Red Dead Redemption 2 Catch-All

I want this game even if only to just run around in the wilderness and sight-see.

Would prefer it on PC preferably, but will settle for PS4 if I have to.

Screw a game set in the old west, that trailer has me wanting a mountain man simulator. Hopefully we can get all Jeremiah Johnson up in there.

You hope for Jeremiah Johnson, but in the end you'll probably get stuck with grunting Leonardo DiCaprio crawling and running around for three hours.

So from the trailer....it is apparently set in the old west...
*no Youtube link yet.

Was there ever any doubt?

Was there ever any double post?

I'm really glad video games can do good vegetation/shrubbery/trees now.

They really know how to get me with that trailer. Don't show any character or story stuff but show how beautiful the world is. For all my whining about how they need to deviate from their general formula with characters/story/quests, I really want to just go explore that world and go hunting, etc. Dag nabbit!

I used to quite enjoy farting around in GTA IV, pretending to be a taxi driver.

If I can mooch around beautiful mountainscapes pretending to be a hunter/fur trapper/mountain man, I'm sold, quite apart from the main game.

The environments look insanely good, that's a really huge jump in fidelity from the previous entry. The buffalo running beside the steam train with the smoke billowing out & staying thick in the air right across the shot, that was awesome!

I'll go a media blackout on this after possibly one more short gameplay trailer next year. I don't want surprises getting ruined from seeing too much right upto launch, but damn I'm excited.

I really wish a PC version is in the works.

Reveals from the trailer:

1) It looks gorgeous.

2) It is still set in the Old West.

3) ?

The protagonist is male, wears a cowboy hat, and carries a gun.

Information overload!

It may happen. Rockstar's MO seems to be limited console exclusive followed by a PC release. RDR1 seems to be an exception in that it never saw a PC version.

Bad news is since this is at least a year off on consoles, plus an obligatory delay, plus a exclusivity delay, any PC version is probably well into 2018 at least.

My hope is that MS keeps pushing this XB1+Windows 10 multi-platform program and we get a PC version that way along side the XB1.

With that forest I'm putting my money down that we are going to have a bear mauling & survival side story.

It could run on PS3 hardware and I'd be in. It's the mechanics and the setting for me. Characters, too. It's certainly impressive, though, if they can deliver that degree of detail.

I haven't played a Rockstar game since RDR. I passed on GTA IV and GTA V.

Just remembered this video from Red dead Redemption. I've watched it quite a few times.

And this one. The music may be vaguely familiar.

Goddamn I love this game. Feeling another playthrough coming on...

Black Hat or White Hat?

Man. This game holds up.

Human or Cylon?

FTFY.

When it first came to Xbox One backwards compatibility last year, I was floored by how good it still looked.

...I was kind of hoping all the activity in this thread was about a release date or something.

FTFM

Hey, that's technically a something!

I will wet myself if they announce a PC version.

I'm baffled as to why RDR never had one, and (at least so far) it appears RDR2 won't either. (I'm basing this speculation on the lack of a logo on their teaser page)

I think the PC sales numbers of GTAV on PC (it's *still* consistently in the top sellers on steam) means they'd be crazy not to have that planned. Coupled with this gen console hardware being more related to a regular PC, it hopefully shouldn't be that much of a jump. They'll no doubt stagger the PC release for 6+ months again to..... 'combat piracy' or whatever their current excuse is on that front, but I'm pretty sure it'll be there at some point. Just have to hope they don't skimp on the Single Player with some form of GTAOnline style mode (which might be fun in it's own right).

That's my thoughts anyway, but obviously we shall have to wait and see.

Delayed until 2018....

Honestly, while I'm disappointed, I'm actually kind of relieved. Most big Rockstar titles get delayed, and I want this done right far more than I want it done timely.

Also, Spring is usually uncrowded, and I want to give this game my full attention.

I'm at the point where if a dev wants to take more time, my reaction is, "Sure, go ahead. Take all the time you need."

I'd be interested to know what exactly needs fixing at this late stage. I say 'late' because - until yesterday -this game was due in 4 months or so. It's now been pushed back one year.

Let's hope that this extra work frees us from the dreaded Day One patch.
