NFL 2016: Offseason: OTAs / Dead Zone / Gumbie Loves Kickers!

Breshad Perriman partially tears his ACL. No, not a joke.

That sucks for him. The team, however, seems to have planned for that contingency.

That dynasty pick is not working out for me...

I'll assume he's been traded to the Jaguars.

In what is very sad news, CBS is dumping Mike Carey. He was always so entertainingly terrible.

I pine for the days where I can read new posts in the NFL thread multiple times a day vice once a week or so

Dead period. The seriously dead period.

Speaking of that, here's what you can do.

Have faith!

Perriman was examined by Dr. James Andrews on Monday and underwent an arthroscopic procedure on Tuesday that revealed that he did not need reconstructive surgery. Instead, he received a stem-cell injection in the joint Tuesday, and the injury will be allowed to heal on its own.

Supposedly he'll be fine come the start to the season.

Blaine Gabbert tops another list!

Spoiler:

Worst Seasons in Passing Plus-Minus (2006-2015)

Interesting tidbit about Teddy Bridgewater:

Teddy Bridgewater is likely to be a focal point in several of our quarterback studies this year. He did not fare well in Expected Failed Completions, looking like one of the league's more dink-and-dunk passers. But when it comes to plus-minus, Bridgewater has been quite good, ranking 15th as a rookie and fifth this year. Even on passes thrown 10-plus yards, Bridgewater still ranked 10th in plus-minus (+5.2) in 2015. While Bortles and Derek Carr each threw more touchdowns in 2015 than Bridgewater has in two seasons, the gap in passing efficiency is definitely in Bridgewater's favor. When we get around to looking at performance with pass pressure in 2015, you may be even more impressed by Bridgewater.

Darren McFadden didn't even wait for the season to start to get injured this year.

Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden had surgery on a broken right elbow on Tuesday that could keep him out of the Sept. 11 season opener against the New York Giants.

Coach Jason Garrett said the injury happened over Memorial Day weekend at McFadden's house. McFadden fell on the elbow trying not to drop his cell phone, Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown told the Dallas Morning News.

Nothing describes Darren McFadden's career better than "injured himself holding a phone".

Dude needs to get on the practice field, though. He needs reps.

But yeah, that's a lot better news than having a partial tear that would have required surgery.

Fixed.

So apropos of mostly nothing in this thread, I've been watching ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series O.J.: Made In America and I discovered something in the second episode I don't recall hearing before until today:

Spoiler:

...Nicole Brown after she divorced O.J. was apparently involved with Marcus Allen. Something he denied in deposition video aired during the show, but something people closest to her confirmed in interviews during the show.

It's a very eye opening series; one I encourage everyone to watch.

Well, she certainly had a type: Heisman-winning USC running backs.

She would have been cougar age when Reggie Bush won his Heisman.

Shame her ex husband was a murderous asshole.

I'll have to check that series out. I love the 30 for 30s, though I usually watch them when they hit Netflix.

Daaaaayyyyyyyuuuuummmm

Fletcher Cox got paid. And here the Broncos thought they were smart to pull their offer to Von Miller. Dude's gonna come back and get even more money now.

What's up with the quote marks? No need.

Carson Wentz's Twitter wrote:

Wentz was saved by a kicker, which proves once again that every damn thing in this thread will be about kickers.

Frak. Ravens cut Eugene Monroe. Guess his contract coupled with his marijuana advocacy means he's a free man now. Stanley better be amazing this year. I was expecting Monroe to hang around half the season before an injury. Guess the Ravens have plans for that extra $6 mil they have now.

He'll be a New York Giant before the week is over. Unless another team jumps in there with interest now that it won't cost a draft pick to get him.

Micahel Oher will be sticking around in Carolina for a few more years. Hopefully he won't revert to his false starting ways. Wonder if it was a philosophical difference between him and the Ravens or what.

Here's the latest Browns report from our local peeps:

The Browns didn't bring in Robert Griffin III to be a backup. But he needs a lot of work, learning to pass from the pocket and on the run in Jackson's offense. He has had some nice moments, such as Thursday's 40-yard pass into the corner of the end zone to Terrelle Pryor. Other times, he has missed wide open receivers.

That's bad to hear since RG3 has been in the league how long? Ugh.

Isaiah Crowell is getting a lot of looks, which includes in the passing game.

Danny Shelton has dropped 30 pounds, a lot of which he gained during last season. If I was on last season's Browns team I too would've been eating my way out of depression. Anyway, it's a good thing because he may not be the bust he seemed to be last year. If he can keep the weight off.

Speaking of busts, Justin Gilbert is still on the team and apparently actually trying. Barkevious Mingo has bulked up, but I have a feeling his career might be over. He's athletic and looks good now, but come game time he'll disappear like he's done his entire career so far.

One of the great tragedies of recent seasons is how forgettable Barkevious Mingo has been, because it's just so much fun to say "Barkevious Mingo".

Barkeeeeeeeevious Minggggoooooooo.

Yes, but was it a mortar kick? Cause, I hear those are really special

Not surprised to hear the RG3 reports. RG3 just doesn't strike me as a guy who feels like he needs to work on his craft.

Meanwhile, PFF wrote up a love letter to Derek Carr (you know, the guy the Browns drafted Johnny Manziel over), including this GIF of "one of the best throws of the season from anybody":

It makes my Bulldog spirit swell, down in my toes to stay.

And yet I keep seeing Carr way down the list for some tertiary stats. And here. Those are just two article I dug up at FO, but other places haven't been too in love with him. Dunno.

He may be rising, but I'm not quite seeing him in the top 10 that PFF sorta has him.

Cam Newton and Carson Palmer being next-to-last and dead-last on the EFC list, while Foles, Tyrod Taylor, and my boy Ryan Mallett all ranked in the top 10, makes me question the value of the statistic as a measure of quarterbacks.

That expected failure rate article should be about how they dropped a 2 somewhere in their calculations.

I'd take the expected numbers much more seriously if they weren't around 50% of the actual for any given rank. You can talk projections when your expectations are in the ballpark of reality. These really aren't, and saying "Defenses are better than we thought" is a cop-out.

Those pictures are worth the read.
