Thinking I need to try this if only to get comfy with the mobility, combat awareness and radar usage without the additional distractions of big robots.

Watched the Giant Bomb crew play Last Titan Standing. I am also now officially interested in that mode.

Again these other modes are only possible on the console versions.

The PC version you're lucky to get attrition or bounty hunter outside of prime time.

I've been doing a bit better in MP

still usually at the bottom but I've had a few dominating rounds too.. which were probably against players with less experience.

I'm finding that the levelling-based power curve is pretty steep. which isn't great for early balance but gives me hope that the game will click a lot better for me once I'm further along and I've got a better grasp of the maps

To PS4 Players: anyone interested in playing Bounties from 12pm to 2:30pm or so Eastern Time on Saturday? I'm curious to try it and wouldn't mind filling a spot in my Extra Life schedule with Titanfall 2.

Was also thinking of streaming for extra life this weekend actually haha, but also about playing it for a straight 24 hours because I cant think about any other game right now. I would be down to play with you during that time! I'm Mr_Klinck on PSN so friend me up!

I really like the Hemlock. The burst AR but it cant compete with the full autos. With the speed of the game its very hard to hit someone. Leveled it up a bit but retiring it to go back to the CAR.

I'm sitting here staring at the PC version in my cart, but now this is giving me pause. Is the server population dire enough already that I shouldn't bother?

If you're looking for a robust MP population then hold off. It's just not there. Day of launch i was only able to play Attrition, Bounty Hunter, Amped Hardpoints (for like 2 cycles) The default group was only showing 10k people.

Since launch only Bounty Hunter and Attrition and not always able to keep going because people would leave.

It's pretty dire on the PC.

That's too bad. I probably won't play a ton of it, but if I'm buying now at close to full price, I'd at least like the option. If it's grim now, that's just gonna get worse later, which is too bad. I guess I'm waiting on a sale if I'm mostly getting it for SP.

What does everyone think about the LMGs in MP? I was surprised by how lightly they handle. I don't feel as encumbered as I would using these guns in other shooters. I'm not sure if they're actually hitting that much harder than ARs. Could be the usual thing of more consistent damage during sustained fire at certain ranges while ARs and SMGs do better in close quarters.

The Flatline AR is awesome in the SP and not entirely surprised it's a high level unlock in MP

In Europe the game is very healthy on PC so far, there's no mode you won't find a match in almost instantly any time of day (that I have played; which includes early morning, afternoons and late at night). Curious that it apparently is so bad in the US - is the ratio of people playing primarily on console vs people playing primarily on PC really that different?

Jeff Gerstmann on Giant Bomb says that there is quite a large population. He seems to think that the talk about dying populations isn't really backed up.

According to the number people have posted in the subreddit from the in-game count, XBONE is like 20-30k, PS4 is 20k and PC is usually 8-9k at peak times in the US. I think their matchmaking is a little wonky because those are fine numbers to have a healthy playerbase. That or the counts are wrong or everyone is playing single player.

Doesn't it depend on which data center you are connecting to as well?

The numbers on PC aren't necessarily bad, it's just that this is probably as high as they're likely to get, short of a half price sale closer to Christmas.

What I should really do is reinstall the first game and run around in there for an hour or two to get my fix in, then maybe bite on a later sale price.

That's what I've been doing.

Picked this up on the PS4. Looking forward to getting some games together. RobotMarmot on PSN.

matchmaking is a bit slow but I've never had to wait more than a minute, even during off hours.

speaking of off-hours, why is the GWJ Network's Happy Hour in the middle of the afternoon EST? could we change that?

I can see this being a slow burn where it'll take time to get discovered and not everyone wants to jump into MP on the first week.

the real problem is that the player base is fractured across platforms.

Yeah, I'd love it if there could be a way to just get one playerbase across all platforms.

It seems like with TF2 launching at the same time as BF1, TF2 is getting the short end of the stick, and maybe just needs some kind of catalyzing force, like a sale, to convince more people to give it a try.

Meanwhile, I've got TF1 installed, so let's see if anyone's still playing there.

That's unlikely to happen given how much of an advantage K+M users would have over gamepad users in terms of aiming.

Oh, there's a ton of reasons it'll never happen. But it'd be so much nicer if it could.

About the PC he's wrong.

Well, that settles that then.

I wasnt being flippant.

I've seen posts on reddit talking about 40k people which for a FPS especially right after launch is an insanely low number.

When you join the TF2 multiplayer lobby under the default ADV guild the most i've seen on at the same time is 10k and in my area never above 1k compared to the TF1 launch there was 100k+ and 10k+

that seems like a ridiculous statement to me.

maybe it's because I've mostly played smaller titles and shunned the constant drive to jump onto The Next Big Shooter but that seems like a perfectly healthy number to me.

For a AAA title, only 40K on at a time is petites pommes de terre. (I don't know why I needed to say that in french. I think my brain is melting)

Look at Battlefield 1
http://bf1stats.com/

Currently online players

PC: 92,875 (24h peak: 112,330)

XBOXONE: 113,425 (24h peak: 175,575)

PS4: 207,732 (24h peak: 247,959)

Total: 414,032

Granted it's been under a month since release.

All this talk about low player numbers in MP on PC. No doubt people are not imagining their experiences with slow matchmaking or vacant lobbies.

Unless you have CoD numbers, I think developers should be wary of including too many game modes right out of the gate. They just needed to funnel the population into Attrition, Bounty Hunt, Titans only and Pilots only and that would probably be fine. Maybe CTF to appease the objective junkies but that's it.

Not a good sign for me when I have to "flip a page" on a mutiplayer modes screen to see more options. Granted they have maybe 3 "aggregate" mixer-style modes but I feel with those you're still spreading out people far and wide.

This is likely not the be-all end-all reason for the lower than expected player counts but definitely a big factor IMHO.

Right their numbers shrink as time moves on.

The last CoD title (BO3) 2 weeks out had 200k folks still playing, but i think the launch weekend was close to 2million.

The numbers are low but that doesn't mean you can't have a healthy multiplayer scene. You could easily find attrition games in TF1 a couple years after release. You probably still can.

That's the thing. The Bombcast guys were saying how TF1 is basically dead now. Which is really kind of relative. I could go and find a game and play right now. So it really depends on what exactly you're looking for. If you're looking for huge player counts to compare some metric against other games, maybe TF2 isn't what you want. If you want to play TF2, you can most certainly go and do that right now, and you will for a very long time.

That 2nd page is the only saving grace this game (on PC) has. There's an option to have a private room so you can invite friends and faction members to play.

What makes this even more sad for me is that this IS a fun, slick, action packed shooter. It deserves to have more people playing.

I blame them for not giving the PC folks a chance to test up front. With the history they had with the last one on PC they needed to shake everyone's fears and show they could get it right the 2nd time around. Instead they ignored them and only those of us who buy these type of games regardless jumped in. Myself was a last minute impulse because some of my friends were thinking about it.
