Rollercoaster Renaissance - Planet Coaster, Rollercoaster Tycoon World & Parkitect

oops

This game is amazing! I wish they would include a record function so that we can share videos of our creations instead of having to rely on 3rd party utilities.

I love the coaster building tools and the terrain sculpting:

Anyone had audio distortion while playing Planet Coaster? The sounds/music are fine in the main menu, but when I load up a scenario and start moving the camera, the audio sounds stuttery and similar to what you'd hear if sound was playing through overloaded speakers or something. This is the only game this occurs, though. I found a few inconclusive posts about this game and Elite Dangerous, which I guess uses the same engine, but nothing definitive. The framerate is fine too.

For those of you playing Planet Coaster, how is it if you're more into general park management and not so much building extravagant coasters? I do like building an occasional big coaster but I'm more into building a park with a big assortment of dark rides, classic carnival rides, shows and the like as well as coasters. It seems like this game lets you do that.

I haven't had any audio issues at all throughout Alpha/Beta/Release, sorry :/

You can. I don't even like coasters in real life so I tend to focus on the Rides/scenery/shopping areas more than the coasters, although you obviously do need coasters in your park at some stage. There aren't any included pre-build Dark rides, but you can have fun building your own, or utilising the Workshop for someone else's creativity if that's more your thing.

One thing that is missing from all three Theme Park games in this thread, is side-shows. I mean like hooking a duck, or shooting moving targets etc. None of the games have them, sadly. That, and actual shows like the 'Cowboy Show' from the original Theme Park from Bullfrog. Missing But I guess the vast majority of the audience that go for these games are mainly there for the coasters.

They have that monster coming out of the water in the trailer. That seems like a side show. Or is it something created with the builder?
If they have added the ability to animate objects you create that is incredible.
He seems too much like a set piece though.

Oh, you can build your own dark ride? That's neat.

Aww yeah, it's too bad none of these modern theme park sims have that. I loved watching the little people play at the shooting galleries, and shows are essential to a real theme park.

How is everyone doing with their designs? Planning to start work on "Cape Carnival" this weekend...

I've been making a western themed park but it's taking soooo long as I fuss over all the details. I'll try and post some screens in the next couple of days.

Man, it's like between Planet Coaster and Elite: Dangerous, Frontier can't make a bad game. PC looks amazing.

I've been trying to learn how to build stuff and managed a pony express / atm building. I've placed it on the workshop just cause.

I like it. I've been trying to place those second floor balconies in a couple of my own buildings, but I can't figure out how, or maybe I can't find the right build item. How did you do it?

That's actually one of the few criticisms I have so far- I wish there were more filters.

In case anyone else was having difficulty grok-ing placement of priority pass entrance and exit. This provided an A-HA moment.

I had no idea when I bought this game that the Blueprints on Steam Workshop were all things people had made and could upload in-game. Once I figured that out about five hours in, it was a revelation. There's such great variety in what you could build.

Just came to say this... I've been humming the theme tune to planet coaster all day. Can't get it out of my head!

The balcony decking is listed as such. I'm not sure under what filter I found it though. Western / Rustic I'm fairly sure.

As for placement, if I remember correctly I would use the "F" key to center the piece both horizontally and vertically on the wall, then open the axis move button and drag it down on the vertical axis for placement. It can get wonky as pieces don't always line up exactly and some fudging must be done (I had to overlap some of the balcony railing at the corners to get them right).

One thing I really love about the Steam Workshop in this game is that you never have to leave the game! Just shift+tab to bring up the Steam overlay, click workshop, browse & download and whatever you picked appears right in game. You don't need to refresh the game, or leave the map at all. Makes finding that just right item super easy and painless.

Man this is looking really, really nice, and all of your impressions aren't helping me resist.

I briefly tried challenge mode earlier but got frustrated within 10 minutes because I couldn't afford the track for the rollercoaster I wanted. Back to sandbox mode for me. Absolutely no challenge, aaaaaaand I think I'm ok with that. I'm really treating this as a chill out creative outlet.

The coasters are definitely expensive in challenge mode, at least at first. Of course, you can always cheese it by just setting the time to fast-forward. But I try to avoid that.

In career mode, where does stuff you select in the Workshop show up?

Super helpful video from someone who works in gaming as an artist/animator.

In the main blueprints, I think it's the first button on the left.

Yeah, the camera toggle alone might have saved me an hour of gameplay had I known. Thanks for the link.

Unless I'm going crazy, I'm not seeing stuff I subscribe to from the workshop show up in career mode. I'll check again, but is it possible that assets are locked in that mode?

Yeah, all the Blueprints are locked up in career. I'm researching stuff.

There is a free winter update out. I haven't messed around with it much, but it seems to have lots of improvements beyond adding the new rides and scenery.

Read about it Here

I've just spent about five hours designing a food court - getting paths to work on the second floor is a real challenge and do not recommend it unless you really want to get into the nitty gritty. This game is going to take up all of my vacation time.

On the plus side my 4 year old loves riding the roller coasters and other rides - I was on the fence about buying an Oculus a few weeks ago (decided to wait for a few months) - if I could ride the coasters in VR I would have been sold.

The Winter Update has me excited, it looks as if they are going to be continually adding new things: coaster types, shops, rides, and I hope eventually game booths.

I like the first person ride views, though. The one with the flipping planes is just wild.

Just got Planet Coaster. What is the best way to learn how to play? I don't see a tutorial. Only tutorial videos. Are those worth watching?

As usual, YouTube is your best bet. Also scroll up and check out the video posted by RooksGambit. Personally I watched videos by a YouTuber called ctop, but I do find the controls are mostly quite intuitive.
