Question for folks who have watched The Stray.

Spoiler:

When the ambush goes down, one of the guests flees with a deputy. A short while later, we see that deputy ride into town alone.

So... did I miss something, or should we assume that guest was killed? If so, is there a chance the deputy killed him? Wyatt's bandits seemed pretty localized, from what we saw.

I assumed that the guest simply went his own way once they got back to safety.

I'm guessing he got distracted by side quests.

Now I'm envisioning that guest trying to gather 100 rattlesnake fangs to grind rep and can't stop giggling.

I love that they used the song Paint It Black behind the arrival of the villainous host.

I've been having fun playing name that tune every time they show the player piano spin up. I think I caught "Black Hole Son" in the first episode.

What was episode 3? I forget. Episode 2 was No Surprises.

Well, the plot thickens. Good stuff, but mostly thickening. Did anyone recognize the piano roll theme?

I don't know what the piano was playing, but I found it very interesting at the end, when they were describing a kind of religion the hosts built up around "the creators."

Dolores is getting more interesting all the time.

The piano roll seemed familiar, but I couldn't place it.

Ford is becoming more and more sinister.

From what I read, it was A Forest by The Cure.

A Forest
The Cure
[The Cure]
Come closer and see
See into the trees
Find the girl
If you can
Come closer and see
See into the dark
Just follow your eyes
Just follow your eyes
I hear her voice
Calling my name
The sound is deep
In the dark
I hear her voice
And start to run
Into the trees
Into the trees
Into the trees
Suddenly I stop
But I know it's too late
I'm lost in a forest
All alone
The girl was never there
It's always the same
I'm running towards nothing
Again and again and again and again

That restaurant sequence was beautifully executed.

Did you notice how he lifted his finger towards the end to get the hosts to start moving again?

This week's Decrypted podcast about episode 4 is GREAT!

<3 Annalee Newitz. Great podcast.

No, but not to get on a tangent, but I find it interesting that there's a modern restaurant with the park itself, like it's there to cater to the casual guest who would prefer a bit of present day comforts during their stay at Westworld.

That restaurant felt like a fancy meal at Disneyland with its faux setting and elegance.

In between Westworld and Jurassic Park, I can't help but wonder if Michael Crichton had a traumatic experience at Disneyland and these were his ways to cope.

So, no discussion of a couple of the guest recognizing the man in black from the real world? I believe one of them even thanked him for his company or tech saving a relative. Pretty sure that puts a nail in the coffin for the MIB being an android.

Or could he be an android designed to look like somebody in the real world? Maybe even with their consciousness downloaded in some secret project?

(Not endorsing that theory, btw)

Yeah, they left that option open-ish, but I think it would be really strange to go that route at this point. He could be Arnold, but I kinda don't think they'll go that route. Honestly, I hope there isn't any big conspiracy surrounding his identity at this point. I hope they gradually reveal things about who he his and there isn't a "Ah ha!" moment. I still think it'd be cool if he was just a guest that was traumatized/intrigued/hooked during the original park disaster from the movie.

I'd thought Arnold might be possible, but he doesn't look like Arnold's picture:

I guess Arnold could have uploaded himself if you think that's the way they're going with the Host design.

I think it would be cool if it turns out that the man in black is just a successful doctor or something. They could do an episode where they contrast his real-world "family man" type life with his life in the game.

I think he's a Bill Gates type figure due to the talk about his foundation.

I'm starting to wonder if Arnold downloaded his consciousness in whole or in fragments to one or more hosts. Maybe it's at the center of the maze.

I got the impression that the Man in Black was very rich and a philanthropist in the real world. I wonder if maybe he's also one of the investors in the park.

He was the lone survivor android of the last incident. A fully conscious Android who was allowed to exit, or perhaps found an exit himself. Went to the real world, made a name, became successful, helped people. And now he has entered the new Westworld to find its secret, why he became self conscious.

Episode 5 was really good. It was still a fairly "plot thickens" type episode, though. I don't really have much to say other than I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Contrapasso: the punishment of souls in Dante's Inferno.

Man, the end of episode 5 is just one big series of ellipses.

The "weeks ahead" clips were certainly epic and ominous.

Arnold made you and told you something so I'm going to have you get raped every day for 30 yrs to spite a dead man. Like Arnold killed himself because the company decided to covered up the fact the stuff they made could become self aware.

Give Lisa Joy and her husband Jonathan Nolan some credit. I don't think that is the story they're telling.

She's badass! Also clearly unlocked her Ult. Cause she was channeling McCree's High Noon.
