NFL 2016: Offseason: OTAs / Dead Zone / Gumbie Loves Kickers!

They go from the Botched Holder to the Butt Fumbler.

Ravens released Justin Forsett.

I feel better about owning Terrance West and Kenneth Dixon in Dynasty now. Before I knew it was a long shot, but now I look smart.

There's a good chance Forsett re-signs with Baltimore and nothing really changes (except his salary). This feels like a move to avoid having his salary guaranteed. I'd give better than even odds that he's on the Ravens week 2 roster.

Well, I guess it's good that it's not Johnny Football...

I think I agree with Bill Barnwell:

Mark Sanchez is not good. I still think I’d rather have Mark Sanchez for free than Sam Bradford for first- and fourth-round picks.

Lucky for us in D2 the draft's tomorrow and not two weeks ago.

Any league whose draft is scheduled earlier than the conclusion of preseason week 3 should fire their commissioner.

After week 4 and the cutdowns to 53 is best, but at bare minimum, after week 3.

I would surely have drafted Bridgewater if it had been last weekend.

I LOVE posting this vid.

Oh, I absolutely agree with Bill Barnwell. I cannot imagine a scenario where I would have offered up a first-round pick for Sam Bradford. I mean, presuming "kidnapped and gun pointed at my head" isn't one of the valid options.

Carson Wentz, he of barely any field action in the preseason, will start Week 1.

That kid is gonna get killed.

In all fairness, those FCS defenses surely prepared him for the NFL.

Jene Bramel had this to say about Teddy Bridgewater:

The most devastating injury of the preseason came during an innocuous practice rep. On what was described as an ordinary movement outside the pocket, Bridgewater's left knee dislocated without contact. The Vikings described the injury as a knee dislocation, torn ACL, with other "associated damage." By definition, a knee dislocation involves multiple ligament tears. Given the gruesome reports and the need for immediate transport by ambulance, it's likely Bridgewater tore at least three ligaments in his knee. The Vikings also confirmed no nerve or blood vessel injuries in the knee, While this is going to be a long and difficult rehab, avoiding nerve and vessel injury are positive factors for Bridgewater's recovery.

What we don't know yet is what the "associated damage" entails. Hopefully, it's just the additional ligament tears not described in the team's statement. As yet, there's been no indication that Bridgewater suffered a patellar tendon tear, which would add a very difficult layer to his recovery. But it's possible Bridgewater tore meniscus tissue, damaged the cartilage around the joint, or injured other soft tissues in the posterolateral corner of his knee. Any of those injuries could complicate his recovery.

There aren't many comps for this injury. Napoleon McCallum, Robert Edwards, Willis McGahee, and Marcus Lattimore all suffered similar injuries. Because of the number of structures potentially involved, however, no two knee dislocations, surgeries, or recoveries should be considered comparable. Edwards is the only player whose injury occurred with little to no contact. McCallum had multiple nerve and blood vessel injuries. I don't believe McGahee had any associated soft tissue injuries.

Bridgewater has a chance to return in 2017, with the best case scenario being a return in Week 1. But it's difficult to handicap his odds without knowing the extent of the damage to his knee and in advance of any rehab reports.

Probably not anything that couldn't be gleaned from someone else, but Jene Bramel's entire focus on his articles at FootballGuys (subscription required) is injuries so when he says it I listen.

The good news is that he has six games against the nfc east. The bad news is he has four games against the afc north.

Wasn't the point of signing Chase Daniel to avoid doing that? Like I get the team taking the Bradford deal, who wouldn't, but that's why you have another veteran QB on the roster.

Even when the Jaguars dumped Garrard before Gabbert's rookie year, they at least put Luke McCown on the field and make him stink the joint up before playing Gabbert, and Gabbert was coming in from two full healthy seasons starting in the Big 12. Let's not forget Carson Wentz is not only transitioning from the FCS, but he missed over half his senior year from injury.

I'm sure Philly fans will find a way to blame it on Chip Kelly though.

Maybe they need to call in Elysium if Certis struggles.

They need someone who can score touchdowns, not conquer Poland.

Yeah, I would hand the reins over to Demiurge.

Lol give it time you will be blaming Chip Kelly for everything as well. Oh so naive.

If they want someone organized and who gets sh*t done, they should sign Ameobic.

But Demiurge is the sports-ball expert.

There needs to be a bit at the top where Christian Ponder's name is scratched out and Bradford's written in.

Saw that coming, although not precisely the reason.

Then again, we haven't seen the details of his new contract, and I'm betting it's not $3 million this year, so I think there's probably a bit more to it than just roster gymnastics.

If that article didn't say, another did: same terms but with an added $100,000 incentive.

I look forward to a future "Sam Bradford named week one starter, also pre-emptively named to week four injury list" meme.

So, a Dallas fan friend of mine told me his Cowboys will beat my Ravens in Week 11 because "Romo will be back by then".

I laughed and told him the only thing Romo is beating at this point in his career is a path to his vicodin bottle.

If they do beat us, it won't be because of Romo.

Hell, I'm a Cowboys fan and trash talk is not anywhere in my playbook for the foreseeable future.

Edit: Unless I am talking to Eagles Fan or Giants Fan. Then it can't be helped.

That's surprising. The move actually created $1.4 million in dead cap space, although that's from amortized signing bonus so that was cash already paid out. I don't think I've ever seen a maneuver like this that wasn't also a pay cut for the veteran.
