City-building Game Catch All

The Mims is out of early access today too. Haven't had the pleasure yet.

You need to get your eyes checked. This looks more like a mobile game than something resembling Caesar III, Pharaoh, or Zeus. Just looking at all the screenshots clearly shows that the only "city" size is a 5x5 grid.

So then, a SimCity 2013 version of an Impressions city builder.

Hey super team.
I've been tempted to get an Anno game. Would you recommend any of them ?
I like the look of 1404, and I suppose that 2205 is the latest ?
Mucho gracias compredes

Go with 2070 or 1404. The newest one is a departure from the series and feels a little soul-less. The earler ones are vastly more complex, detailed, and satisfying. 2070 has more to offer, but both are excellent games. Go with whichever period appeals to you more.

+1 for starting with 1404. If you get it, I would recommend buying from GOG, because the Steam version includes the Tages DRM (3 machine activation limit).

1404 (a.k.a. Dawn of Discovery) is a strong choice. Though I really enjoyed 2205 too.

I'd consider getting The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom instead

Another vote for 1404. I put many hours into it, much more than 1701 or 2070. I haven't played 2205 yet.

If I wasn't over my gaming budget I'd snag it.

Romo...opolis you say?

Yet another vote for 1404 / Dawn of Discovery if you haven't already purchased! Especially if you like the theme, it is such a blast and a relaxing diversion. Just feels so nice I think I need to play it again just thinking about it!

If you like Anno 1404 I also recommend Banished, for a smaller-scale, more intimate, but still very good take on the genre (all agent based though, so it adds in more pathing and adjacency concerns.)

The Tropico games are also similar and quite good, but with more combat than I remember in the Anno series.

Clockwork Empires hit "beta" status earlier this week. Devs are also saying they expect the full release is "months" away.

For those interested, Caesar IV is now available on GOG.

So I loaded up Zeus again, and man that game has aged. I had fond memories of the title, and it is very contemplative and Zenlike, but it's hard to go back to those old Impressions titles.

Also, I tried Dawn of Discovery and it just didn't stick with me.

I would love it if Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom was available, but that game is hardcopy only at the moment.

I've logged more hours in Pharaoh then any other game. I still go back and play it for a few hours every couple of years but it is getting increasingly difficult to deal with the GUI and frustrating pathfinding.

But, man, is it satisfying to watch those pyramids rise slowly (and I mean SLOWLY from the ground).

Yeah, never played Zeus, but Pharaoh is simply awesome. Still holds up today for the most part, even if a modern version would be great.

The annoying pathfinding is pretty much what the game is about. Cant remove that

I'll point out that if you want a pyramid-builder with a slightly more modern interface and better pathfinding, Children of the Nile is out there.

Missed this news the other day. This is great news for me as I've stayed away during the beta. Totes excited to eventually play this!

Thanks for the recommendation. I've actaully tried CoN and while the pathfinding is indeed better, I can't get over the outdated 3d graphics. In my opinion, Pharaoh has held up so much better graphically despite being such an older game.

Klei (Don't Starve, Shank, Invisible Inc.) is taking a crack at the Bullfrog-style management sim genre:

Anything by Klei gets me very excited. You missed the superb Mark of the Ninja from their honours list.

I saw the video yesterday, and I'm also looking forward to seeing more of Oxygen Not Included.

Truth. MotN is my favorite Klei game to date.

Yes! I saw this the other day but couldn't think of where to put it on the forums. Perfect thread!

Looks promising!

There's a Let's Play series of it that I've been following - does look a bit similar to the Anno 2070/2205 games though.

Kind of reminds me of Planetbase, but looks a little more involved. Planetbase is fun, but pretty simple.
