll. Most think it will be a close game.

I am rooting for Clemson, sure (more of an "Anyone but Bama" (sorry mantas and grumpicus) thing than ACCACCACC) and hoping for an exciting game (after the NFL gave us 4 duds yesterday), but I don't think that either team will run away with it.

Roll Tide from Tampa!

I think it is going to be a good game and that there won't be near as much scoring as there was last year.

I hope we drive home just as happy as we were last year!

Yay! My random guesses were the best!

Hope you have a good (but not great ) time. Enjoy the game!

Raymond James is a pretty good stadium so have fun

Yea last time they met it came down to an onside kick right? I'm expecting more of the same, a real grinder of a game.

I'm rooting for Bama, but my gut feeling is that Clemson is a favorite unless Bama's offense has made major improvements compared to the Washington game.

Yeah, having a baby will do that to you...

Fedaykin98 ladies and gentlemen...

Spoiler:

I'll admit, I laughed. (I have 4 kids)

Hell of game here the final 4 minutes.

Sorry, WoM. Hopefully y'all have enough personal joy right now to not be too disappointed.

Whoooo! Congrats Clemson!!!

Heck of a game again between those two, I would say we need a rubber match but I don't like either of the schools, so f that.

Got it wrong. Helluva finish.

What. A. Finish.

Regardless of who you root for, at least 3 of the last 4 Championship games have been great games.

Congrats Clemson. Now, F Clemson.

(They are our rivals after all...)

Probably will be a more memorable finish than the Super Bowl.

That game delivered!

That being said, something may need to be done at some point rules-wise about pick plays like that final TD play. The Clemson QB even explicitly described it as a "pick play" in his interview on the field immediately following the game.

I'd just had a conversation with my wife earlier in the 4th about pick plays and why they were illegal.

Many analysts pointed out immediately after that Bama should have just tackled each receiver until Clemson ran out of time to do anything other than kick the field goal. They would have burned clock in exchange for half the distance, which was tiny at that point.

Indeed.

That... is a really excellent point, actually. Huh.

Are they though? Think that is the problem, sometimes they are and sometimes they're not.

It's technically illegal, but the problem is it's pretty easy to design something that functions as a pick without it being a straight up block of a defender before the ball is thrown.

Posting from the road. It was a good game and we had a lot of correctable issues to work on for next year. WifeofManta and I are both OK with the loss... Better to lose to Dabo than any other coach out there these days.

I think the officiating was a little poor, but not agregious. Jalen needs some more practice on what to do when things are tough and how to save a play without diving into the pile. Our receivers needs to not drop so many balls, and the penalties were painful.

I'm a little surprised he called it a pick play to the press. But hey, maybe the Bears will draft him and he can do that stuff for me instead of against me.
