Arma 3 Catch All

Tried joining...nope. Are we gearing up for Apex? I pre-ordered.

I'm definitely ordering it, but I'm waiting for it to come to Steam because the exchange rate is so poor. Also, I'm kind of afraid Tanoa isn't going to run well on my system with all those trees. I definitely need a RAM upgrade and an SSD.

Maximum PC did an article this week that shows the performance boost from putting Arma on an SSD is negligible.

Not saying that you shouldn't get one, but all the other components are likely significantly more important than the storage.

I think I applied as well.

That's interesting, thanks!

I would still get an SSD to run the OS off of, because not having one is like going back to churning butter by hand. I don't feel the need to run my games off of SSDs (I have before, it makes a bit of difference in loading time, but that's about it), but no way in hell will you get me to use a system running the OS off a spinning disk again.

Apex DLC is 20% off on Steam.

Unsung has been out for a bit.

Anyone played with it?

Haven't given it a shot yet. I've put some time into the WWII mod with a KOTH variant the past few days.

Any chance we can get a weekly game going again?

Seems like we're waiting for Apex for that, whenever that will be.

July 11.

Interesting test on RAM speed and ARMA 3 performance.

Based on these tests and some ones in a BI forum linked to in the comments, RAM clock speed seems to impact ARMA performance far more so than it typically would other games (which probably isn't surprising given most other games are GPU limited, but it's the degree of difference it makes in ARMA that is the surprise).

I'm replacing some guts in my system so that I can overclock my 3570K, and I'm going to swap out my DDR3 1333 RAM for some DDR3 2400 RAM (and upgrade to 16 GB while I'm at it) to try and help performance in ARMA games and other compute-heavy sims.

Apex is out and I have nobody to play with. Maybe Thursday night?

I'm out for Thursday nights until classes finish up in 4 weeks. I've spent a fair amount of time on Tanoa this past week, in the Exile mod, and in Breaking Point. I'm really liking the setting. The jungles are claustrophobic, and there are also ample amounts of open areas, and high exposed rock perches for sniping. Good stuff.

I was just getting back into arma and picked up the expansion - going to try to hop on tonight. I will logon to the Curse server to see if anyone is around.

So with Apex what's the newest PVP mod that's not survival based?

Oh man...isn't that all there is? Breaking Point, Exile, and Battle Royale I have played on Tanoa, thus far. Fighting in the jungle really gives a different feel to Battle Royale, I like it.

I haven't checked to see of KotH is on Tanoa yet, but I believe Wasteland is. As far as pick up and go style PVP goes...although Wasteland may fall in the survival based side of things.

Any interest in making a group effort on a Tanoa Exile server. Build a base for all participating?

I dunno, but I am just so sick of survival games.

Wasteland has verrrry little "survival" - there is food and water, but it's plentiful, and of very little concern.

I loved Wasteland for the "pick up and go" of it. It's easy to gear up, and you can get in the action pretty damn fast.

I love survival games, but I am sick of ARMA multiplayer being nothing but survival and sh*tty RPG mods.

Has anyone tried coop on the campaign? I would be interested in grouping up

No, but I would love too. I did play them solo and they were very good missions.

The server has been updated and I did a quick test yesterday with Xeknos. You'll need to have the latest Community Based Addon [v3.0.0] loaded, which you can do through the built-in ARMA launcher easy enough. We also decided to abandon the NATO/Spetsnaz mod, at least initially. You may get some missing file/object errors if you access the older loadout crates, but the middle Arsenal crate works fine.
The server still defaults to our custom Multiplayer Altis mission, but we're working on creating a mission file for the new Tanoa map and will get that loaded up as soon as possible.
Tanoa has a lot of potential for new missions, even if it is a smaller map than Altis. Several small islands which could be nice for water approaches [assuming using dive gear doesn't fill your inventory with watches when you die...still].

I joined the unit and installed the CBA v3 - Is there anything else I need? I should be around this evening (Wednesday). Do you guys use Curse for voice communication?

CBA is the only required mod. Everything else is optional. I try to keep this page updated as best I can.

We have a Teamspeak server. PM me for that password. We typically use TS, but I've been experimenting with Curse and have been happy with the quality and features. I have a Curse server set up. PM me for an invite link to that as well if you like.
I'd like to get a regular ARMA thing going again, but my work schedule hasn't been very conducive to gaming lately. The server is always up, though, and if you have MCC installed you can build up missions on the fly.

I highly recommend setting up a Steam Workshop collection which everyone else could subscribe to with a single click.

I've been getting the urge to get back into ARMA, and now I'm kicking myself for not picking up Apex when it was -20% (was still $35 then).

I'll definitely look into that. We ended up rolling back to an older version of MCC since the development went in a direction that wasn't really helpful to what we needed and it was causing problems. But, for CBA and the handful of other minor mods we use it would be nice. That's for the tip!

I was able to jump on the server (thanks masher) to make sure that there were no conflicts with mods. I only had 2 installed CBA and an enhanced movement one. Had to disable the enhanced movement mod and then I was able to join. I spent a little time setting up everything but it was pretty easy. Now I have to learn what Zeus is
