Titanfall 2 Catch-All

I'm in the group now but not seeing others joined!

Normal wasn't bad. I only had issues during the last boss battle. There were a couple of points where I wasn't sure where to go, but that wasn't too bad.

Anyone veteran TF1 players want to comment on the quality of the TF2 multi? I played the TF2 beta, but that mostly made me want to play TF1. I know they fixed the time to titan fall, so that's good, but the non-regenerating Titan shields seemed off to me. In general, it seemed too much to focus on the pilots than the titans. Now, I'm hearing all the good hype about TF2, and I want to believe, but that's mostly about the SP.

It's mostly about SP. The focus is more on the pilot than titans this time around, but titans are important. It's also more often than to play as a unit with other titans if possible. The matches i've played it seemed to be with or against people on comms. When 2-3 titans focus a single one it doesnt last long at all. 1v1 titan matches though seem about the same as before. (PC) Then there's just the ability to play MP at all. There's only ever 2 or at most 3 modes up and running. So in that regard it's dramatically reduced compared to TF1 at launch and from what i hear compared to the consoles.

I'm an old TF 1 player. I tried the beta on PS4 and was really underwhelmed by it. It felt different than TF1. I almost canceled my preorder.

Glad I tried it. The multiplayer has that TF1 vibe again. I haven't played TF1 in years, but the TF2 multiplayer felt like that.

At first, I lamented that they got rid of titan shields in MP but it does encourage you to get in there and engage the enemy. Otherwise, it'd be, "Oh my shields are down. I'll just pull back and recharge".

Also, had a tough time finding players for some of the non-mainstream game modes on the PC. Hopefully most players are just finishing up single player?

This is my first Titanfall game, and my first FPS since Halo 4. I blew through the SP. Its such a refreshing campaign. I'm sad I have to work on homework instead of jump into the MP or go back through the SP to improve my skills. I still feel a bit rusty.

I don't think Im in the right GWJ network. Only one online person is in it.

finished SP and jumped into a round of MP but my eyes need a rest

Effect and Cause might be the best FPS level in a LONG time. I finished the game on Saturday, and I'm still thinking about that one. Tone, mechanics, the entire thing is incredibly well integrated.

Played a bit of MP, maybe two hours or so. I did not particularly like the beta. But this feels like a mix of CoD, Brink, Armoured Core, Vanquish and Street Fighter and Attack on Titan.

Ok turns out switching to the first loadout on that boss fight made all the difference.

Without giving too much away, the boss fights have been games of ring around the rosy but they are still incredibly fun.

You also have to remember that you can rodeo enemy titans, and steal a battery pack to give to yourself or a team member for shields on a titan. I think it may also affect the the pace of your titan spawning when you plug it into a friendly titan. I'll do this when there are at least a couple titans on both sides battling it out so they won't notice me as easily. Then I just hop over to a friendly titan and plug it in.

Yes! I don't even carry an anti-Titan weapon anymore. I always go for the rodeo. If you're carrying a battery, jump on a friendly Titan real quick to heal them! I love this new mechanic, and if you kill an enemy they'll drop their battery for you.

I haven't tried many packages yet even though I'm lvl 11 or 12 and I've unlocked several more options.

Not loving the MP so far, the gun play feels clunky compared to the original. hopefully it's something I'll get used to.

something else I'm gonna have to get used to: I love the power slide but I'm used to sprinting up to cover and then crouching behind it... which means I now slide right past it out into the open, which is bad news bears.

also, when you rodeo an enemy titan, it seems like you pull the battery and then jump off.. is there no way to shoot into a weak spot like before?

If you jump back onto the titan after you pulled out their batter, you will drop a grenade in that slot that you pulled the battery out of, and you can just keep doing that until they swat ya off.

Did not play TF1, but am loving TF2 so far (on PS4). Multiplayer is fun and satisfying, even for a barely middling player like myself. I've only done the first part of the campaign but it was decent. And at least on PS4 so far, in evenings, EST, you can get into a MP match quickly and without fuss - seems to be lots of players. It's taken me a bit of time to get a handle on using a titan properly but I'm finally getting it, and zipping around as a pilot is fun as hell and there are a decent amount of different load outs I'm experimenting with.

I joined the PS4 GWJ clan thingie yesterday but so far there are only 10 members and no one was on last night.

I was on last night but only for about an hour or so. I friended you and some others who joined and should be around tonight if you wanna play a few rounds of bounty hunt!

Is bounty hunt super impressive to anyone else? It just feels incredibly engaging to me and and actually gets people to care about the objective.

Also, that battery can then be used in any friendly Titan.

The MP does a really good job of making average - or poor - players feel like they're cool. With the swinging and scooting and shooting.

The blazing fast TTK and the ability to hit and be hit from darn near any direction is not exactly jiving with my skill set, haha. I am consistently posting at the bottom of the leaderboard in Bounty Hunt and Attrition. Players-to-map space ratio also feels a bit off, due to their requirement to support Titan movement lanes and lower number of AI grunts. For me, dashing about is a sure way to get gunned down while a more methodical approach (checking corners, moving from cover to cover) feels too plodding. I haven't found my balance yet and really haven't gotten used to the radar.

I'm around the bottom of the scoreboard, but still having fun. Try skirting the outside of the map and picking people off, or holding a rooftop for a little while. Maybe there's also fun to be had in helping pilots by carrying anti-titan weapons or looking for batteries.

I had a trailer-like moment where I grappled into a pilot and killed him. But we were only about 10' away from each other.

Guessing I'm the only one that likes pilots-only?

I like Titans because I'm soft and weak and fragile. Sitting in a giant mech suit ensures I'll live longer than 5 seconds.

I prefer it to level up my weapons, but yet to get a match in.

To PS4 Players: anyone interested in playing Bounties from 12pm to 2:30pm or so Eastern Time on Saturday? I'm curious to try it and wouldn't mind filling a spot in my Extra Life schedule with Titanfall 2.

Took out two titans and the exploded a dude as he was jumping.

what is the GWJ network called?

I thought you said you were usually in the bottom of the scoreboard?

I am, which is why I so surprised that happened.

I think the thing about this game is that, even if you do badly, you'll have multiple moments of something cool *almost* happening.

As in, you'll go head-to-gead with a Titan and almost kill it. Or you'll leap from a rooftop, grapple onto a building, swoop down into someone and *almost* kill them.

It makes me think of slot machines in that gamblers keep going back not because they are always losing, it's that they are akmost winning.

That feeling will likely fade over time, but it's quite compelling at the moment.

Thinking I need to try this if only to get comfy with the mobility, combat awareness and radar usage without the additional distractions of big robots.

Watched the Giant Bomb crew play Last Titan Standing. I am also now officially interested in that mode.
