Rocksmith Catch All

Thanks, chiefsheep. That Reddit was really helpful and I put the advice into practice this weekend.

The only thing that I can't find when I play is any indication of which fingers are meant to playing which string. One of the Reddit posters says that RS does this, and includes pictures. However, I couldn't see any when I tried. Is this functionality that I need to activate somehow?

This I'm working may way through this, but there are a couple of passages of 'R U Mine?' where the A (yellow) and G (orange) strings are being played simultaneously (or at least appear to be), and I just can't work out what I'm meant to be doing and how. Indications of which fingers are being used would help.

most chords the first time played will generally show you the finger placement. Not always like you're seeing which is basically a power chord with the middle string muted.

I think the source of my frustration is the fact that Rocksmith is happy to 'pass' notes that sound terrible (but that are played at the right time), and is even happy to 'pass' incorrect notes that sound right, but will 'fail' notes that are late (but that sound acceptable).

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the fact that the game demands a high standard of play in order to progress, and actively encourages mastery. But sometimes it is disappointing to be confronted constantly with things that I cannot do.

That's why you've seen folks post here that you also need to mic to another source or actually just not use headphones or speakers and listen to your actual guitar. At the end of the day the game is just using tone to qualify the notes. If you could hum the correct tone you'd get the same results. The idea is to learn the techniques and then to perfect them without the 'aid' that the game gives you.

This kind of thing is real handy:

If you're just starting out though, a basic Y-splitter cable is just fine for connecting to both the Rocksmith cable and an amp. This is what I've used, with good results. Sure, you're not going to get the absolute best tone out of your amp, but unless you're running higher-end gear you probably won't be able to tell the difference anyway.

Couldn't you just adjust the mix on Rocksmith so that you hear more of your guitar and less of the music? That is what I have been typically doing to hear my playing more. If you are splitting the sound over to your amp then you are losing the tone of the song that Rocksmith is setting for you.

That's true, but in my experience what you hear coming out of an amp is a much clearer representation of how you're playing than what comes out of Rocksmith. I'm not sure why. It's not just a volume thing.

Yea i'm not going to be buying all the pedals to simulate what's coming out of the game. I want to see if what i'm playing out of my gear sounds ok or not.

I suppose it depends on what you are in the mood for. Definitely agree that hearing yourself through the amp will give you a more accurate impression of what you are really playing. For learning guitar this is probably the better approach. However, part of the fun of Rocksmith for me is the tones it gives you and sounding like the actual guitar used in the song. I like that it switches tones mid song from clean to distorted or whatever the original song is doing at the time.

I suppose it just depends on what you are in the mood for at the time.

Rocksmith 2014 Remastered coming in October. Updated and free for existing owners. Some of the new features, such as custom song lists in Nonstop Play and making it easier to review and loop in Riff Repeater, are huge. Will definitely bring me back to playing more.

Rocksmith 2014 Remastered: Official FAQ
This year marks the 5th anniversary of Rocksmith as a franchise – and to prepare for the occasion, we’ve been working on some special stuff behind the scenes. The biggest item is definitely Rocksmith 2014 Remastered, which brings some fan-requested features and several improvements to the software you already know and love. Here’s a quick overview of Remastered:

What is Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered?
Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered is a free patch for all platforms and an updated re-release of Rocksmith 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Macintosh. Remastered is the same core experience that has helped so many people learn to play guitar, now with additional improvements and redesigned features.

When will Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered be available?
Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered is scheduled for release in stores in October 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Macintosh. (Existing Rocksmith 2014 players on all platforms will receive the Remastered improvements as a free patch at the same time.)

What has been updated for Remastered?
Remastered includes a major patch featuring a wide variety of improvements that we hope will be welcomed by new and experienced players alike.
· Manage your song library using updated Search, Sort, and Filter tools
· Search by artist or song name in Learn a Song, Score Attack, and the Shop—just enter the desired text with your keyboard or game controller
· Build custom Song Lists in Nonstop Play to group songs for personalized practice sessions
· Pause and navigate freely through entire tracks in Riff Repeater, and loop phrases more efficiently

If I already own Rocksmith 2014, do I need to buy Remastered?
Nope! It’s the same core software, and the updates it offers will be supplied to existing players through a free patch.

