Doom Catch-All of Doom

Aren't all game people on YouTube cynical brits?

"20 minutes of unrepentant gushing". And how!

It feels proper to pick this up on the PC but the inability for those "can I run it" websites to accurately gauge my laptops graphics card is a bit annoying. Higher model numbers is better still, yeah? My GeForce 960M should work if they're asking for a 770-Ti?

The 960M is slightly faster than the GTX 750Ti Desktop card. Like... 5 to 10% or so.

I wouldn't be surprised if you can get it running ok but I dunno what kind of visual sacrifices you might have to make to get it going smoothly.

I'd love to hear some initial impressions for those playing the campaign. Thinking of picking this up on PS4.

I've got an Asus ROG laptop with a 960M. I didn't get into tweaking the display settings too much but the default High settings ran great for me during the multiplayer beta a month ago. Looked fantastic, no noticeable frame hiccups, and if I remember right I was clocking 55+ FPS without getting into the nut & bolts of the settings.

Also, don't forget you have Steam Refunds available if it's not up to your expectations.

Man I'm hearing all kinds of good things about the single player that I really don't want to hear, I can't afford another game this month!

I was so tempted to pre-order, but the fact that I'm leaving for a weeks vacation in the morning and that I've got a GTX 660 Ti which looks to be barely under their min specs has got me holding off until I get back.

I look forward to seeing people's impressions of the game and how it plays on lower range cards when I get back from Florida.

I have a GTX650 and it runs pretty well if I turn down a bunch of stuff and lower the resolution.

Also, chainsaw kills are SICK!

Allow me.

SP won't change between now and a month or three from now. One can afford to wait.

Mp is a whole different bag.

+1.

And who cares about MP anyway when there are pink demons to chainsaw?

True. Not really interested in the multiplayer on this one.

WOW! So I bought this on the Xbox One and played it this morning for an hour before work....It is a straight homage to the original, (no reloading, quick pacing, frantic battles with lots of dodging!) After the kids go to bed I'll be back on, but man...this makes me feel like a 10 year old all over again!

Had some Best Buy reward certificates so this ended up costing me $23 out of pocket. Loved the Doom 3 remaster and Rage in 360 so I figure this'll probably be my jam.

Ooo, good intel, thank you. We may very well have the same laptop or just be like one model number off, heh. I'm interested but since I only want SP and SnapMap I could stand to wait for a price drop. The $80 in canadian bucks for new games is getting tougher to swallow.

I totally forgot about the Doom 3 release on 360. I love that game.

If anyone's having performance issues and hasn't installed the latest nVidia drivers yet that came with optimizations for this game, definitely do that. On my 770 the game was basically unplayable - I got about 30-35 fps, settings didn't even seem to matter that much, even on low it didn't go higher. The drivers straight up doubled that, it almost never drops below 60 on medium now.

Super tempted by this but with Overwatch and Uncharted 4 also on the horizon, I'm holding off. What are the non-SP modes like?

Hmm, it kinda runs no so great on my GTX 470. Guess I'll just have to pick up a 1080 in a couple weeks

When is that coming out? I'm planning on getting a GTX970, but I will be kicking myself if I spend $300 on it only to find it got reduced to $150 after the next gen came out.

The 1080 is end of this month and the 1070 at $379 is I think second week of June.

The 1070 should be better than 980Ti performance for that price.

I'm looking to upgrade for less than $200. I've made it this far with a 650, so I reckon a 970 or 980 will do me just fine for the next couple of years, especially since I'm not playing VR games and have less than no interest in 4K.

Played through the first two levels, I guess you'd call them. It's fun! But it isn't much like Doom 3. I guess people that liked Doom 1 and 2 (which I never played) didn't like 3, so this is the result.

My only complaint is I'm finding the enemy design to be a bit uninspired so far.

edit: played one match of the multiplayer and really liked that too. The Giantbomb folks said the MP beta was bad, so is that just their nostalgia talking, did the game change, or am I wrong and it's bad?

Can I get a recommendation on this it looks like a lot of fun but something is keeping me from pulling the trigger on buying it.

It's a solid, no-nonsense shooter. Controls are comfortable and solid, the game is focused on action, not horror so it's fast-paced. If you're looking for the more methodical, survival-horror approach from 3, you won't find it. This is much closer to the old-school of Doom 1, 2, and Quake.

I'm having a lot of fun with it so far.

Guru has a good deal on a 970 in the trade thread, if you can stretch to $200

You aren't going to do better than this for $200 right now, just FYI.

I don't think you'll do better than that after the new card launches either to be honest. I'd expect the 970 to drop into maybe the $250 range on the low end.

I'm running this on a 980Ti and oh man is this game ever gorgeous in a really nightmarish way. Buttery smooth, and with the helpful start-up options that RPS listed turning off the mandatory mouse smoothing, this looks and moves like the DOOM that my teenage self dreamed about. It's also refreshing to have a simple, back-to-basics shooter that is dusting off those old twitch skills. Haven't touched the MP yet, but my initial impressions of the SP is that it's super solid.

30-35fps is unplayable? I must be getting old.

Rented and played the XBone version, it's pretty decent so far. Can't say if I would think it's worth 60 bucks, guess that depends on how long the SP campaign is. Like others I really have no interest at all in multi.
