General VR Catch-All

I can't imagine not having the room space VR that the vive provides. It just adds so much to the immersion level of things. Teleporting to where you want to go is a requirement at this point. It'll be interesting to see what alternatives they come up with.

Just broke into the top 1000 in Longbow with a wave 37 defeat. Man that game is tiring but every once in a while you get in an amazing zone where you just can't miss. That feels good.

I love that. Holopoint gets me in that zone sometimes too where you achieve real flow and you feel like such a badass.

I know I could get further if my shoulder didnt get so tired. I should just take a 10 minute rest at wave 32. I might like Holopoint, but the idea of defending a castle is so much more intriguing. I'd love a deeper experience, just not aware of anything upcoming.

Other than HoloPoint and Longbow, there's Bowslinger, which is ok, has good physics but needs work on the content department. Have I missed anything?

I definitely need to check out DolphinVR, I've seen quite a few videos demonstrating Metroid Prime and it looks amazing.

In the meantime I'm completely addicted to The Lab's Longbow game. I can only go a bit above wave 32, but it's still endlessly compelling to me. That and Xortex have occupied a good amount of my time on the Vive these past couple days. Still working my way through Job Simulator 2050, which has been a blast. And I need to boot up Fantastic Contraption and give that a spin.

Any recommendations for first game purchases on the Vive?

Metroid Prime is cool but it definitely made me motion sick, if you're susceptible to that kind of thing.

Fantastic Contrapion is fantastic. I still play it regularly.

Definitely try Vanishing Realms, the Budget Cuts Demo (my favorite) and Space Pirate Trainer. If you don't mind the lack of content but want to try a very polished early access game, I'm a big fan of Cosmic Trip and can't wait for the full game to be released. If you like dogfighting House of the Dying Sun is one of the best games out right now.

I'd say Holopoint because it's really fun but the bow feels so different than Longbow that it might be really hard for you to get into it.

WHat controls are you using for House of the Dying Sun. I couldnt seem to get anything to work. I just gave up and put it to the later when it works pile.

I think there's a beta version of HOTDS that puts in joystick options. I'm waiting till the weekend hoping for a steam sale

At first I was playing with a 360 controller and it worked perfectly right out of the gate. Then I got a T-16000M and it took me about five minutes to set up the buttons to my liking. You really don't need a throttle for this game IMO since you're generally going to be going full blast or drifting and you don't have to land or do any tricky maneuvering like that, but that' just me.

Big showing for VR stuff in both the Steam sale and on the Oculus store.

Im not sure if there's a way to see the oculus stuff on the web, so I can't provide a link, but it looks like a flat 30% off many things. PinballFxVR was one I was hoping for, not on the list sadly. Chronos is down to $40 though. Technolust is $15 (US here)

Steam seems to be highlighting select VR games for everyone, or maybe its detecting that I have a headset so its customizing a bit for me.

http://store.steampowered.com/search...

Edit: A few Steam Sale highlights:
Tabletop Simulator is $9.99 which is half off. They just added VR support but its VERY rudimentary. All the DLC looks like its 30% off.
Im tempted to grab Vanishing Realms what with the glowing reviews here and elsewhere.

Edit 2, unrelated to sales:
If you havent checked out FOO and you have a VR headset. Check it out now. Its free and its an experiment in a sort of VR talk show. Its really interesting.

Vanishing realms is fun. About maybe 2hrs start to finish but worth it.

I figured this information was rather useful to pass along, so I present a list of all the VR games in the Summer Steam Sale (Vive & Oculus both). Happy Saving!

Ugh I really don't want to give Oculus any money but I also realllly want to play Chronos.

I might finally grab Hover Junkers at that price...

I've really been enjoying chronos. I know some people haven't been down with the "camera on a stick" model of third person games, but it lets me play that game without any hint of discomfort. Something like Edge of nowhere, with it's behind the back camera, still gives me a bit of nausea as I'm playing. Also, in chronos I get to hit stuff with swords and magic. I'm into that...

Well there you go....

I think they just want some goodwill at this point.

Yeah I was surprised they Lucky's Tale doesn't bother me at all since I get nauseous pretty easily. I hope Edge of Nowhere is the same.

