The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild Catch All

Did you play Skyward Sword? The stamina system is carried over from that, and I expect we'll see some interesting uses of it and it's limitations.

Remember that everything we saw is basically the tutorial area.

Nope, I have not and at this point I doubt I ever will.

Starting today I have a week off work. Excellent! You two fine folks just reminded me that I need (and want) to play Skyward Sword before Breath of the Wild launches. Time to get on that.

I was thinking about A Link to the Past, or The Minish Cap. But if I don't play Skyward Sword now, I may never. The motion controls could slow down my progress, so it's good to have the additional free time.

I can honestly say I haven't bought a Nintendo console since the 64. I think this game just might be the thing that does it. That and me having two little kids now so maybe I can sell the wife on the need for a more family friendly console.

If not, then you should be able to get the Wii U in a fire sale easily by end of the year. The Wii U and Wii have a really good combined catalog, and they've been building out the GBA and DS virtual console on Wii U with some good finds in there as well.

Stamina can be upgraded.

IIRC, they also talked about this in the related Nintendo Minute which also showcased the big towers that they revealed show up throughout the area (world?) due to some action that Link takes.

To be honest, I remember hearing the stamina thing somewhere but I had every single one of the streams on in the background on at some point, so I don't rightly recall where I heard it.

The Nintendo Minute I was talking about:

Cripes, I posted that video earlier. They said that stamina was upgradeable in it? How in the hell did I miss that?!?

Edit: Nvm, reading failure. Yeah, those towers are called Resurrection Towers in the video. I assume they're the locations throughout the world that you resurrect from if you die in-game. They were being all cagey as they relate to the story or whatever, but it seemed like a typical thing you would find in an open world to me (ie. hospitals in GTA). The narrative hook might be interesting, but my guess is their existence comes from function first.

Interesting graph tracking social media mentions of games at E3. Even more impressively that N didn't even have a press conference.

Poor NieR Automata.

I'm surprised Elder Scrolls: Legends isn't last. That game was not good.

Sure, but they did stream Zelda for hours upon hours. I would be surprised if it wasn't on top by a large margin.

Still, I'm glad to see that it is doing well in the public eye. It looked great.

It's social media mentions, so a bunch of the mentions could've just been "this looks bad" or "why are they trying to make yet another digital CCG".

Just above it are Paper Mario: Color Splash (which I'm pretty sure has been mostly talked about because people are complaining about it) and and Mario Party: Star Rush (which I think got retweeted a bunch when someone discovered that the cover art was the same as the art on a Mario Spaghettios can).

To add and contrast to Breath of the Wild being the most mentioned game in social media, Nintendo got even less media coverage than before, coming in a distant 3rd behind Sony and MS.

More of the stats from E3, including the chart Warriorpoet posted above. You have to view each image by itself to make it legible.

The image and the list is of course a bit silly, but Nintendo's answer to why Link has to be a dude is, if anything, more nonsensical.

"You know there’s the idea of the Triforce in the Zelda games we make," Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma told Kotaku. "The Triforce is made up of Princess Zelda, Ganon and Link. Princess Zelda is obviously female. If we made Link a female we thought that would mess with the balance of the Triforce. That’s why we decided not to do it."

Can Breath of the Wild's Return to Zelda's Roots Bring Wonder Back to The Series?

Jeremy hits on some good points for me. The Zelda series is something I've preferred to watch someone play instead of play myself since, oh, Ocarina. Now, I'm excited again to play it, explore the mysteries.

How'd I miss a thread for this?

I'm the only person seemingly half-excited. The world looks big and fun and all, but crafting doesn't immediately strike my pleasure tendons and the idea of all my gear constantly wearing out sounds tedious. So, I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to play it. But, it looks like when Nintendo does open-world, they do it well.

But God dammit, can't I at least keep finding heart containers instead of more crafting ingredients?

I saw them mention regaining hearts with crafting, and I saw something about getting temporary extra hearts with crafted things, but I haven't seen anything about getting rid of heart pieces.

Yeah, eat collected food to regain health. Eat cooked/combined/crafted stuff for more health. And eat specific foods for temporary extra hearts.

Bascially health is becoming a bit less abstract-gamey and more quasi-realistic-gamey.

I'm probably going to miss having a good reason to mow every inch or grass down. I remember picking up Twilight Princess and playing that as my first Zelda experience since Ocarina of Time and was instantly nostalgia-thrilled to be able to cut the grass (for hearts and rupees).

Youtube video of the weapons:

... and a tumblr post. Could we be getting more info soon?
EDIT: Oh, that youtube video I've seen a couple places and assumed it was official. Not sure now and have no sound so I don't know what it sounds like, either.

2 hours of speculation based on all the gameplay we have seen.

Any indication if that's Wii U or NX (Switch, I guess?) footage?

I kinda wonder what the situation will be with that. It's pretty amazing the Wii U didn't get its own Zelda game. I'll probably have to get a Switch just for this game, especially if they do a bundle. Having it portable would be very useful to me.

I doubt they'll look/run all that different. All that footage looks about Wii U fidelity to me.

I still love they went with the Joe Hisaishi feel with the music. It makes the setting feel fresh but also something you already know and love. This game is probably gonna feel more Studio Ghibli than Ni No Kuni did in some ways.

Seeing this game in motion is an absolute joy to me. I'm wondering if there will be time travel involved so that those ruined drone things come to life at some point.

That'd be cool. They might just do the timeshift stone type thing like in Skyward Sword. I'd be down for a new/old world type situation something like the light/dark world situation of A Link to the Past.

Exactly the 2 things I was thinking of.
