The Last Guardian Catch-All

Yeah, that's interesting.

This is a pretty positive article on Polygon. I give it about 50/50 odds of coming out in 2016 vs 2017. The important thing is that it really does seem like it's finally going to get released.

Yeah, I'm a bit skeptical at 2016 myself. But hey, at least it's not dead!

I found this in case anyone else wants to see the demo shown in 1080p: http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_th...

Even if it is reusing PS3 assets, I still think it looks gorgeous. The art and animations (for both the boy and the creature) in particular really stand out.

It's pretty dang cool they're projecting a giant AI controlled Trico at TGS.

That's awesome.

You know what would be cooler? A release date. Or a playable floor demo. [/cynic]

You're not the only one thinking it, Clock.

I'd settle for a picture of the development team's building.

Or the development team.

You guys think there's a development team. That's adorable.

I'd even settle for a picture of the PO box for the dev team's holding company.

At least they're acknowledging their vaporware. Unlike Valve. Though... with Valve, nerd-rage can be directed at creating gaben gifs.

You all are negative downers.

Starting to get some media coverage. I think this may actually happen this year!

IGN First walks through the first 45 minutes.

**Warning** Game beginning spoilers!

I'm tempted to watch so that I can manage my expectations. Hmmm... decisions.

I need to replay the first two before this comes out.

I will continue to keep my expectations low and not watch that video. I think that's the safe play here.

I watched it. Based on what I know of your tastes and interests, I think you'll be quite pleased.

It's very much a Team Ico game. Everything that was wonderful in the other two games appears to still be here in full force. (And full disclosure: it looks like a lot of what I didn't like is still around, too.)

That's enough to keep me from watching it. How was the PS2 style control and camera jank? I hope the camera and control end up being like modern games. I'm worried the game will look like a PS4 game but play like a PS2 game.

Tagging this.

That's my biggest concern with it based on what I saw. It's an absolutely beautiful game. Trico itself is an instantly relatable and memorable character. But the camera acceleration was off and felt unpolished, and the boy's movements still had a strange bouncy weightlessness to them. It reminded me strongly of Ico and Nier. (And eventually some developer is going to figure out that objects in the environment like barrels and boxes shouldn't bounce around like playground balls whenever people nudge them, right?)

I'm going to go into this pretending that I'm playing some fancypants PS4 remaster of a PS2 game. I think it'll be better that way.

I sure hope so, but I'll believe it when it happens. I'm going to continue to not look at any coverage until I can play it myself. Good or bad, I just have to know at this point.

Yeah, I think I'll do the same. I'm 100% in on buying it just out of support for releasing the damn thing instead of canning it. At the least, it'll be fascinating to see how it fails and do a little armchair developing on what would have made it work or work better.

I think there will be a point in the game somewhere where you reach a nice vista and you can just sit and relax with Trico and take the world in. If they have that moment, it'll be worth the $60 and the extremely long wait to me.

I'm much more interested in a unique vision, palpable heart and passion and a game as far off the beaten path as this seems to be backed by a big company and real talent than I am about any technological quibbles. I'll probably buy a few copies just to support them.

I hope we don't have to kill beautiful creatures... I never did get past the third Colossus.

Well, there you have it. Release date: October 25.

It's showing up on the PS Store in the categories, but the actual product page isn't there yet for preordering.