Its also a Sisyphean struggle . They can choose to try and fight it with every release or they can choose not to and commit those resources to something else.

Nice job Oculus. I'll buy from your store now.

Finally got my Rift working. The older Asus 3.0 usb controllers in my mobo weren't compatible with Oculus, so I had to order a pcie USB card from amazon.

I picked up Chronus and Project Cars from the summer sale. I'm looking for some suggestions on another purchase.

Has anyone played the battle dome, for Vive? It's been getting some pretty good love on reddit?

A couple of others I'm considering are: HordeZ, BlazeRush, and Windlands.

For Project Cars I picked it now since it is 50% off and I want to try it in VR, but I think I'll wait until I can pick up a wheel. How playable is it with a controller (and VR)?

I'm holding off until an official Valve release comes to fruition. They hired on the developers of Battle Dome a la Counter Strike, TF2, Left 4 Dead, Portal, DOTA 2. I might still kick in and give it a try, sounds really fun!

It does sound fun but it looks like it plays (and looks) so janky based on the videos I've watched. I'll personally hold off.

For other recommendations, grab BlazeRush. Dont think about it, just do it
The Climb is not on sale but consider it anyway. I bought it full price and immensely enjoyed it. I still come back pretty frequently.

Cool, I picked up BlazeRush... for only $4.99 how can I not.

I picked up Albino Lullaby Episode 1 off steam.
I had the chance to play a non VR demo of it a while ago, and really liked it, looking forward to playing it in VR.

Edit: If you're thinking of buying a VR game, make sure you check both the Oculus Store and Steam. The prices are not necessarily the same on both platforms.

Battle Dome on Vive looks so simple and pedestrian but actually playing it is massive amounts of fun. Think Splatoon mixed with paint ball. You can wall within your usual bounds, but you can only teleport onto spaces that have been painted with your team's color (using the paint gun, of course).

Just a brilliant use of the limitations of VR for an actual gameplay motivation. Highly recommended.

Thanks for that list of VR games on sale. that did make things much easier.

I do have a Steam question though. I noticed that when installing some games and experiences, they're automatically put into a VR section at the bottom of my library. Others are just put in my general library list. As a result, I missed a few compatible games in my library. Any idea why all VR supported titles don't appear in the VR section? it would make managing content much easier.

I've been having a lot of fun exploring VR games and experiences over the weekend though. FOO VR is indeed cool, and I can't wait for them to release regular content. Apollo 11 was also a great idea of how to do an interactive VR documentary.

I think that it's dependent on "official" support.
For example, Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator both support VR, but not officially, so they don't appear in the VR compatable games section.

I don't have any proof for that, though.

Just played my first round of Battle Dome last night, and it's amazing. The graphics are crude but it's surprisingly close to replicating the paintball experience, right down to how sore my legs are this morning. It's news to me that the dev has joined Valve, I'm looking forward to the polish they can put on the game!

It looks like they've found a way to force a higher image quality for the Vive, if your graphics card can handle it. Editing a config file enables you to increase the supersampling from the default (1.4 is the speculation).

http://www.roadtovr.com/how-to-impro...

Initial feedback I've read on Reddit, people say it really improves the graphic quality in Elite Dangerous, especially for those people with new 1080 cards that can handle a big increase 2.0 or better.

Oculus Rift available on Amazon right now with Prime shipping: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Rift/d... sold out

Also available on BestBuy right now: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/oculus-r...

yeah, this bugs pre-order folks. The Oculus site has support for those who want to pick one up and transition their pre-order to their retail purchase (meaning they still get the pre order bonus of Eve Valkyrie)

Interesting. Will try this tonight. Elite dangerous already has a way to up the super sampling to 2 in video options though. Wonder how this is different

Makes a difference!!! In elite dangerous you'll need to turn the in game super sampling down so you're essentially doing it twice.

I've got a TitanX and I was able to set it at 2.4 and then back down the in game SS to it's lowest option. BIG difference, especially when I enabled SMAA.

I may have found the first VR game capable of making me sick.
E:D is fine, Eve is fine, Lucky's tale is fine...
But Albino Lullaby... after 10 minutes I'm getting very warm (despite sitting in a highly ACed room) and my stomach doesn't quite feel right.
I think I'll play it safe and return it. Shame too.
