The Squad - Catch All

Anyone else checking this out?

I just got into the Alpha and it's a lot of fun. Reminds me a lot of the old Delta Force games with more chain of command. If it's not out on Steam Greenlight it will be soon.

That looks pretty fun, I'll have to look into it.

Got my key last night.

Played all morning on an 80-man server in Europe. High ping wasn't too bad, I got some kills.

I like what I've seen of the meta-game of FOB placement and reinforcement. In my last game I was an accidental squad leader, so I got to learn how to do that, though I was never able to place a FOB (it was always too close to an existing radio).

The combat is excellent - there's enough terrain that seeing people feels like it should (which means you really can't see sh*t most of the time), and the sound of incoming and outgoing fire is spot-on.

That sounds fun. I played DF competitively, because it was one of the few games that had a decent system for cover and spotting. Enjoyed the heck out of that and the matches were awesome.

Only way to get into Closed Alpha is to pre purchase the 2nd tier $70.00 game?

Right now yea... the Steam option should be any time now though.

Early access is out today! I'll be picking this up when I get home Thursday.

Just had an awesome experience in this game.
Playing with randos.
That blows my freaking mind.

People take the game serious for the most part and lot of people dont suffer fools well and will kick them out of their squad if they act that way.

Was speaking with Demeaner last night about how fun it would be to get some goojers together for this. Perhaps a team up during the long weekend?

So much potential it isn't funny...

I learned this; I am a terrible soldier. I can't see anything to save my life, literally.

But... being a medic in this game has been so rewarding it's insane. Everyone tries to protect you and you never have to fire a shot.

Timing be touch and go but set a time this weekend and i'll try to be on.

You guys do Curse now or still use Vent?

Ranalin, it's best to just use the in-game chat, it's based on Mumble and is very high quality, and allows the squad leader to communicate with other SL's and lets you use local chat. Would just need to all join the same server/side and make a GWJ squad.

This game is either incredibly fun or incredibly dull, and it's entirely based on the quality of your squad leader and team chat. If the SL doesn't communicate and come up with a plan or goes off on his own then you just feel useless. On the other hand I had an entire game where I killed no-one but we were stalking through bushes, engaging with the enemy and generally playing tactically and it was a ton of fun because the SL was great. The feeling of being under fire is awesome in Squad, you really feel like you're fighting for your life, especially if there's no rally point and the nearest FOB is miles away, because you REALLY don't want to hike back to your location. Also makes medics really useful because they can bring people back from incapacitated and save tickets/respawns.

I also love the way medics have to bandage people before they can heal them with the medic kit, really nice touch that makes it much more of a process than something like BF. Really looking forward to them adding dragging so you can send non-medics to pull downed team-mates out of dangerous areas for revival.

I meant for hooking up... i know the in game is used for coordination. I've been playing this for quite awhile before it made it to Steam.

I bought this and then was disappointed to learn that they're adding vehicles at some point.

There'll probably still be infantry only servers, one would hope. I would be up for playing this weekend. Should we make a steam group for it? They never seem to get used.

Resurrecting an old thread...anyone still playing this? Sure would be fun with GWJ people.

i have it but not logged in forever. just too many other games

The struggle is real.

Vehicles coming in the next patch. I have been watching some of the streamers who were granted access to the testing servers.

Personally, I haven't played this in ages.

Edit: Alpha Version 7 was just released to public...vehicles are now a thing.

I wonder if this was the reason so many servers were empty yesterday afternoon? Looks like I'll be on today, checking out vehicles.

Played this a bit with Fogrob over the free weekend and liked it enough to pick it up while it's on sale for $20.
The quality of the experience definitely depends on your team, squad and squad leader.
Had a great round where our SL moved us systematically through objectives and kept spawn points close enough that you could take a few risks. He was in touch with other SLs, so we had a coordinated attack that was challenging but ultimately we dominated the entire map over a less organized enemy team.
Then another round where our SL wasn't communicating with the other SLs and didn't really have a plan. That, as you can imagine, ended poorly - and was more frustrating.
This feels like a nice blend between Battlefield, which can get a bit too run-n-gun, and ARMA, which can be too slow at times. I agree it'd be great with a group of GWJ folks all on one squad.

Messing around in the training area when I discovered a new form of clay pigeon shooting.

Edit : and again...

Seems like this happens if the new vehicle tries to spawn partially inside the destroyed one.

Would like to start playing this again. Ya'll interested?

I've not fired this up in forever. If we could pin down a night and get a bunch of us it would be fun.

I'm still spending an exorbitant amount of time with PUBG.

I've put in a few sessions over the past week or so. Some of the bigger streamers I follow have been hitting this hard, specifically on Desmos Playerground. I've had pretty good experiences on his server, but the attention has made his server super popular. I've seen queue's to get in larger 60. He has another server coming.

I'm definitely down to play some more.

Cool, that might be a good place for us to meet up.

Desmo just got his second server up. I have family visiting this weekend, showing up just after I finish finals this week. I'll probably be on late evenings through the weekend, and then I'll have a bit more free time throughout next week.

Bah! I'm only in town for the weekend.
