And they'll remember that, the next time these wackos are looking for support. This whole situation is about ideas, not just violence. They won some minor, unimportant battles, ones where the "enemy" wasn't actually damaged, and as a result, lost the war about as thoroughly as they possibly could have. Just about everyone realizes, now, that what they are offering is awful. Their ideas suck, and they were given the ability to demonstrate that.

If I'd been in charge, I wouldn't have handled it that well, and I really admire whoever was running the goverment's strategy here.

Schools were shut down out of fear of the Bundy bunch, and people wouldn't leave their homes for fear of being confronted by them. Yeah, it helps paint them as whackjobs who don't actually care about the people they claim to want to liberate from the tyranny of the government, but that's small comfort to the people they terrorized.

The whole business of armed insurgents taking over the town reminded me of Gyp Rosetti taking over Tabor Heights.
