DC Catch-All [Spoiler Zone]

I just came to post that. What a nice antidote to the extended cut trailer for Suicide Squad.

That trailer is a better movie than Batman vs Superman was.

I'll be in for Wonder Woman at the theater.

Green!? White!? Real blue!? The hell?

I want WW to be an extended version of the part in BvS where she gets clobbered, knocked back a couple hundred metres, looks up and smiles with a "this is gonna be fun" look.

Sort of like the smile Asuka gives at about 2:24 of this clip.

Wonder Woman Trailer 2 - Easter Eggs, Things Missed & DC's Future

The Batman

Deathstroke actor Joe Mangianello is full of praise for Ben Affleck’s approach to the movie:

When I met Ben we sat down and we talked about, you know, the role. We talked about the movie. His take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised. Because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to, you know, who Batman is. And I think it’s gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar. But it’s going to take this franchise in a direction that I think A LOT of people are going to be really happy about. It’s going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman.

Ben’s a great director, man. I mean the last movie that man directed won best picture. He’s got an Oscar for writing. Like, this is all the components to go down as a… everything is lined up for a really really really great movie. Not only a superhero movie but just a great great movie.

Do we really need a "fresh" take on a 70+ year old character? And what will be fresh after the Nolan reboot, the Burton reenergizing, the 60 camp?

The detective aspect? Which in the movies is typically him waving a tricorder around followed by a scene of him typing a few keys on the Batcave computer and it automagically solves the crime for him. So, maybe they could have the World's Greatest Detective (no, not that Cumberbatch guy, wrong genre) do some actual... detecting ?

I, for one, could actually get behind a film noir version of Batman.

Making Deathstroke the villain has me pretty certain we're just going to get more of the same. He can be cool, but he can also be just a guy with a ballistic mask--exactly the sort of thing that's wrong with these movies thus far.

First Look at the Massive DC/CW Crossover Also Contains All Known Joy in the World

Okay, so we only really have a few actual pictures from the upcoming mega crossover between Supergirl, Arrow, Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow—and everyone looks appropriately stern or heroic for a crossover about an evil alien invasion. But the pictures shot for Entertainment Weekly to go with it? So much joy.

There's also this.

So I finally got around to watching Batman v Superman last night...

Ordinarily, I'm not big on hyperbole at my age. I don't quote Jeffery Albertson's line about "Worst (insert noun) ever!" all that often, but this movie...it kinda was. Too long, tried doing too many things, the things they did right (Wonder Woman) they didn't have enough of. I now have zero interest in the rest of the DC Movie Universe except for Wonder Woman.

I've been pretty leery of actually watching the recent DC movies so I've been watching the Cinema Sins youtube videos of the movies to get the general gist of the films.

OTOH, I am also very interested in the new Wonder Woman movie. Her appearances in the BvS fight scenes were pretty cool and I thought the trailers for her movie looked good.

The broadcast TV shows are giving me all the DC universe I need.

They can be cheesy and soapy but they're also fun.

So, ummmm. Anyone notice that Legends of Tomorrow is starting to get kind of good?

I've been watching all 4 shows in the build up to the cross over and 3 or 4 episodes into each I'm liking them so far.

Supergirl remains awesome and the others are getting a decent balance of seriousness and humor. Flash seems to be finding its feet, Arrow is going in an interesting direction and finding some joy, except emo Diggle, ugh. And Legends is the rip roaring, joyous romp through space and time its premise suggested.

Legends of Tomorrow is super dumb, but it feels like everyone involved knows just how dumb it is and they all just decided to go ahead and have fun with it.
Kind of how The Flash used to be before all this endless agonizing over Barry's latest timeline f*ckup.

Legends is definitely the best one of the bunch at the moment (note we don't watch Supergirl). I love how just plain old stupid fun it is. Was definitely the best direction to take it.

I'm kind of meh on the whole CW superhero lineup. Even their best show, The Flash, isn't that great. They either need to pare down some shows, like mercifully killing Arrow, and dedicating more resources to the surviving shows or they need to just rethink everything. What they are doing now just isn't working at all.

I like the actor that plays Green Arrow. And if they ever decide to really cut shows and maybe do an ensemble show, like a Justice League-esque thing, I'd think he would be great for it. As it is, they are muddying all of the franchises. The alien crossover was pretty abysmal, especially the second half with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. I'll generally watch anything with the BF, but I was literally counting down the minutes for each episode to end.

Wow, I disagree with everything you say except about Stephen Amell.

I'm not trying to change your opinion, but for me the shows go:

Supergirl>Arrow>>>>Legends>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Flash

Arrow is on a solid quality bounce this season, and while Invasion! felt a bit rushed I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was joyful and simultaneously resolved some of the issues that have been plaguing the shows so far this season.

DC Superheroes Will Team Up With Hanna-Barbera Characters Next Year

DC’s crossover game is strong lately. Not only have we got stuff like Justice League/Power Rangers on the way, along with the next Batman/TMNT crossover, the company has now announced that several of its weird (and very wonderful) comic takes on Hanna-Barbera characters will now host a series of team-ups with DC’s own finest heroes.

DC has announced a new series of annuals set to launch in March next year, which will first pair up the ongoing Flintstones and Future Quest series with Booster Gold (from Mark Russell, Rick Leonardi, and Scott Hanna) and Adam Strange (from Marc Andreyoko, Jeff Parker, and Steve Lieber), respectively. On top of those two, there’ll be two new mashups not currently associated with one of DC’s ongoing Hanna-Barbera comics: Green Lantern/Space Ghost, from James Tynion IV, Chris Sebela, and Ariel Olivetti, and (most amazingly) Suicide Squad/Banana Splits, by Tony Bedard and Ben Caldwell.

Supes ain't part of the team then?

They've said he definitely is, but for some reason they aren't including him in any promos. My guess is that either he doesn't show up until the very end of the film, or he doesn't quite look the same.

Spoiler:

Black suit and mullett!!!

I think in this first one that is correct. I believe he will be resurrected by the end of the movie but not be a main character in the film.

I hate when people complain about superhero costumes, after all they are fundamentally dumb. But here I go anyway, that Flash suit looks Extremely uncomfortable to run in.

The speed force is really good for preventing chafing.

Someone on the set decided to do a Google image search for "young Victor Garber". They were quite pleased with the results:

Oh man, that can't be the last of Rusty Venture on Supergirl--he's too perfect!