As an existing Rocksmith 2014 player, how do I get the Remastered improvements?
If you’re already enjoying Rocksmith 2014, all the improvements found in Remastered will be delivered in the form of a free patch. That applies to all six platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, and Macintosh – none of our existing players will be left behind!

When will the patch be available for existing players?
The patch is slated to appear this fall. When it’s available, just go online with your system of choice and the update will download automatically. Watch the forums at Rocksmith.com as well as our social media portals on Twitter and Facebook for news.

Are there any new songs in Remastered?
The core song library that comes with the main software remains the same as Rocksmith 2014 Edition. As an incentive for new players, a voucher with codes for six bonus DLC songs will come with physical copies of Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered at retail; players will redeem these codes via an online connection to obtain the bonus songs. However, these songs will also be made available for purchase as DLC for existing players, so no songs will be available exclusively through Remastered.

Those six bonus DLC songs are:
· Bob Marley & The Wailers – Three Little Birds
· Elvis Presley – Suspicious Minds
· FUN. – Some Nights
· Jackson 5 – I Want You Back
· Outkast – Hey Ya!
· Train – Drops Of Jupiter

If I already own Rocksmith 2014, how do I get the Remastered edition’s bonus songs?
These six tracks will be available for purchase as DLC the same week that Remastered becomes available at retail outlets. There is nothing exclusive to Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered; all its content will be made available to current players, as well.

We’ll share more details about what you can expect from Rocksmith 2014 Remastered in the coming weeks, and we’ll be talking about Remastered today on our livestream – join us at twitch.tv/rocksmithgame at 3pm PT/6pm ET/10pm GMT if you can. Thanks for your continued support, and happy 5th anniversary!

Sweet!

"Customize the rate of Dynamic Difficulty adjustments, or disable the feature altogether"

This might be my favorite feature of the bunch. I hope it can be adjusted per song and not just a global adjustment. For some reason, some songs seem to change difficulty at a good pace, while other seem to take forever to get more difficult.

Suspicious Minds and I Want You Back?

Hell yes.

I'm also pretty excited about the ability to see all arrangements in one place without having to change paths or click on the additional arrangements link.

There are a ton of quality of life improvements here and good on them for making it a free patch.

Not bad! I hope there are some performance improvements, too. It chugs a bit on my laptop, which I like to carry to my music playing area.

Has anyone ever searched youtube for "how to string a guitar"? It is amazing to me how many different ways there are to string a guitar and how in the comments everyone feels that the person in the video is doing it wrong and the way they do it is better.

Yeah. There are definitely a lot of different ways out there. I found one I liked, though, and it seems to work for me. I lost the original video so when I need a refresher I just look for one where they do it the same way.

It's all just habit. I am pretty sloppy with my stringing and everything seems to work hunky-dory. If you do it and it stays in tune, then you did it right

My stringing technique:

1. Remove old string.
2. Make a fist, and put it vertically on the 12th fret.
3. Put that much slack in the new string.
4. Wind said string.

When I snip off the extra string at the headstock, I leave a bit extra there and use some needle-nose pliers to bend the pointy bit of wire back on itself so I don't stab myself in the finger for the @#$!!! 15,000th time with the wire. I think there's a reasonable chance I've lost a full blood donation's worth of red cells just from stabbing myself in the fingers over the years with bits of guitar wire.

I got a new Les Paul that I need to string for the first time. It's a minor thing, but I like that I don't have to unscrew a cover off the back of the guitar to get the strings off and on.

Huh, what kind of guitar did you have before?

Heh, I just watched a video of a guy removing the backplate off his strat to remove the strings. I have that style of bridge and have never had to remove the plate to remove the strings.

I had a strat knock-off previously. Let me tell you, the step up in quality going from my old Rogue strat knock-off to my Gibson has been amazing.

I havent gone reading to see if there's a fix for this, but the new update has killed off all the current CDLC that people may have.

Holy shizz, I forgot this update was coming!

Do the original Rocksmith 360 cables work with the Xbox One?

I do believe the cables are all identical.

Hopefully I can stop Steam from downloading the update before it is too late.

Did they not say previous owners of Rocksmith 2014 would get some free songs after the update? I don't see them. :/

nope previous owners could buy the song pack separately!

I mean that's fine, I don't mind buying it, I like the software. Just thought I read they were tossing in some lagniappe. I'm not as cheesed about the CDLC being busted as you or most folks probably are.
