Castle Catch All.

Well that was a long hiatus. Welcome back.

Ooh another former Firefly guest star.

I hope that means she shows up as a recurring guest!

That was totally Seth Green as the voice right?

That's who it sounded like to me.

It sounded like Aubrey Plaza in the beginning as well.

Yes to both.

Well I'm totally bummed and shocked that Stana Katic (Beckett) will not be back for Season 9. A caste shake-up and cost cutting. To me, the whole show is about the interaction of Beckett and Castle. Unbelievable!

Castle hasn't been renewed for season 9, and with the way the show has gone this season, I am ready for it to be over. With Katic and Jones exiting after this season, I'm fine with that.

Yeah it's been a good run. Hopefully they are still working on the finale and can mold it onto a series end. Wrap up this locksat thing and have her find out she's pregnant in the final. Call it a day.

From what I've read, they have already filmed two alternate ending scenes depending on the renewal decision.

Seems good. Film one last movie or something if you have to, to provide closure. Definitely don't try to dump Beckett and then just continue on as-is.

Another ignoble end for a Nathan Fillion series. WTH?

Maybe he'll find another niche SF program. A role in The Expanse might be good. I hope he chooses well.

I thought this week's episode was a really well-executed, old school Castle episode. Like, pre-jumping the shark quality. Some genuine chills, too. Loved it.

But the whole idea of continuing without Beckett? Horrible idea. Now, if they had pulled it off, I'd be the first one to praise them to the moon. But the current team didn't even seem able to iterate on a well-established formula while keeping the quality up.

As I said on the TV thread, I just hope the season finale is a good final episode. It should be, given that they knew it might not get renewed.

Yeah I'm glad it's ending really. It lost its way as a show a long time ago.

Yeah saw interview where they said they filmed an alternate ending to the finale as a series ender just in case. Guess that's what will be airing Mon night.

Better to know ahead of time and be able to do that rather than leave fans hanging.

I have eight episodes sitting on my DVR. I might not make it to the end. It was definitely time, in my opinion.

Ignoble would be struggling on without Beckett.

How many seasons would it need to not be ignoble? Seems like it lasted if not long enough, longer than it should have.

I wouldn't think this an ignoble end for the show. I mean, it had 8 seasons which is impressive in today's TV environment. Plus, honestly I think most fans kind of want it to end, especially with Beckett leaving.

I do agree that I would like his next project to see the return of badass Nathan Fillion rather than the "playing the fool" role that he has had in Castle.

So glad this show got the axe now, instead of a slow drawn out death. Here's hoping for a good finale.

I agree, but it still needs to utilize his humor as well, imho - as seen in Firefly, despite Joss's original intention (seen more in Serenity) to have him be a grim burnout. That's one of those happy accidents where the art ends up way better than what the artist planned.

I actually tweeted at Fillion today, as did former bigtime GWJer Russ Pitts. I told him that we loved him on Firefly, followed him to Castle, and are hoping he makes a great choice for his next project.

Happen to remember where you saw that? I'd be very curious. Man, my anticipation for next Monday is kind of through the roof right now. Definitely the most I've anticipated Castle in a long time.

People.

How the finale ends, however, all depends on whether Castle gets renewed. "If we hear that we're not coming back, we have shot something that we can put at the end of the episode as a way to put a button on everything," Hawley said. "Obviously that would be a bad thing because it would mean no more. We did it in order to try to protect the fans, because you can't end the series on a cliffhanger." Added fellow EP and co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter: "The hope is that it never sees the light of day."

Either way, longtime Castle fans will get some closure – which also allows the producers to start a potential ninth season with a clean Katic-less slate. (Tamala Jones will also exit.) "There will be no more loose ends at the end of the season," Winter said. "Everything will be answered; all mysteries from previous years will be wrapped up."

Nice cameo there.

Spoiler:

Major Dad to the rescue.

Wow that was an abrupt change at the end. Happy ending tag.

Probably better that it got some ending now rather than going with that cliffhanger they set up with the episode.

Well, I've seen better endings and I've seen worse. So long, and thanks for a mostly entertaining and sometimes touching eight years!

Wow, what a disappointment.

Spoiler:

They said they shot two endings, but I don't think adding the 30-second "Harry Potter" ending to what was obviously intended to be a dying-on-the-floor cliffhanger counts as an alternate ending.

Still, I guess it's better than nothing. The show was a fun ride, most of the time.

Yeah with the way the ending went, I'm actually really happy they got canceled. That cliffhanger would have been ridiculous. Cancellation forced them to have at least some type of epilogue, rushed though it was.

Oh my god so much exposition! And that was their solution in case they got cancelled? UGH! Terrible! I would have been OK without the twist, and the ridiculous add on 20 seconds!

Oh well glad it's over.
