Rio Olympics

Indictments have been issued. Not sure what the process is now I'm assuming some sort of plea deal. No way is Lochte stupid enough to go back to Rio

Changing his story multiple times already. What an idiot.

Lochte backtracked on his initial comments to the network made Sunday, saying the barrel of the gun he had said was placed to his forehead was instead pointed in his direction. He also said the taxi wasn't pulled over but that the swimmers were robbed after making a stop at a gas station.

I still don't understand why they would lie or make up a story in the first place. Why say anything at all? No one would have known about it if they hadn't brought it up themselves.

because it sounded good at the time?

@Paleocon (and LeapingGnome)

Generally speaking, we tell outlandish and unsustainable lies because - for the person we are lying to - the truth would be far worse.

Given that the first source for the story appears to be Ryan's mother, it would seem reasonable to assume that she called him and he'd didn't want to tell her what he'd really been up to that night.

EDIT: What holed him below the waterline was the fact that she went public. Immediately, he had to file a police report. And that's where it all unravelled...

The lessons here? Always 'fess up, no matter how unflattering the light it paints you in. Never lie to the police. Always assume that you are CCTV.

Alternately, he could have told his mom "just getting in. Nothing happened". You know. Like a normal person would.

The guy who is really screwed here is James Feigan, who, after the fact, corroborated Lochte's account out of a misguided sense of loyalty to someone who is highly likely to toss him under the bus. At least Conger and Bentz has the good sense to cut their losses when they did.

Exactly. "Just got back, had a late night out with friends" or whatever. He didn't have to make up this whole story, I just don't understand why he would do that when there was absolutely no reason to, it is like asking for trouble.

Occam's Razor: Ryan Lochte is not the brightest of people.

There is an official apology from him out but it still says there was a gun involved.

"He was holding a gun in his hand.
Umm, I was thinking... this is a dangerous place"

Spoiler:

There's going to be one King Crimson fan out there who is going to like this.

I have spent way too much time watching Jessie Fleming's through ball that led to Christine Sinclair's goal this afternoon. What a tournament she had.

It's exciting that it was the under-23 players more or less carrying the Canadian women to their best ever tournament. It's still going to be a fun team to watch as the old core ages out.

Team GB finish 2nd in the medals table, above China and become the first nation ever to do better at the Olympics straight after a home Olympics. Our methods with lottery funding maybe brutal but boy do they deliever.

Shame it is nearly over, it has been fun two weeks.
Most medals to the danish team ever, except for 1948, which is not very comparable. Disappointingly few gold medals though, the least since 1992. Well, unless the Handball team makes a crazy surprise within the next hour.

Lets have Olympic Games every year so we can ruin more cities!

Holy... that was insane. Denmark beating France in Men's Handball, for some sort of reference it is probably comparable to if Serbia beat US in Basketball.

...I think the opening ceremonies in Tokyo will be must see TV.

I bet it will be must see on your VR headset in 3d as you stand in the middle of the stadium and walk around.

Indeed, I'm looking forward to this.

I love Tokyo will be embracing Japan's modern culture.
