Titan Quest’s Anniversary Edition

I couldn't find a Titan Quest catch-all, so I'm creating this new thread. Titan Quest’s Anniversary Edition Update

THQ Nordic releases a surprise title on Steam called Titan Quest Anniversary Edition for the game’s 10-year-anniversary and gifts the game to everyone calling either Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Immortal Throne or Titan Quest Gold their own on Steam. So, in numbers, more than 1 million people will automatically find the game in their library starting today.

For anyone who doesn't have any of the Titan Quest games on Steam (such as me; I still have the CDs and apparently never bought a digital copy), this Anniversary Edition is on sale for $5 through September 7, at both Steam and GOG.

The highlights of the update include improved performance, fixed bugs, and, most importantly, a big balance overhaul. You can find the huge list of changes here.

Most importantly, they replaced the GameSpy multiplayer with Steam.

I bought TQ from a site like gamersgate.com or direct2drive.com, but I can't remember where. It's not on my gog.com or steam account. Any other ideas? It's been years.

Maybe Amazon?

I think the site went out of business, thanks though.

This trend of companies rereleasing updated games and not charging for some existing owners is pretty cool. I own TQ on disc, so I don't benefit in this case, but I approve. It's beyond reasonable expectations IMO.

I've been in an ARPGish mood lately, so I grabbed this at the launch price.

How does it hold up? Titan question is one of my favorite ARPGs ever. So under-rated, especially once the expansion came out. Still, Its been probably 9 years since I've played so I may just be too nostalgic about the game.

Wow, I just looked at the change log, that is a lot of changes! Time to get back into TQ again.

For $5, it's a no-brainer. I liked the original game when it came out, though I never finished it or picked up the expansion(s?).

Thanks for mentioning this! I went and checked my library and it's in there. This and Kingdom New Lands in a few weeks, both free for me. It's a pleasant surprise for sure.

Bonus awesomeness - if you've played TQ in the last few years on Steam, your characters are still there in the Anniversary Edition!

I want to play the game, but stuck in build paralysis as happens every time I start a new one of these.

Uh...yeah...so apparently this just happened.

:O

Wow! Who would have thought an expansion would come out after all this time?

If you have interest in this game, put Grim Dawn on your radar. When Iron Lore disbanded (original creator of TQ) the lead level designer started up Crate Entertainment who publishes Grim Dawn. It's a lot like TQ with the class structures and gameplay.

Holy wow. That's incredible.

That's totally awesome. It's being made by the folks who made the Magicka games though. Are they the right fit? Is there any lineage between them and the original Titan Quest developers? I had thought that the Titan Quest people mostly regrouped into Crate and made Grim Dawn.

That's neat. I will have to play it at some point. I always like having an ARPG on the go for nights when sleep is eluding me.

This is crazy to me. I mean, it's awesome because TQ was one of my favorite games but also just... weird? I can't imagine they'll make back their costs on this because really how many people are going to pay the $15 for an expansion campaign to a somewhat niche 10+ year old (I think?) PC game. Maybe there are more people playing Titan Quest than I realize.

Definitely cool. Longer end of life support than some versions of Windows.

Added to my wishlist, will definetly pick it up in the future. Titan Quest was pretty much my go to game for loot hack and slash, at least until Reaper of Souls came out for PS4. At some point I really need to pick up Grim Dawn too.

I'm sure their numbers are based on how many people already owned the organization given the name game or bought the Anniversary edition. Steamspy.com says they've got 2 million owners so they're clearly basing their budget off of that.

It's weird, but it's welcome!

That is a weird surprise.
Cant really see myself going back to play it instead of going back to play Grim Dawn.

They did recently release Titan Quest on tablets and smartphones (!?), so maybe they plan on selling the expansion on those platforms too.

So I think I played this years ago when it originally came out, but never got far. Now I have this new edition along with the new expansion. Is there some kind of summoning class that'll let me sit back while my minions do all the work for me? That tends to be my preferred class for these kinds of games.

Nature, Spirit or Earth, if I remember correctly. But all of them use minions as a supplement, not necessarily as primary.

Just out of curiousity, you've tried Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, Diablo III and Victor Vran, right? All of them build on the kind of system in Titan Quest, but with better mechanics and more options. You can really run primary minion builds in those.

Only Diablo 3, out of those, but it's been a while.

With Path of Exile, you can have 30+ minions running around in combat, with the right build. Diablo III has a Witch Doctor with pets, as well as a Necromancer. Grim Dawn has Cabalist and Necromancer, at least, which have pet summoning abilities as I recall.

For me, Path of Exile is the one that lets me build a small army of minions (corpses, skeletons and raging skulls) early in the game, and they really do carry the weight of combat, with you supporting and directing them.

I've been reluctant to spend money on the Necromancer class in D3, but I never tried the Witch Doctor. Maybe that'll be worth trying.

Thanks for the other recommendations, I'll keep them in mind.

It's always good to know that there are more games out there like the ones you like. Path of Exile is entirely free to play. You can pay for cosmetics and storage slots (not carry slots, but storage). I think it's the best of them, but there's no bad ones in that list.

Is the anniversary expansion any good?

Steam reviews seem mixed, they say that it has poor writing but that didn't hold back the original IMO.

Necromancer is a class I thought I had no interest in, but it's probably my favorite now.
