EVE Online - Catch All & new meat check-in

I got accepted into Eve University, I've closed up shop in Gallente space and moved to Amarr in anticipation of joining the Mining Campus there. Looking forward to some far more lucrative fleet mining, as well as other operations.

As part of December's Rhea release, clone upgrades and skill point loss on death will be completely removed from the game.

wait what?! completely missed this tidbit earlier, that certainly makes the prospect of getting wtf gank-podded without any chance in hell less horrifying. Guess I should have paid more attention to those countless COME BACKKKKKKK emails when Rhea was being released.

This was important when buying expensive clones was a serious isk drain. At about 65m SP, it cost me about 50m isk to upgrade my clone to a sufficient level to prevent any losses. If I recall correctly, they changed it in favor of just having Omega clones, which wouldn't lose skill points as long as you paid after each death, and it wasn't nearly as expensive.

I wonder if this also affects dying in a T3 cruiser, which (again, if I recall correctly) would drop you one level in the special skill that you needed to fly a T3 cruiser in the first place. But that was a few years ago, and I could see them getting rid of that as well.

EVE is now officially free to play.

People going on PVP roams through FW space for the next few days may have to take a number and get in line to shoot at the new Alphas.

It'll be interesting to reactivate my old account.

I reactivated mine a couple months ago after three years sober and the skill queue was still all there, waiting for me.

I couldn't remember how to change direction in space and took off a couple times with hybrid ammo in the hold and projectile turrets on the hull, but other than that it's been mostly smooth.

Shoot I thought I had more time... I'll have to reinstall tonight.

Yeah I installed yesterday so it was easy to pop in for a bit today. I need to look at some settings because it seemed real slow on load times but man there are a ton of changes since I last played.

Just a reminder to new or returning pilots,

As a friendly service to the cool people still playing the game, here are the GWJ chat channel details. Say hi and get the GWJ gift basket, which make the early game way more pleasant.

Channel is called 'GWJ' Password - 'gwjeve'

So please join in! I don't know if the GWJ gift basket offer is still valid - I'll chip in a few m-isk though if you ask nice

Ok, I'll log in tonight assuming I can remember my info.

With a character that was somewhere in the range of 3-6 months developed for military (I think I had a Hurricane...it's hazy) when I quit. Should I start a new one or revive the poor guy?

That was back when training was based on time, so I assume he still has some value.

You're probably best off just trying to recover the old character. Training, by and large, is still a time-bound activity. Even if you're not using all the skills your character has learned, there are some basic 15-30 minute ones that can be a pain when you're starting fresh.

Thanks!

I don't know if it's ever been mentioned, but if you were a fan of bash.org there's an Eve specific version called OMG RAWR. If you're not a fan of Bash.org, it's a collection of funny quotes said in chat, with the option of upvoting or downvoting submissions.

hmm, seems there really are not a lot of skills that fall under the alpha (free to play) tier but given that it's only half the speed that's still a good long while of skill training before one would be out of options I guess.

Yeah... I can't fly the battle cruiser I'm sitting in... don't know how to lug it somewhere useful for if I decide to upgrade later. Don't know how to see where I left my other ships... lol

On the left hand side menu is an icon that looks like a safe. That's your personal assets tracker. You can open it and then it'll list every system and station where you own one thing. You can sort by number of items, number of jumps or system name.

At the top menu bar of that screen is a personal search option, so you can type in "Rifter", for example, and see everywhere you have one of those garbage cans parked.

is there ui scaling somewhere? trying to read the text on a 4k monitor is not fun

Got things moving with the help in the GWJ chat channel. Thanks!

Time to gather all my stuff in one location and restart ratting.

Went on a FW roam last night in Rifters that doubled in value when we loaded the guns (actually five Rifters, a Tristan and an Imicus), and killed a Jaguar, four Thrashers and a Condor. The Jaguar was worth 72m, so the other kills put us at about ~125,000,000 ISK exploded.

Meanwhile, our base Rifter was worth 2.2m ISK and could be flown by Minmatar Alpha Clones as everything on it is tech I. We scooped about 35m ISK of loot which bought our entire fleet with change spare.

All four Thrashers were the instalock arty fit that's designed to kill Frigates in one volley, so killing them was fun.

I believe there was some mention of it coming, but I'm not at my home PC to check to see if it's there. Try pressing ESC, and going to the "Display and Graphics" tab, and check if this mockup matches what you see:

RIFTER FLEET ASSEMBLE.

ALSO RIFTER FLEET... The thing in the front is, umm, a Trifter?

So I have a mammoth for moving stuff, a rifter, 2 thrashers, and a stabber all set up with maybe not optimal kits left over from 8 years ago. I also have a hurricane I'll hold onto for now even though it's currently useless to me.

I plan on giving ratting a try to re-get my bearings now that I have moved almost everything together. If I remember right, I can just head towards a mining belt or something and run across them. Is that still the case?

Filled out an application for Eve Uni, although I'm beginning to think it might not be the right one for me. I will never put much time into EVE due to lack of free time. I will probably drop it for more than a month at a time when things get hectic. I just want a small stable group to go on space battles with randomly when I have the time.

This update added a new belt NPC by the way, nice, friendly, peaceful miners that go about their business in the belt. If you attack them and one escapes then they will call reinforcements on you, which can apparently get pretty difficult (not CONCORD though, it's actually a fight you can win).

I believe that the idea is to close the loop and make PvE content that's closer to PvP, to make transition between the two easier.

I haven't seen them yet though, I don't know where they go, or how rare they are. I've only been in High Sec.

Started ratting again. Thrasher in 0.6 space. It was a breeze. Time to find a lower sec semi-permanent home. Maybe back towards minmatar space.

Got accepted into EVE University, but they commented that I should move out of high sec before accepting. Argh... I have at least 4 trips worth of stuff. My mammoth only hold 11k cubic meters which means I will have to carry my organized containers one by one and I will have to leave my hurricane behind.

The mining campus of Eve University has a free new member relocation program for that sort of situation, I don't know if the University as a whole does.

I'm confused as to why they want you to leave high sec? Is it just because of our three wars going on right now? Are you specifically in one of the enemies territories?

No idea, let me see if I can copy the email and I will post it here.

Middle of the email. I was a off in my initial read of it. (it was late... yadda yadda)

EVE University, as with most major corporations, often find ourselves at war. We recommend that you do not accept the invite if you are located in a Major Trade hub, such as Jita, Amarr, Rens, or Dodixie and have relocated your possessions if you want to do so.

So I don't need to move I don't think. My current home base is Abhan VII which is 0.6 I believe. As I am minmatar, I had been thinking about heading that way on my own so I must have projected.

Where are my fellow GWJ'ers at? Maybe I can relocate there before I accept. (Or are we all in different regions?)

Throw enough darts at this map and you'll have a decent shot of hitting my current location at any point in time:

lol I should have known it wouldn't be one system.

I'm in the Amarr Mining Campus, which is in Amarr space.

When people ask me where my "Home Base" is, the only honest answer I can give is Heimatar. Between managing my PI, market orders, and running missions, I'm never in one particular place too long.

You may occasionally find me in Metropolis or Molden Heath, or running to Jita if I have desperate need of something I can't get in Rens or Hek. I also have a great quiet mining spot in Derelik that I haven't been to in months.

If you're in the neighboorhood, feel free stop by and say hi. I'm mostly doing the Solo thing right now though. Just stay out of Amamake - it's a death trap.
